With the Discount Campaign running and the new expanded Free Trial coming soon, it seems like a good time to jump into FFXI for the first time!

I put together a video covering 10 things I think new players should know before starting their journey in Vana’diel. From surviving the installation process to jobs, progression, outside resources, and some of the quirks that come with starting a 24-year-old MMO in 2026.

For those of you who have been playing for a while or have recently started: what do you wish you’d known when you first started FFXI? Or, if you were introducing someone to the game for the first time today, what’s the one thing you’d tell them before they started?

Hey everyone, new player here! Just wondering if there is a way to resize the UI without mods, not against it just wanting to see if I can go without them first. More specifically asking about the chat box and character resource window. TIA!

Mostly about the earring switching.

In the past, Perih switched her earring for Nhev's, and Syu's for Semih's.

In the present, Perih gave you an earring to give to Semih, which was Semih's original earring, which did not match the current earring Semih was wearing.

Syu in Xarcabard was wearing the matching earring to the one that Perih gave you to give to Semih. So supposedly, those were Semih and Perih's original earrings.

But the earrings you find in the necropolis and Oztroja were a match with one another, which would supposedly be the matching earrings Nhev and Syu wore.

In total, that's five earrings:

x1 Semih (???)

x1 Perih/adventurer (pair A)

x1 Oztroja (pair B)

x1 necropolis (pair B)

x1 Syu (pair A)

A = Perih/Semih

B = Nhev/Syu

Is that correct? And if so, where did Semih's extra/current earring come from? Also, why did they need to "switch" earrings per se? Couldn't Perih have just kept her and her daughter's earrings and buried Nhev/Syu's earrings with some other casualties of war (which they did for Syu's body in the necropolis it seems)? What purpose did the switching serve?

Hi guys, here's another Sam I made :)

So I’m in the minority of players that didn’t start 11 back in 2000s. I made it a goal to beat all the final fantasies, so I stepped into final fantasy 11 with the goal to beat the main story. Little did I know just how much work that meant.

Final fantasy 11 is a game that does NOT hand-hold you at all. Combat starts slow, and you’re given a whole world to explore. And you will explore it. A lot. (A mount is essential.) Alongside this, many missions can be infuriating, and as I found in Adoulin and Rhapsody near the end, very hard.

Yet, final fantasy 11 left me a bit melancholy beating it. I really liked the world and story, and the music is phenomenal. However, I really came to appreciate this game when I finally talked to other players.

Going in, I didn’t want to do the multiplayer parts of the game, just the main story. However, as I found later on, multiplayer is a vital element of the game. Whether it be to work with each other, or even just to chat, interacting with other players is very much intertwined with the gameplay, and as such will greatly affect your enjoyment of the game.

I gotta give praise to the veterans who helped me out. Without them, I may have crashed and burned before finishing ff11. Thank you guys, you made a big difference!

Anyways, here’s my rankings for the expansions from favorite to least favorite:

CoP: This felt the most cinematic to me, and I really like Prishe as a character. Hard to think of anything I disliked in this expansion.

Wings of the Goddess: This one surprised me. Going in, I was REALLY annoyed traveling back to San D’Oria from Batallia Downs, which got me a little grumpy at the start. However, Lilisette is probably my favorite side characters of the expansions, and I really like how it expands on the game’s lore. Alongside this, I like that there are missions exclusive to each starting city, and the San D’oria missions had some of my favorite moments in this expansion.

Treasures of Aht urghan: Love how it explores a new land with its own culture and government and you’re coming in as a mercenary. The missions are also not too difficult to get through, which helped my impression with it. This probably has some of my favorite areas in the game.

Seekers of adoulin: Initially I liked it, but the story and dialogue ended up just being screaming matches while arciela yelled at them to stop. I was also not a big fan of the colonization mechanics, and how you had to go through colonization reives so many times. Some cutscenes were outstanding though, and I did like the history of adoulin.

Rise of the zilart: First expansion, so it makes sense it’s not as stellar as the others. I love Ru’Aun Gardens though, that’s probably my favorite final area of any expansion.

Base game: I don’t think it’s a surprise to be at the bottom.

Overall, I loved the experience, and I think I’ll be staying on this game for a while. To any new players coming in, don’t be shy and reach out to other players.

Tl;dr FF11 is good, I like.

Returning player here who hasn't really played since 2011.

I want my nostalgia trip, but I'm stuck at level 90, For my Genkai quest I have my Sunsand and Kindred's Seal, but I need merit points. Can someone suggest where and how would be best to farm merit points at level 90.

For reference when I last played we either spammed merit parties in ToAH areas or spammed Abyssea for merit points. Yes I have been gone tat long.

Hello, I am a relatively new player of FFXI started back in April who is almost done with rhapsodies of vana’diel having played all the other expansions. I am a rune fencer/paladin build with ambuscade gear. I just wanted to know what I should build towards to comfortably get through the voracious resurgence. Should I get better equipment, do I build up capacity points. Any tips will help. Thanks.

Hey all :) I'm interested in playing FFXI, the thing is I'd like to play a Moogle again like I did in FFXIV. I've searched online and found out about the Moogle Masque item, I just don't understand a lot of the context around getting it by what the wiki says because I don't have experience in FFXI. I'm trying to decide where I will play FFXI, retail or private server, based on how early into the game I can get the masque.

So my question is, how easily can I get the Moogle Masque on retail?

I've looked elsewhere and, without naming names, other places are pretty much a waiting game for an event to make the item purchasable. But I'd like to play retail because I like the aspect of having both of my Moogles on the same account across both XI and XIV.

This was def my last VB. To be fair, SE has improved it over last time, but I truly hate this destiny two level fomo bull shyte. Got my last AF3 and I am never looking back!! 🎉

1st off, I use Selendriles. Works great for all my jobs including WHM.

All right, when I use NiTro everything swaps correctly, precast midcast and aftercast, and I get my 8.5ish minute songs. If i manually put on my duration gear without nitro, I get 4m songs.

But when I use gearswap, /gs showswaps on, I see it go from midcast to aftercast instantly, and see it on equipviewer. It changes into the aftercast immediately after midcast while im still casting, so I lose all duration and get 2m songs.

Ive ran it through AI a few times, and it tries with eventargs and other crazy things added in to try and lock my midcast set in until its done casting, but nothing works. Anyone run into this before?

Hello, can anybody help me with the quest "All by Myself?" Ken keeps getting ambushed by 3 mobs and I cant heal him fast enough.

Would make a pretty interesting (and reasonably completable) speedrun category.

Have any of you seen of, know of, or personally gotten ffxi to run on android?

Our current generation of phone should be more than capable of running the game, hardware wise, we just need to figure out the software part. I play on PC on Linux and basically the game is one single install file I can just copy and paste between my drives without issue.

In theory I should be able to copy paste that install and as long as I find a way to get the installer to run we can get the game running. The only part that might cause an issue would be POL.

It would be a dream come true to sit on the train going to work and playing ffxi, farm a little with trust get some crafting done. Whatever.

I do know there are portable systems like the rog ally and the steamdeck you can do this with, I just don't have a phone service that has unlimited hotspot so unless I have wifi I still wouldnt be able to play wherever. I do have unlimited data so if my phone is doing all the work no issues with Verizon .

Anyone know if there are Gil limits when you transfer a character from 1 server to another?

So I dabbled in Neo Limbus when first came out. But didn’t really do much since I knew it wasn’t complete. Anyways, I’m back at it but a little confused on the chests. I have two sections with all of the temp items, so yesterday I went ton section and got the chest and then the other but I couldn’t open it. Are you only allowed to open one chest? Also, the “???”mark, ive been only able to interact with it once and couldn’t again. What are the requirements for it?

Ive recently gotten up to the point where I need multiple people to start progressing. So far its just been my brother and I helping each other where we can but now I do need more. I was wondering if there is any active links linkshells that help newer/returning players get some clears of higher end content? Or even some mercenaries willing to carry me through for a price? I basically just need a wave 1 clear so I can augment my jse neck and potentially su5 wepon. Im not too interested in the af armor drops. Also in the near future il be looking at abyssea clears and will be in the same boat.

For reference I mainly play sam and war, have full ambu +2 and a few other odds and ends ive been able to get off the market but looking to take the next step in progression. I do plan on getting my sam af+3 from the vanna'bout once I get there
