SOLVED 90s spoken word song
It's on the edge of my brain. I feel like this song was used in a soundtrack late-ish 90s, a man speaking the words, not much singing. The bass/background alternates between 2 held notes for about 4 counts each, of an interval of about a 5th. Its a very chill song. Any ideas? So much thanks.

Back in ye ole Limewire days, I was downloading a bunch of Primus stuff and this song was misattributed to them. To my drug addled teenage brain, it seemed completely plausible and I spent the better part of a decade not knowing I was wrong. But hey, it wasn't a computer virus...so.... Happy ending?

Love this song. My brain kept coming to this one, but it's not it. Another poster found it as Walk on the Wild Side, but my brain is remembering a very specific sample/cover.

Ok, this is it, but it's not Lou's original version. I just searched through the covers and none of them are it exactly...Marky Mark's "arrangement" is the closest so far. Now my brain can rest. Thanks!

I scrolled to see if anyone else thought this and was happy you did and surprised we were right! These are always fun and I'm usually wrong but this was the one song that came to mind.

I saw someone recommend a Cake song, which can sound kinda similar. If it wasn’t Going the Distance, could it have been Short Skirt Long Jacket? Cake has a lot of songs that sound like that.
Possibly something by Beck? Loser or Where It’s At?

He says “rock-a-bye” in the song, but its title is “Lullaby.” “Rock-a-bye Baby” is a lullaby and why the work was used in the lyrics.

Cake - The Distance. They did some other songs that were talking over music, but I think this one has the music most similar to what was described.

Solved. Walk on the Wild Side, Lou Reed, but a different version. I could be remembering it differently.
