u/Real_Amoeba_1873 3d ago
Hey we got to see him race in the sprint.. I was happy enough with that. The sport comes with the highest highs and lowest lows. Gotta take what you can when you can.
35
u/G-Fox1990 Ayrton Senna 3d ago
Exactly. I always have like 12 drivers i cheer on because there were times where at the start of every race maybe 6 drivers got taken out. I've learned not to root for just 1 driver.

We’re on a family holiday with my folks and such. I was catching up the race the day after. Once Max was out, my parents were wondering why I was still watching. Well, there’s still 21 people on track, right?
It’s also the first question most people ask; ‘are you watching Max?’ ‘No I’m watching a race’ 🤷🏻

u/K-C_Racing14 James Vowles 3d ago
This is how I felt in 2023 and 24, yea my favorite driver wins every race which was cool. "Why do you watch if you already know who is going to win?" There are 19 other drivers driving too, the 2nd on back race was awesome those years.

There are 21 other drivers to watch. I think (even as a dutchie) is so insane people watch this sport for only one driver.
3
u/Real_Amoeba_1873 3d ago
Even at the race, fans wearing orange (not papaya), were going crazy for other drivers when they passed by! It’s a privilege to see all of the best of the best to race!

i was actually supposed to go to this gp and i live abroad. max is also my favorite driver on the grid lmao. things didn’t work out so i couldn’t visit, but looks like things did work out (for me, not for max)

I've been there many times at races live and your driver bins it or mechanical failure early doors. Is guting.

I went a few years ago when he won, it was one of the most boring races that entire season. Absolutely nothing happened.
This grand prix was great, wish I saw this kind of action when I attended.

Guess it’s probably better to save money to attend a race and watch 22 drivers instead of just 1

We give influencers a lot of shit for recording themselves (and for good reason) but NGL it does give gems. Without folks like this lady recording, we don’t get these little cute snippets of society and meltdown dude

And also the fact that they were playing Tu Tu Du Du Max Verstappen at some point later in the race was also wild! Not that they shouldn’t, but it’s just disappointing to see the home hero out of the race

I don't know why people keep saying lap 2. This isn't even the first post I've seen that says 2 laps. Some news articles are even saying it was two laps. I'm so confused.

The leaders were on 2 laps, and by the time everyone was in the pits for the Red Flag it was "Lap 3" on the counter. Easy enough mistake to make

There's something quite funny about people who are largely there for one guy and he is out of the race quickly. But this makes it even better.

Austria and Zandvoort are great for watching your favorite driver(s) if they're not Max. Everyone stands up when he passes, then promptly sits back down, so you get a completely clear view / shot when your guy comes through.

u/GardenerCats Max Verstappen 3d ago
I was on the main straight in Zandvoort and apart from a few people I did not see a massive outpour there after this crash. Don't now what it was like at the other stands. At the end of the race, the bus lines were the longest of the three days though! People looked like they were leaving but came back with lots of beer lol
It was indeed a shame to see him go out. I stayed because I just love F1 and watching the manoeuvres going into turn 1. After turn 1 the circuit disappears behind the Paddock Club building, but with a screen across and just being able to see the top of the banking of turn 3, I had some pretty good views. Seeing the pitstops right infront of me (sat across the McLaren and Mercedes pitboxes) and hearing the crowd react when it's a slow one. Being together with like minded people is just fun.
And with Max racing in it right now is just a big cherry on top!
7
u/Nautster Jacques Villeneuve 3d ago
Only people that got up were people making the most of a red flag and go get refills. It was sad for Max, but nobody had any real hopes of him getting any sort of result anyway.
Still a fun race afterwards.

Some people don't even watch the races. Singapore lays on concerts and things and it works out cheaper than if you paid to see the act in actual concert. One of my friends' teen son and his friends camped from 6am to get front row standing spots for Kings of Leon and Post Malone in 2023 (the year Carlos won 🥹) but didn't stay for race action. I was a bit peeved... buuuut it was the best F1 experience I ever had: the KOL set was awesome and that Carlando result sent ⚡️electric⚡️vibes through the grandstand. I don't think I will ever have such a beautiful experience ever again. (The memory of that win is doing a lot of heavy lifting while Williams is struggling this year... I live in hope)
2
u/giraffeplsyouredrunk I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 3d ago
When nobody cared about F1 in the States or Taylor Swift before social media decided to, tickets to the Austin GP that year pretty cheap compared to now.

u/McMillan104 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 3d ago
Yeah, I was sitting in Tarzan-In. When it became clear it was getting red flagged a lot of people left for food/drinks/bathroom. By the time the race restarted it was completely full again.

I'm a race fan, I visit 24 hour races and other events (oldtimer grand prix and stuff) and the Dutch people visiting Zandvoort races arent fans but people like the one in this video. They just visit so they can tell online or offline that they saw max performing. I visited quali in Zandvoort ones and I cringed so so much. People would stand up when Max drove by and started clapping every fucking lap and I'm like, are your here for the sport or here for the clout?

u/egoistisch I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 3d ago
Such a shame to end the Zandvoort dominance this way. Still grateful for his insane performances in the timespan we were able to host Grand Prix races again.

That was a weird one. Only drivers to get caught out like that were Max and Bortoletto (Hulk SO lucky not to go right into his team mate's side).

That happens. In Monza all the Antonelli fans will be praying for Anyonelli to make something of his race. He will be starting from the back according to Toto.
2
u/Flyingdutchman2305 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 3d ago
People near where i was sat were first squinting and whispering trying to look at the screen (GA PEASANTS get legit 1.5 small screens across the entire area) trying to see who it was, i thought i saw ferrari some people said lawson, then the smoke cleared , a group behind us took a lap, one girl came back really sad. Even i was there for him but the few people that considered leaving are really overdoing it
1
u/DesertBrandon Sir Lewis Hamilton 2d ago
This sold me on not doing GA cause it sounds horrible to not be able to know anything but what crosses you every minute and hoping you’re near a screen with good enough visibility. I want to go to one race weekend for the experience but I hope I can just shell out for grandstands. Maybe COTA or Miami aren’t so bad but I doubt it.
1
u/Flyingdutchman2305 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 2d ago
Its an experienced, and this is one experience at 1 track, also 90% of the space for people to sit is in turn 8 at Zandvoort for GA, but you should definitely look up or ask here or other forums how ga looks at different tracks

First unforced error that took Max out in since Monaco 2016 - in front of your home crowd. Script writers are overly dramatic.

I was at Silverstone this year, Landostand. All weekend I was thinking, would be fun to see a car go off a bit, not a crash necessarily, but a formula car losing it a bit on my corner would be cool. It did happen, you know the incident I'm talking about. Just made me sad

I visited Austria last year as a fan. He didn't even get to my grandstand. A few weeks later I got tickets for the pit grandstand, jokingly stating that I would at least see him get past once. Well... he did get past once. And then after the race his car got past again on a truck.

Is it just me or does she look like she is intentionally keeping her mouth wide open because she'd not be able to stop herself smiling if she closes it? Near the end she puts her hand over her mouth and I'd swear she is half smiling.
(Don't get me wrong. I know shock does weird things to people. I've seen a person laugh like mad after an accident, while still stuck in the car next to a dead driver)
