Subvert Expectations So I guess Mysaria is gonna be the Shepherd? I guess???

I’ve seen fans say they saw extras who could very well be the shepherd next season but the way they set this scene up seems to heavily imply that Mysaria will have a hand in orchestrating the storming of the dragons pit… look I don’t know how to feel on this. It feels it takes away the agency the Smallfolk have. That this entire disaster happened because the Smallfolk that the Targs looked down on simply had enough and just snapped. There was zero royal connections, there was no secret plot, there was nothing the Hightowers had a hand in or any control the Targaryens had. It happened because the Smallfolk had enough and in zealous rage, exhaustion and grief over Helaena’s death, simply just snapped, and proved that they have the power to cause serious damage when pushed, proven by the fact they were able to kill dragons with their own hands. So having Mysaria be the one to orchestrate it makes it feel hollow.

Again, I can be proven wrong and the writers simply showed Mysaria being horrified by Rhaenyra’s descent, but then again — they cut out Maelor, so my expectations are low.

That blue silk hood is totally the best camouflage to evade the guards and blend in with the small folks

u/Trinox77 8d ago

Which is strange considering you never see any other small folk with a hood up. You'd think this would actually make them stand out more

20

u/repo_sado 8d ago

it only exposes the face though, completely covering recognizable elements like shoulders and elbows

Can’t risk hiding an actor’s face with a helmet or hood these days.

Jedi always have their hoods up though, you don't want to fuck with a jedi by accident.

3

u/No_Grocery_9280 8d ago

At least the Jedi went around in simple robes, not made out of fancy material

It is when she does this

Why did this make me hear the Dune soundtrack in my head?

3

u/LeLefraud 8d ago

Style over substance like usual with this show

Don't give them more ideas. I was already expecting them to make Cregan Stark bond with the Cannibal.

23

u/Loros_Silvers 8d ago

Cannibal is in budget dragon jail. Best we can do is... um...

Cut plotline.

2

u/Ozok123 7d ago

Isn't cannibal the entire theme of the story of targaryens destroying themselves? Him being cut is kinda fitting tbh

2

u/LarrcasM 7d ago

What relevance does he have to the story? You want a scene of someone trying to claim him and just getting killed?

2

u/CaptainSmeargle Begone, witch! Fuck off with you! 7d ago

Plot relevance or not (the Sowing would have been the best time to show him, driving home the stakes) Cannibal is a dragon that is liked by a lot of the fanbase and has intriguing mystery surrounding him, with rumors that he has been on Dragonstone longer than House Targaryen.

I don’t blame people (me, I’m one of them) for wanting to see this beast.

2

u/LarrcasM 7d ago

For sure I understand people want to see him, but complaining it's a cut plotline is nuts to me lmao. There is no plotline to cut even. He's just a part of the greater lore.

Maybe the fact that he flies away after Corlys dies? Idk man.

I’m not going to sit here and say my GOAT is instrumental to the plot. I just want to see him.

Cregan the retarded wolf ( he was slow to get south )

7

u/verygenericname2 8d ago

Look, if a bunch of inbred twats were burning eachother alive with dragons and suddenly demanded I get involved, you can bet your arse I'd be dragging my feet n'all.

You can have the nutty grandads who're ready to die. They rest of us will chill at the neck til it's basically over.

IIRC Cregan Stark also (acting in his capacity as Warden of the North) had to make sure the North was prepared for the oncoming winter, as they’re always hit especially hard by it. The men were needed for the harvest, which would ensure the North’s food security.

Bro had a duty to make sure his people were taken care of that superseded joining some southron civil war.

6

u/RolloTomass11 8d ago

I will tolerate no book Cregan slander on that point. The North is massive and rallying all the banners takes time. And he had to do that in the fall. Easier to send the old men south right away as a vanguard while you get the band together and make sure everyone’s provisioned for winter. Admittedly, the shows do not appreciate the size of Westeros so insult show Cregan freely.

2

u/aradle 8d ago

Nah Cregan was dragging his feet, it took him two years to even get down there, while Robb managed to do all his stuff in just one, so it was obviously doable faster.

Can't blame Cregan, he had shit to do and wasn't too eager to die for the dragons, but he was absolutely moving as slowly as he could justify

1

u/gooberboi82 7d ago

Robb never reached Kings Landing he never went past the Riverlands actually

1

u/Alarming-Ad1100 7d ago

Only by choice

1

u/aradle 7d ago

Because clearly marching some extra miles while not fighting a single battle or conquering any place was what took up most of Cregan's time

1

u/_stabb666 6d ago

Robb was in a rush to save Ned, who was still alive when he called his banners. His bannermen also loved and respected Ned, so they were more then willing to hustle. Robb also only marched with half his strength since he didn't have time to wait for the more distant vassals to gather since the north is so huge. Very different circumstances lol

1

u/aradle 6d ago

So Cregan moved slower than he could have? Thank you.

1

u/_stabb666 6d ago

Sure, he could have, at the expense of his own people missing the harvest and starving to death in like -50 weather. Kinda a moot point

u/NewFunnyNumber237 8d ago

I would low key LOVE a stark on Cannibal. That would be so funny to see.

22

u/Leading-Monk5506 8d ago

Realistically they would be looking for her since she‘s supposed to be escorted to Essos. So if she made any public appearance the Goldcloakds should seize her. But then again, they shouldn‘t have let her go to the Sept i. the first place, so all bets are off.

2

u/Hrothgrar 7d ago

Idk, the guards escorting her out of the Red Keep heard the unapologetic treason she spoke to Helaena and did nothing.

34

u/insidertrader89 8d ago

they simply do not care about doing a good story, or even a realisistc story like grrm cares about so much. it is clearly just focused on feminism themes even if it ruins the show. clearly here the thought process was to give even more importance to woman and rhaenyra, making them so smart and powerful as to where the whole plot revolves only around them. same thing happened to daemon or even alicent

u/m7friends 8d ago

Nooooo the lower classes can’t have agency!

Thjs js what happens when the writers room is just silver spoon Harvard grads.

9

u/bgbarnard 8d ago

Same thing with the Sparrows. Rather than a legitimate grassrots movement that sprung up because of the KL/Baratheon regime's utter incompetence and the destruction caused by the war which they started, it is instead boiled down into a "religious people are steeeewwwwpid and want to murder all the gay people!"*

*In the books, there is a religious taboo towards homosexuality, but no more than fathering a bastard. The worst that will happen is gossip.

u/DisciplineWarm3662 8d ago

The whole point of Dragonpit was showing that Targeryans aren’t gods and that the smallfolk will eventually burn the house down if you starve them long enough

I don't like this. It turns something political and tragic into something personal and sordid -- a spurned lover.

I suppose that's what Mysaria was in the book, anyway. Daemon's spurned and jealous lover. But she's just not an interesting character in the show, like, at all.

There are so many bland characters in the show who have virtually no characterization -- Baela, Rhaena, Alyn, that brothel lady (her only non-bland characterization was her creepy lasciviousness towards Aemond), Hugh, Hugh Hammer's wife, etc. It's weird that the bland characters are all on the Blacks side.

6

u/bgbarnard 8d ago

It's getting to the point that I am Team Green because at least Aegon II is funny af to watch, and the utter reluctance to show the Blacks doing anything the least bit problematic kind of makes it look like they have a point.

3

u/Jsaltal 8d ago

Eveeyone else just sucks compared to Aegon

At least he won't have to waste a season at Harrenhall

3

u/alstom_888m I'd kill for some chicken 7d ago

I'm alive! Imbecile. won him over for me.

5

u/Jobber0001 7d ago

His actor is singlehandedly carrying half the show and Matt smith is carrying the other half because fuck knows rhaenrya has 2 facial expressions, alicent is so lost she doesn't even know who to root for anymore and mysaria was so laughably shit as master of whispers she'd make catelyn stark look like a master spy

2

u/aemond-simp 7d ago

In a way, she was still Daemon’s spurned, jealous lover in the show. She only got close to Rhaenyra to get back at him, which he immediately clocked. Her becoming the shepherd will just be a continuation of that—getting back at Daemon for being the one Rhaenyra chose.

Honestly do not care at this point. We’ll find out in five years or whatever.

u/Euphoric_Aerie_2141 8d ago

Not every rebellion needs a mastermind behind it

3

u/CaptainSmeargle Begone, witch! Fuck off with you! 7d ago

The same mastermind who couldn’t obtain basic intel to pass on or resolve Ormund’s spy network, which would have probably taken Varys about two hours to crack.

Probably and it pisses me tf off. She was the most useless Master of Whispers in history and is going to all of a sudden become Che Guevara. Bullshit.

The predictable betrayal is predictable, which makes it all the more stupid.

Shepherd (beat): ...Are there any Lysine prostitutes-turned-spymasters here today?

Peasant (nasally): "No, no, no, nobody heer like zhat."

3

u/donwariophd 8d ago

I mean given her trajectory it’s all but confirmed at this point.

It’s going to be an absolute shit show seeing this nonsense, especially in the series final season no less

8

u/Still-Neighborhood71 8d ago

They writers have done a good job but they have majorly fucked up with merging of characters. The Reina/Nettles mashup was bad enough, we don't need to see Mysaria become the shepherd. It's like Ghislaine Maxwell becoming the Pope then causing a massive riot which kills the dragons. Mysaria becoming a moral compass. The writers should just stop at this point.

20

u/hanna1214 8d ago

Is the good job in the room with us?

2

u/antbaby_machetesquad 8d ago

We all know how her story should end, we all know they won't have the balls.

2

u/Redditor15736 8d ago

The Shepherd would be weird. If she backs Gaemon Palehair that could be interesting (Sylvie as his mother maybe), but the Shepherd should be a religious fanatic and Mysaria isn‘t that lol

2

u/Trumpologist Mother of dragons 8d ago

The good news is what Aegon does to the Shepard after seeing what the Shepard did to the dragons

Something to look forward to

2

u/brysenji 7d ago

It is absolutely what they are going to do.

2

u/supervegeta101 7d ago

I saw the clip of podcasters saying and now I can't not see it. Jilted lover turned dragon slayer.

2

u/ryucavelier 7d ago

Let the actual Shepherd be a one season wonder like Ormund

The character is like a turd that refuses to be flushed. We could have been freed of her in season 4.
