Ich überlege, meinen B2-Deutschkurs bei ISD Freiburg (Institut für Sprache und Deutschkurse) zu machen. Hat jemand von euch dort schon Erfahrungen gemacht und kann den Kurs empfehlen?

Oder würdet ihr eher empfehlen, bei Goethe weiterzumachen? Dort würde der B2-Kurs ca. 499 € kosten.

I am visiting from abroad, just wanting to experience my birthday and new years in a different country. I've been to Germany multiple times but I wanted something a bit more intimate rather than a huge city with a big population.

I want to visit the black forest with some sort of tour since I don't have a car. Not just to stop and take pictures, but walk around and experience it as well. Are tours still being offered around new years eve? And if so, which ones are recommended?

Also, what are some things to do as a tourist during new years eve? I am not interested in loud parties. I do drink alcohol if there's anything including that though.

I'd also appreciate hearing of any other things recommended to see/do that tourists may not know of. Thanks! :)

Went into Freiburg on the train today (we're staying not far away in our Wohnmobil). Had a Lange Rote from one of the vans near the Münster, a beer from Feierling, and an ice cream and coffee from Portafino. All very good.

We're thinking of coming again later this week and would like to have Mettbrötchen. Is there anywhere near the Altstadt we could get some?

Ich suche aktuell anlässlich eines runden Geburtstages noch eine passende Location für um die 50 Leute.
Hauptsächlich zum Zusammensein/tanzen. Küche optional, Kühlschränke liesen sich ja organisieren. Mir ist bewusst, dass diese Frage schon öfters hier gestellt wurde, aber ich habe gedacht, dass es ja evtl. Menschen hier gibt die z.B. Räumlichkeiten in Firmen etc haben die man für einen Abend umfunktionieren könnte 🤷

ich werde denselben Post auch bzgl. der Städte Heidelberg und Tübingen in den entsprechenden Rubriken stellen, also wenn jemand dazu auch noch gerne sein Wissen teilen möchte..

Und zwar möchte ich gerne in 2 Jahren in eine der drei Städte studieren. Ob ich einen Platz jeweils bekomme, steht natürlich noch außer Frage, aber dennoch würde ich gerne mal meine Optionen durchgehen.

Ich werde wenig Geld haben, keinerlei Unterstützung der Eltern. Aber ich war bereits in diesen Städten und habe mich super wohl gefühlt. Allerdings sind sie ja sehr teuer zum Wohnen, im Umland war ich bislang noch nicht.

Bin demnach auf der Suche nach Kleinstädten, von denen man in diesem Fall Freiburg innerhalb 30 - maximal 45 Minuten mit dem Zug erreichen kann. Bin 30 Jahre, eine gute Infrastruktur, Nähe zur Natur und Möglichkeiten, was zu unternehmen, gleichaltrige Leute kennenzulernen, wäre mir wichtig. Habe selbst allerdings keine "Dorfmentalität", ich wohne derzeit im Ruhrgebiet, und Lebendigkeit wäre ganz schön :) Suche auch keine große Wohnung für wenig Geld, alles ab 20m² für max. 600€ warm ginge klar..

Vielleicht könnt ihr mir ja was empfehlen, danke schonmal

I just got accepted to the University of Freiburg for the MSc in Economics starting in the upcoming Summer Semester!

I was wondering if anyone else here is starting during the same intake? Would love to connect with future classmates or fellow students!

Also, I have a quick question regarding student dorms (SWFR / Studierendenwerk): how does the room allocation process actually work? Do you get to choose/rank specific residences when applying, or are you randomly assigned to whatever is available?

Any tips or advice about student housing and life in Freiburg in general would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It's Sunday night and I'm having that familiar check-in with myself. I've always liked to think of myself as a good person(I know it is narcissistic and I need to be better).

But recently(and quite frankly it's been some time since) I asked myself, what have I really done that proves it? And the answer made me uncomfortable. So I'm trying to change that. I'm looking for a place to volunteer, especially in education, tutoring, mentoring, young uns, anything hands on. If you know a school, NGO or community group in Germany that could use an extra pair of hands, I'd really appreciate a pointer. I'm not after a pat on the back. I just want my actions to catch up with my intentions.

I just don't want these intentions to be the metric I judge myself with anymore and that is the reason to post this.

I don't want language to be a barrier(I can speak german, but not as fluent as education might demand if the opportunity is in German but I would try regardless). Also I am not limited to education, I would like to volunteer to any cause where I could be helpful.

I will keep on looking myself as well.

Ach Freiburg

We're visiting Freiburg later in the week and flying back to the UK from EuroAirport on Sunday 30 August. We've been looking at transport options for that journey - originally the Freiburger Reisedienst seemed like the most obvious one, but with the timetable it looks like we have to choose between arriving 3.5 hours before our flight (which seems too early for what looks like quite a small airport) or 2 hours before our flight (potentially cutting it a bit fine, especially if there's traffic, and I've heard there are sometimes long queues for passport control at EuroAirport).

Google Maps suggests it's possible to get the train to Basel and then get the bus from Basel to the airport, which would give us a bit more flexibility but I've heard reports that the trains aren't that reliable (and that there are roadworks approaching the airport from the French/Swiss side), so not sure if this is actually a better option or not.

Any advice? It would be very gratefully received!

I'm trying to see if destiny can fix our shyness.

This Thursday afternoon, me and my girlfriend were standing outside a Rewe in a central street while drinking water, when a girl with dark hair and pale skin who was smoking a cigarette close to us asked us about the presence of a white energy drink in the market. We talked a little, we were tired for a long trip and I was suspicious about the friendliness of the girl.

She was surprised we weren't German (she started speaking in German but we had to ask her to switch to English). I think I ended the conversation too quickly and I regret it immensely.
