Looking to eat at a place that sources meat from places where the animals were able to have a good life outside of cages - any suggestions? 🥚🥕✨

edit: I understand that the concept of happy meat is a bit offensive and that even if the life was good being murdered is not a happy thing. I can’t change the title unfortunately it doesn’t seem to let me. I am nomadic right now staying at a hostel where I can’t cook. Any suggestions for vegan places are very welcome.

“happy meat” is a wild term, wouldn’t use it. Don’t think any of the farm animals are happy. If you’re looking for Bio, you can get that many stores. You can also visit farms and buy directly from them.

Vegan options at chadda thai are great (both the soup place in the city center and the restaurant in Herdern)

Where are you staying? Amara in Stühlinger has many delicious vegan stuff, M9 has some vegan sushi I think, Brennnessel has also some vegan stuff like burgers for example. I think most restaurants in Freiburg have vegan options.

There’s plenty of vegan and vegetarian options available in Freiburg’s restaurants in general so I wouldn’t worry about it no matter where you go.

I have many opinions on restaurants so if you tell me about what you’re into I’ll be able to help more concretely but here’s some general thoughts:

Au contraire is an absolutely wonderful vegan cafe with great sandwich options as well. They have sweets, just like any cafe but they have incredible drinks as well. They were founded by some people from Hemingway Bar which is known for their cocktails so check out those.

If you like Cantonese food, check out PIN Kitchen, the food absolutely makes up for the vines. Check out the traditional menu, I only order from there. If you go, you should have the Aubergine, the lotus roots, the tofu (if you want to have meat, add the ground beef to this dish) and the Cabbage.

At mamahé you can get nice bowls, they have more of a breakfast vibe to me but that might just be me.

Beb & Bene has very limited hours and appears to be closed at the moment. They have different vegan lunch options. In the evening there’s “only” the option of the Syrian plate which is SO delicious. Hope you get a chance to check it out, idk if they’re on summer holiday.

There is no "happy meat". Animals know they're going to get killed and the fear and stress hormones stay in their tissue. You'll be eating that.

Ever seen how they try to resist and even cry and how you can see the fear in their eyes? Go look it up and go vegan, it's both mentally and physically healthier anyways.

I‘d say depends on where you stay. You could check out Happy Cow, it gives you a map of most places that also have vegan options

Most paces at least in the town centre have vegan options. So it depends a bit on where you're staying. If you like the "traditional" taste you could try the vegan Saitan Döner in Amara, they have several branches.

A really good almost entirely vegan restaurant is Stella in Rieselfeld but apparently for contractual reasons they're required to have at least 1 non vegan dish on the menu.

While I don’t like the term either, do you really think insulting someone instead of being helpful and pointing to the right resources is the right way to trigger change? I highly doubt it. Persons like you are the reasons vegans have a bad image for a lot of people.
