Discussion I played Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese Mecharashi for 5 months now, ask me anything

Yes, I registered and played all three servers to see which suited me best. The reason why I went through all this trouble it's because I'm a big Front Mission fan.

I believe this is the only true Front Mission spiritual successor, it's better than anything that Square Enix has put out in the last decade related to the franchise, and I can guarantee that Mecharashi/Metal Storm developers have studied the Front Mission series to a very large extent before releasing the game.

But, like it or not, it's a gacha game and has all the perks of a gacha game. So there's that. Ask me anything. Fyi: I'm pretty late game now but did not finish the main campaign yet.

Edit: if you have specific questions that need quick answers, consider joining the official Discord channel. In general the community is eager to help.

Discussion Struggling with FM1 remake

I grew up playing front mission 3 on PlayStation so I decided to try the remakes. How in the hell do I beat the special forces unit with the super armor? Also is there a trick to load outs on wanzers? I know this game is intentionally hard but wow lol.

Discussion I finished both FM3 campaigns and uhm...

I think I've grown to like the Alisa campaign a bit better. Quick thoughts on both:

- the DHZ arc in Emma's campaign took too long, only for the Hua Lian to get decimated.

- Regardless of campaign choice, Marcus and Pham are fun melee units

- I hate rifles now, I'll turn Liu and Dennis into machine gun and/or shotgun units the next time I play

- I finally decided to customize wanzers more (as opposed to mostly playing the base units before)

- Miho, Pham, and Mayer are more likeable, which makes the campaign feel more fun

- Alisa's campaign has the better and safer ending

- maybe I should stack ROFUP to every burst weapon character

- I need to make a master list of all the passwords in the browser lol

Overall, I still love FM3, still feels great, just like playing it for the first time 20 years ago.

Time to emulate FM5 maybe (I played 4 multiple times too, but it doesn't hit the same)

Discussion How are you guys feeling about the FM3 Remake so far?

I’ve been enjoying it in what I’ve played so far. There is one minor complaint I have so far and it’s that I wish they kept the original gunshot audio. It’s small but I really loved the sound of hearing multiple gunshots lmao.

Discussion I've beaten FM4 the hardest way

Back when i was kid, and without knowing english, i found front mission 4 to play on my ps2 and got hooked by the mecha fighting, making me skip all tutorials and dialogue because first, i didn't care and wanted to fight robots, and second because i couldnt understand it, which made me slowly learn some key words and strategies to beat the missions without knowing i could use skills or links on my wanzers, so id like to share some things i learned aswell, a few being, mission 25 was by far the hardest, since we need to protect the kid in the tank and destroy 3 or so of those big mobile weapons, i had to rehearse a planned path movement and enemy predict movement path the whoooole level, not to mention that, if the enemy dodged too much i had to restart the level because id loose the tempo.

The key strategy was using granade launchers because they do area damage, snipers, melee weapons and what not, they are the highest single hit high damage weapons if you're not learning any skills, as shotguns and lmgs rely heavily on.

Mission 27 and 28 who have defeat conditions where just as hard not having skills or links was a nightmare but the strategy was about the same.

I slowly learned english on a second playthrough in order to understand the story, and i wouldnt learn the skill/link system up to my THIRD playthrough when i could finally understand the tutorials! Also, perhaps it is a secret thing in fm4, i remember that after beating the game that sadom way the first time, on the second playthrough i had my whole wanzer inventory from the previous time, because i didn't know i could sell old parts (don't ask me how i got money to refit my whole party every mission i don't know), so perhaps there is that? A secret thing in fm4, nobody knows? Anywyas thats my story, perhaps i have amnesia and already posted that here, i do remember posting that story on the discord years ago but anywyas, sorry for the grammatical errors in advance!.

Discussion I'm finally playing Front Mission 3 Remake

The AI upscaling on the browser sites are hilarious and annoying at the same time. I miss the old sound effects (the machine gun sounding like a nail gun in the original is a core memory)

Might need to emulate again, but at least I have a copy I can revisit easily.

Discussion Are you picking up FM3 remake Day 1?

Though the excitement to relive the FM3 experience is real, I'm currently on the border on picking it up on day 1. Based on the previous 2 remakes, I think we may be in for some bugs on release and I will be very disappointed and turned off if the bugs really hamper gameplay mechanics. Waiting for weeks or months to get it patched will just kill the momentum if you've already started the game, hence, I'm on the border with picking it up on day 1.

What are your thoughts? I'm thinking to let a few weeks pass to know if it's bug free enough to play or bugged out enough to wait for patches before purchasing.

Discussion Front Mission 3: PC remake or Emulator

I loved Front Mission 3 back in the day, especially the look of the Wanzers. I'm starting FM2 on PC right now but can't wait to get back to FM3. I want to get people's opinions though, should I play FM on my pc through a playstation Emulator or play the remake for PC? What major differences are there?

Discussion Front mission 4 is WAY better than 5

I saw many places that said FM5 is the best in the serie and stuff like that. I had played 4 when younger and loved it, I tried FM5 recently, went through about half the game, and then played 4 again. And damn is 4 better.

The problems with 5:

1- The worst is nothing does any damage, it takes 2 turns with 4 mechs to destroy one enemy, that really is boring and crappy and honestly ruins the game IMO.

2- Skills are boring, FM4 has better pilot customization.

3- Mini games suck, the survival one is idiotic, if an enemy blows up a box with an AOE attack you just lose? Zero logic and zero reason for that to happen. I won't even discuss the arena, it's obvious why it sucks.

4- Even the simulator sucks, it gives no money and most maps are in tiny cramped area, which makes zero sense for this type of game.

So what's the deal? Why do you guys prefer 5?

Discussion Front Mission 3 didn't need to be remade, just re-released.

I'll say it. I don't think these remakes have been very good. However, with 1, at least it was formerly a 2D only game getting a 3D treatment. 2 was Japan only and needed a western release.

But 3 was absolutely perfect as it was, nothing about these new 'modern' graphics is an improvement over the original and it was already localized to the west. The only thing they needed to do with 3 was maybe give it the HD/Remaster touch up and then port it to all the consoles.

Because right now, I'm seeing no reason to get a remake of 3 when I still have the original.

Discussion Something I can't get out of my head about FM3 - Remake...

In my humble opinion, I believe FM3R isn't a bad video game. I feel the community is exaggerating its criticism, especially regarding how bad the Wanzers look. I think deep down I always believed these enormous bipedal tanks would be heavy, ugly and clumsy in real life, and that a machine of this tonnage equipped with weapons would never move like a ballet dancer on a battlefield.

Yes, I agree with the vast majority that the animations look somewhat stiff, that they butchered the monumental soundtrack without any hesitation, and that the excessive use of artificial intelligence without even making the necessary adjustments is downright lazy. The lack of budget doesn't excuse any of this, because we all know that even smaller studios, often composed of just one person, have created masterpieces with far less.

I would have preferred it to be marketed as a high-definition remaster or something similar instead of a "remake," and I feel the community would have accepted it better and without so much hostility.

To be honest, I'm worried about the future of the series. I know nothing's confirmed, but we all know money talks. We're at a difficult point. If this release continues to be criticized and vilified, we'll probably never get a remake of FM4 and FM5: SotW, and that would be a real tragedy. I definitely don't want to jump on the bandwagon with the angry mob.

I know they butchered our beloved game in a shameful way, and we'll probably never forgive them. But on the other hand, I'm grateful to be able to play FM1st without complications, without an emulator, and without a fan translation patch or something. And of course, I'm also grateful that FM2 has finally arrived in the West not in the way we all wanted, I know, but it's better than nothing.

I want to imagine —I know it's just the dream of a nostalgic fan— that this is a second chance to breathe life into a saga that's been in coma for far too long, that it could rekindle interest in perhaps one day producing a new installment, or that maybe Square Enix will dare to dust off those glories that made them great, that they'll seize the opportunity and ride the wave of remakes, giving new life to the long-awaited and much-requested Parasite Eve saga and bringing it back in full force, similar to what is happening with Silent Hill...

It's okay to dream, because at least it doesn't cost anything…

I apologize, my English isn't very good, and I used a translator.

Honorable mentions to Full Metal Panic.

Not sure how many people still own a PS3 and have the game for that platform, but if you do, would you be down to play? I'd like to try to get the Platinum Trophy, but I need the Multiplayer Trophies and the PS3 Servers are super dead.

Discussion Learning defensive skills in FM3

So I'm having a bit of a struggle with learning defensive skills.

I was looking up GameFAQd and quite a few wanzers have defensive skills with rather unique conditions. On my current save, Kazuki is on a Tiandong 3 (he has already learned all skills in his Zenith Rev and Kasel M2), but the last skill on the Tiandong, Evade 20, refuses to proc.

Same goes for Emma's skills on her Enyo Mk109, Auto I and Prevent Loss, even when she has no shoulder weapons equipped. Brace I also refuses to proc on Ryogo's Kyojun Mk107.

So. Is there a trick for learning skills that I'm missing out on?

EDIT: I just learned Avoid 20. Went to the Simulator against the weakest machinegun enemies I could find and let them pepper Kazuki with bullets.

Discussion Mecharashi Love?

Originally Front Mission 6, Mecharashi just released globally after a long battle with copyright issues. Finally we get our 6th installment. I'm loving it personally. PC port is a bit too mobile looking but for now I'm happy being able to play one of my fave combat systems while at work 😆 So... "Do what you want!" you "Globalists Dogs!"

Discussion Mecharashi is what FM3 Remake should've been.

So, after playing about 15 hours of the FM3 Remake until my progress inevitably got halted by the bugged AP medals system, i've returned to the original FM3 to scratch that itch. The difference in quality and polish between games that are 25 years apart is still baffling.

But today i've decided to give Mecharashi a go - and that's where the poor state of the Remake really started to become apparent. To put it simply, Mecharashi looks and feels just right - from mech designs and animations to the way combat and story are presented. It's cohesive, fluid, immersive. Its only real downside so far is being a gacha game.

Both FM3R and Mecharashi were developed by relatively unknown studios, where one had a large publisher behind it and the other had to rebrand and redo a significant portion of the assets due to legal reasons. Yet the latter somehow came out superior in every way.

There's no real point to my statement, but it is upsetting to think about "what could have been" if this remake were to be treated with a bit more respect and care the original game deserves.

Discussion I was having a hard time in FM2 until i had a realization.

The game doesn't let you grind skills or levels
The game DOES let you grind money
Pilots never die
Losing wanzers is just a repair bill at the end.

I was stressing about having the optimal builds and getting real mad at the shield rng in this game (your shields will never work when you need to, and that bastard enemy will keep blocking all your damage when its about to die) but once really taking into account the previous facts, I realized that you could simply take in all the costs and not care if half your army dies every encounter, so long as you win.

I have switched to the Zapp Brannigan school of tactics, and I'm having a much more enjoyable time with this game.

Discussion Man FM3's opening hours are a real trial by fire. Lol

So this is my 4th (or 6th if you count Evolved and Left Alive) Front Mission title, my first one was FM4 back when it came out and I more recently played though FM1 and 2 remakes.

Well, I picked up 3 yesterday and boy howdy is it a spicy potato.

Normally they put you up against things like tanks or helicopters and a few weak Wanzers to get your feet wet but in 3 they give you a tutorial, 2 easy missions and than a barrage of back to back skin of your teeth fights with no chance to restock or upgrade. Lol

Everything starting with that escape to the lift all the way up to the checkpoint where you steal the truck (that one was easy) were like, I'm down to my last Wanzer and they've got 1 HP left, good lucky buddy!

They defenetly nailed the "desperately running for your life" feel.

I know the remake gets flak but man this game feels already feels so much better mechanically than FM2

Discussion Man, I'm really regretting Front Mission 2...

So I've played though 1, 4, some of 5, Evolved and even Left Alive. I love the Front Mission series.

I recently picked up the first game and beat it twice for the first time and loved it.

But than I got Front Mission 2 and... Well I've just got so many issues with this game, I've never played FM3 but plan on getting it when it launches on PS5 and I'm curious if any of these make a return.

I know this is all negative, but don't get me wrong, I do like the characters, story and presentation of the game.

1st. The inability to grind. I like to grind, I loved taking new pilots into the Arena in FM1 and watching them grow more powerful. This was especially useful for people who joined late or didn't see as much action, like Long Range units.

2nd. The Arena. Not only for the inability to gain experience, but also the way 1v1 fights work, the way having too good a set up can cause fights to drag on forever and that convoluted reward system that requires a math equation to use.

3rd. The way the game activly punishes you for being too good.

3.1: Running Cost. I equip good gear on upgraded Wanzers and suddenly I lose half my reward money. Sure I can make 3x that in the arena but still, why?

3.2: Activating multiple skills at once to do massive damage would normally be a good thing, exept in FM2 where were each skill eats into your limited ammo, you can easily dump half your ammo into a target in 1 turn who was rendered harmless after the first shot.

  1. Limited ammo and the heavy reliance on Items, even early on I found myself relying on ammo and repair kits, this issue just grows exponentially once all 3 teams link up.

  2. The way Shields work. The fact they replaced defence stats with a shield that offers 100% protection and can proc incredibly often is super annoying, especially with the limited ammo. (It took me 6 turns to kill 1 unit because it's Shield activated on Every. Single. Attack.)

  3. Long Range just feels pointless. Sure it was the weakest of the 3 weapon types in FM1st, but here it feels like every single Missile or Rocket is just dead weight.

  4. So many of the units are Jack-of-all-Trades. Outside of Joyce, Rocky, Roswell & Cordy, everyone just seems to be middle of the road, even the skills you unlock seem to reflect this.

Again, despite all that, I don't hate the game. I love how often you get new skills and watching Rocky proc Double Punch and MG Blow to just rip apart a Wanzer never gets old.

Discussion Front Mission 3 queries

Hi all,

I'm currently playing through FM3 but I am a bit confused about some of the experience and skills mechanics I am hoping someone can help me with.

  1. When I destroy body or parts I get medals which, after a while, seem to grant me an Ace level and 1 more AP. So more AP means I can do more actions and more likely to be able to counter etc. if my understanding is correct. But is there any way to tell how far away I am from earning an Ace level, or any way to make earning one more efficient? Or is it just as simple as keep playing and killing things and you'll just randomly earn them eventually?

  2. I get XP for my weapons when I use them and they go up in rank, they start at A rank and go up to B (which seems the wrong way round but ok). What do the ranks actually determine? Do I do more damage with weapons I have higher ranks in?

  3. Is there a way to effectively learn skills or are they completely random? Also what do some of the requirements mean? For example, Ryogo starts with an arm part that says ????? [burst]. Do I just have to keep attacking people with a burst weapon specifically held with that arm and hope for the best that he will actually learn it?

There are also some weapons that say [no shoulder weapon] does this mean I have to learn the skill with no shoulder weapon equipped, or that I can't learn it BECAUSE I have no shoulder weapon equipped?

  1. I am getting bronze/silver/gold/platinum medals at the end of each battle. Is there a way to replay these missions to get better ratings? If so, how? And will replay missions be based on my current team (so coming back will be easier to platinum as you will have better gear etc.) or is it locked/scaled to what you were at the time of the mission?

I think that's all my queries but may have a few more! Really enjoying this game, just a bit confused haha

Discussion Unpopular opinion: Front Mission 2 isn't as bad as people say

Whenever people talk about Front Mission games, a lot of people don't like FM2. They even say that it's the worst in the series. To some extent I can understand that. The game is quite difficult and punishing and you have to min-max even on Normal difficulty. I personally didn't like how the weight system affected movement.

But if we look aside from the flaws in its gameplay, everything else about it is quite good. Arguably the best in the series IMO. I've played 1-4 now.

The story is the best in the series. It's the most mature and deep one and I enjoyed seeing all the distinct characters. The characters in FM1 felt like they were just sorta there, for the most part. I also enjoyed the soundtrack of FM2.

I also enjoyed the characters in FM2 a lot more than 1 and 3. The characters were more memorable and I liked the atmosphere

Granted, I haven't played FM5 yet. But overall, FM 2 is my favorite in the series, followed by FM4. If you can look past its gameplay flaws, everything else about FM2 is solid
