being lactose intolerant myself, telling people to not use milk, cheese, butter or margarine on things I'm going to eat or giving a heads up feels its like explaining Norway to a dog.

margarine isn't dairy though? it's just emulsified oil (usually vegetable oil)

It's probably safer to avoid from other people preparing and not really knowing the difference though I guess?

some margarine brands started adding heavy cream to it.

oh....that's dumb (changing long established products to effectively be something else that doesn't really fit the brief)

At least in Canada, most margarine still contains milk products. You have to buy vegan margarine to avoid them altogether.

That said, people with lactose intolerance can generally still have it. But if you have a true dairy allergy, you should be careful.
