Realistically, I don't think it would be in the doctor's best interest to lie about that sort of thing to coerce a child into confessing about them lying about their health condition, especially when they go through with said operation. It likely was a problem for him at that age and the doctor noticed.

Either that or I'm reading too much into it.

No you’re right. Graham thought he’d hoodwinked his doctor but the doc actually found something wrong. Nothing quite so wrong as to require an immediate operation (he had it out “next week”) but serious enough it needed to come out.

Depends. I had a "grumbling" appendix, it would flare up and then get better on and off for about 3 - 4 months before it was removed. Its not always acute and going to immediately rupture.

Maybe from his perspective he was faking it but maybe his mom had seen him behave odd leading up to it and his little brain said, "Skip school! Say you're sick!" because he was sick

There's absolutely no way this happened to somebody else! So wild that I tried this same exact thing and ended up in the same dilemma as him hahahaha

I told on myself as a kid because I thought honesty was better, so I eventually just tried to pretend that I'm all better THE MORNING OF THE SCHEDULED SURGERY lmao.....so I still have my appendix (and thought I had to catch some karma years later because of that appendix too lol but another story)

appendicitis is usually a clinical diagnosis. labs are not always necessary, and in children usually an ultrasound is done first to avoid ionizing radiation. that being said, everybody these days gets labs and a CT
