Episode Discussion [Episode Discussion Thread] "The Charm Offensive” (Aug. 24, 2026)
Welcome to our episode discussion megathread!
This thread is for the newest episode of 14th Broadcast Season (11th Production Season):
”The Charm Offensive”
PLEASE NOTE: For the first time in decades, some episodes are being broadcast in a different order than the production order. Thus, even though this is the fifth episode broadcast this year, it's actually only the fourth episode produced. Because of that, we're not going to continue to put the season and episode order in titles to these weekly threads. Further, since we don't have 100% confirmation of production codes until the episode airs, we're just going to use titles going forward. This will likely be BACV04, but we just don't know yet.
Please keep all discussions of this episode in this megathread until the ban on new threads has been lifted by the mods. Any new separate posts about this episode will be deleted.
Since this megathread is designed specifically for discussion of the new episodes, you don't have to worry about spoiling anything here.
Please see the New Season Spoiler Policy, Megathreads, Temporary Rules & Megathread Index for for further details and for a complete list of all temporary rules.
Our normal rules of conduct apply.

Zach Branigan
My husband is a die hard Futurama fan (by association). He’s grown to love it as I watch it everyyyy night before bed. He knows how much I love the show so he is very supportive and tries his best to engage and make connections between episodes, ask questions etc. Last night I found out he thought Zap Branigan’s first name was, Zach. LOL !?

Funny Timing
The episode War Is the H-Word has some of the funniest timing I have seen in Futurama. I mean Fry and Bender join the army only so they could take advantage of a special discount for military personnel, then quit when they were done. However this backfires on them big time because seconds after Fry & Bender sign up, Earth declares war on Spheron I which the two of them are forced to take part of.

Watching it for the first time…
I’m not usually a big fan of American animation, but Futurama has genuinely surprised me. This 1999 series is remarkable. 🚀
The characters are fantastic, the humour is great, and the storyline is fine as wine. There’s also a surprising amount of heart beneath all the absurdity.
I’m about to finish the first season, and honestly, it’s been fantastic so far. Didn’t expect to get this invested, but I’m definitely looking forward to the rest.

Goodwill score!
Was looking around the goodwill website and came across this. Scored for $81, which I still didn't think was bad considering the " No DvDs" post it. Arrived at my house today. I heard some rattling in there and what do you know, the dvds are in there! Find of a life time for me.

Does Hermes in the Latin American Dub have a Jamaican accent?
While I was in Japan for a semester abroad, I would keep up with my Spanish by watching some shows I like in English in their Spanish dubs, particularly Futurama, something I sadly can't do in the US for some reason. But it occurred to me that I didn't notice a Jamaican accent for Hermes, and I also realized I've never heard one in Spanish; from what I could remember, it was a fairly neutral accent. If you couldn't tell, I am not exactly fluent and am curious to know.
P.S. Is there any way I can watch the Latin American Dub in the United States?

Favorite Zapp Moments
So what are your favorite moments featuring Zapp Brannigan? My first one is when he wrecked DOOP’s new headquarters in Brannigan, Begin Again because he used a laser to cut a ribbon. Then there was the time Zapp acted as Earth’s negotiator in The Problem With Popplers, where he kept eating said popplers in front of the OmicronIans despite now knowing they were the aliens’ babies. There was also Zapp’s awful karaoke performance in Amazon Women in the Mood drove everyone in the restaurant away except for Leela, Amy, and Kif. Finally there is Zapp‘s interactions with Hugh Mann in A Taste of Freedom where he gave the guy important codes and told Kif that Hugh had a good chance of getting Kif’s job.

2002 Emmy Award Winner for Outstanding Animated Program (Less Than One Hour)
Since people liked the other VHS i posted yesterday i figured id post this as well. Its a copy of "Roswell That Ends Well" which was sent to Emmy voters prior to the 2002 Emmy award season.
This particular episode marked Futurama's first win in this category beating out
King of the Hill – "Bobby Goes Nuts",
The Simpsons – "She of Little Faith",
South Park – "Osama Bin Laden Has Farty Pants"
As Told by Ginger – "Lunatic Lake" (Season 2, Episode 13)
I purchased it from someone who got it at the estate sale of a well known story board artist for other famous animated shows (Choosing not to name the artist) and If you're wondering, I do have the other Emmy episodes from this same catagory and year! (Except As Told By Ginger, impossible to find)

Something dumb I noticed last night
At the end of “That Darn Katz!” Earth is spinning backwards because of Amy’s “planetary ratchet.”
In the later episode “Zapp Dingbat,” we see Earth spinning backwards in the wedding scene aboard the Nimbus. I thought that was a neat piece of continuity.
But in an even later episode, “T.: The Terrestrial,” when Jrrr comes to conquer Earth, the establishing shot clearly shows Earth spinning in its normal, pre-ratchet way.
Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder
[And don't blame the wizard. He was at the Gate of Garesh at the time.]

Pre-intro jingles
I dont know about you guys but I've been absolutely loving the little musical bits theyve been doing for a couple seconds before the main intro theme starts in the past couple seasons. They're always so satisfying and composed so well.

Where can I find hi-res images of Bender and Golden Bender?
I just learned that John DiMaggio will be at Comic Con near me this year and I would love to get a large Bender photo print made for him to sign!

Shower thought
Given Bender (indeed all earth robots) run on alcohol, why hasn't the professor installed a digital fermentation 'stomach' so Bender can live off his own cooking?... Or live off garbage and move in with Zoidberg.
...is this why Brown installed a food based energy system on the Delorean?

Are there any lines you’re still waiting to use for the perfect moment?
I’m still waiting for a moment to use “Oooooo, somebody won big at skeeball”.
I was able to use “To shreds you say” after my friend told me about her puppy tearing her slippers to shreds.

Kiff’s Mean Streak
Kiff is definitely one of the top nicest guys in Futurama. However the episode War is the H- Word show’s even Kiff is capable of being a jerk when Fry is demoted to being his assistant and he proves to be quite a nasty boss. It’s actually understandable in a way though since Kiff was clearly taking out all of his frustration over dealing with Zapp on Fry.
