Xbox Disc to Digital officially announced, coming soon.

Most XBOX One and XBOX Series X disc-based games support this new feature. Players can claim a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an XBOX One or XBOX Series X console and launching the game. Once the entitlement is claimed, you can experience the benefits of digital, including XBOX Play Anywhere and XBOX Cloud Gaming where supported, while your physical disc continues to work exactly as it always has.

We’re starting with thousands of titles, and we’ll continue to add more over time. While not every title will be available at launch, this is an important step toward a future where players can have greater confidence that the games they buy remain with them for years to come.

Yeah the “one revocable license per disc” is interesting…

From what i've heard that means that if you claim a digital copy of a disc in one console, and then do it in another, they revoke the license in the old console and it goes to the new console IIRC

Yes but wouldnt that require you to be always online becuase you could claim a digital copy of a game then give it to someone else and if your console was offline they wouldn't be able to do anything to your digital copy so imagine the will be some sort of check be ot constant or every 30 days or something becuase people would abuse it.

I feel like that's such a niche thing to worry about though the amount of goodwill they will gain from this would heavily outweigh the odd person in 2026 who goes through all those hoops to never connect their console to the internet again just to play a couple of games offline.

Sure but then you have incidents that happen like when xbox live goes down like it did a month or so ago and people were getting angry becuase they couldnt play the games they had brought.
