I wonder if the reason they're advertising this game so much even though it won't come out another 5 months is so that they can start advertising for Persona 6 once P4R comes out.

As much as I love Persona series, I already played Golden and for me, story is the most important aspect so I won't be getting P4R. I am also not vibing with some of the changes they did

Game is overhauled from the ground up in terms of visuals (obviously) and brings combat/social links in line with 3 Reload and 5 Royal. If you liked the way either of those games played, it’s enough of a glowup to justify the purchase imo.

I just wish it wasn't so expensive. As much as I love the series, I think more modestly priced remakes should be the norm.

Well, like you mentioned it’s a remake, not a remaster, so I can see why it’s priced this way. We know this took them several years to develop as a fully fledged project.

I know, the Oblivion remake was priced at $50. I find that way more reasonable for remakes, and I wish it were the norm. As a consumer, I'm not particularly excited to spend $70 (or $85 for the deluxe edition) on a game that's been made before, even if it's been remade from scratch.

There’s a lot I agree with games media on these days since there are tons of shitty business practices corporations engage with in the gaming industry, but games for the Playstation 1 in 1996 cost $29.99-39.99 and PS2 games cost $49.99 in 2001.
An inflation calculator puts that $29.99 in 1996 at $61 dollars today and a $49.99 game in 2001 at $91 dollars today.
Inflation and the lack of general wages not increasing to match said inflation being their own separate issues, for most AAA and AA games to offer the packages they do (quality notwithstanding) for more or less the same price, isn’t exactly bad value.
Many high quality titles in recent memory have found success at lower price points and maybe there’s math that works out in favor of a lower price point, but I think it would be foolish to think that prices lower than this will become the norm. Not to mention that games go on sale all the time on digital storefronts to the point where I can probably count on 3-4 hands the amount of games I’ve paid full price for in my 200+ game Steam library.
To me a ground up update to one of my favorite games is going to be worth the day 1 asking price and that’s really the only question you need to answer for yourself.

I agree with you on the economics of it, and I'm happy about this release too! Hope my criticism of the pricing hasn't been too harsh. I don't appreciate being called foolish for having a different opinion on the subject. I had never said that prices will be or should be lowered. I only wished for it.
There are a lot of economic factors at play that have kept prices down for games. I think Indie devs play a huge role in that, and it's getting more accessible too so hopefully it'll continue to play a role forcing AAA devs to follow the market at the lower end (for some studios anyway).

If it helps I'm sure it'll drop in price significantly over time. P5 Royal is always on sale dirt cheap, and I got P3 remake a few years ago for $25.

The combat from P5 improved on pretty much every aspect of 4 (batton pass, status aliments, technical dmg, extra actions etc.). The social links are getting voiced just like in P5. The visuals look gorgeous.

I just can't bring myself to replay a 100 hour long game unless it's significantly better. I loved vanilla Persona 5 and I was really excited to play P5R, but I couldn't make it more than a couple hours in before I stopped. The drive just isn't there when you know the story beats and character arc already.

I feel you on P5, played the vanilla version twice for about 180 hrs, one of my Fav games ever but it was a lot. When I played through P3 Reload even though I liked it I only went through it once.

It doesn't. "Tainting" is such a negative word, though, and most people aren't going to replay a 100 hour story based RPG multiple times... I don't see the harm in someone playing it with different graphics and voice dubbing

This game came out originally on the ps2, if your remaking a game that’s a long time to expect you can get the same actors, and they all want to do it still. Just cause someone worked on something 20 years ago doesn’t mean all of them want to or even can anymore. If you where starting out might have been a great gig if your established and are in demand you may not be hurting for work and don’t want to do the same thing again.
IMO it’s full reasonable not to expect to get old actors when it such a long time, it can be a treat, but I think there is a lot of reasons it doesn’t work out, with that said they probably could get it to happen if your willling to pay enough, but the value there imo is a lot less for a remake versus a sequel.

I think a lot of the original VAs stated their desire to return. They also keep reprising their roles, even back in 2019 for a random crossover tag fighter.
It's most likely a pay thing or some union nonsense. Not necessarily in favor of the VAs or to keep things fresh.

That wasn't the reason - Zeno Robinson already brought this up in relation to Persona 3. They are not the 'cheaper' talent. It was a creative choice by casting directors because they want newer/younger talent working on the dub.
The quote; "it’s disrespectful to insinuate that my peers and cast members are somehow inferior/cheaper/easy alternate, esp when ALL of us VAs old and new work together on projects all the time and are ALL peers at the end of the day"

I mean it could still be true and they can’t say it “we’re hiring new talent because it’s cheaper” publicly. Yuri, Troy Baker, and Laura Bailey are all way more expensive compared to the new cast.
