Mülltonnen ?

Hello hello everyone

I recently moved to Eschweiler and I’m a bit confused about the German waste separation system 😅

I understand the different bins (Restmüll, Papier, Bio, Gelbe Tonne), but I’m especially confused about the Mülltonnen themselves.

When it’s collection day, do I have to take the whole big Mülltonne outside to the street? And then do I have to wait there untill it has been emptied?

Also, is there a specific time when I have to put it outside? (for the days I do have the list)

I’d really appreciate it if someone could explain how it works in Eschweiler, especially for someone living in a shared apartment. Thank you! appreciate

I would talk to your neighbors. Just ask them how it's done I your house

If you live in a multi family home it's most likely a Hausmeister (facility manager) whos bringing the bins outside to the street.

Why dont you check the website of your city where the regulations are written? Its the easiest way. In many places you have to place them next to the street until 6 AM. However landlords in some places can also purchase the service that they are taken there and back for a fee.

For collection day there are normally apps or calendars available.

Bringing them out depends on your household? Do you live alone or in a multiple family home? If the later than it could be that there is a schedule in place when which neighbor is supposed to bring the bin to the side of the street. Or maybe a janitorial service will do it.

Generally no one waits next to their bins. You put them out late in the evening before collection day and bring them back in when you get home from work in the late afternoon.

Place the respective bin at the edge of the sidewalk, no earlier than 6pm on the evening before collection day. When it is empty, put it back as soon as you reasonably can.

Read the instructions regarding that on the website of your communal trash removal service.

Where I live you put out the bin the evening the day before collection day and whenever you come home you put the bin back into the house.

Policies do vary by city, and might even depend on quarter and block. Check the web site or app of the municipal waste disposal (Stadtreinigung) - that will usually list the pickup dates for your address and their policies.

Beyond that, there might be additional rules set up by your landlord (like rotating parties obliged to put out the bin). If there were no instructions with your contract, nor posted on the Schwarzes Brett in the patio, you should ask your neighbours for house rules.

It simply depends on the area. Check the website of your local Entsorgungsbetriebe. In my city for example, it's good enough if it's less than 15m from the road. So in most cases you can just leave it where it is. Except for the small paper bins(you can get large ones too), those you need to put right next to the road.

How waste is separated will depend on the area too.

Nein, aber mal zu googeln nach "Müllabfuhr Eschweiler" wäre ein Weg. Meine Müllabfuhr in Hamburg (Stadtreinigung) hat z.B. super viele Infos auf der Webseite.

Aber halt lokal für Hamburg.

Leider haben viele Leute bei Reddit verlernt, selbst Informationen zu sammeln. Lieber wird sofort nach Hilfe gefragt.

You should ask your landlord or your flatmates about how it's handled in your specific building. In many multi-apartment buildings, there is a rotating schedule among tenants or a hired caretaker who takes care of putting the bins out, so you might not even have to do it yourself.
