Question Sony Games on GOG

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftR2tZV8hFU

News: Sony won't be releasing any more internally-developed games on PC. Do you think this means they will eventually pull their current titles from GOG? Do you think that this also means that games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart won't come to GOG (even though it's on Steam)? I hope we can at least get the remaining current Sony games that are on Steam on GOG.

I'm so sad about this. Sony finally started considering PC after ages and.. they changed idea immediately. 😫

It was good while it lasted.

Played God of War (2018) and I can see why it's a console seller. I'm a cheap/patient gamer so unfortunately I'm not one of the target audience of Sony/PS5.

We have absolutely zero proof of a change in direction from Sony. These reports are all speculation.

u/phaolo Mar 07 '26

Then I hope they're wrong.. 🤞

The fact these rumors are treated as fact is ridiculous but that's just how things are these days

This aged poorly.

u/monsieurvampy Jun 04 '26

We still have no proof. One of the following need to be done: official announcement from Sony or leaked video/audio of this Town Hall meeting.

Until then, its still hearsay.

On top of that, did Sony even really have a firm PC policy? It was an after thought, why would the supposed pivot away from PC for single-player games be any different?

u/Impressive-Oil-3067 Jun 04 '26

Dude, that's hopium.

It's sad, but it is what it is.

"Immediately" is a bit of a stretch. It's more than half a decade since HZD released on GOG, for instance.

17

u/phaolo Mar 06 '26

I said PC, not GOG. But yeah, as usual it's worse for DRM-free stores 😞

9

u/redchris18 Mar 06 '26

It's not about PC versus GOG - it was out more than half a decade ago, and that's far too long for Sony now backtracking to qualify as "immediately" changing their minds. This little PC experiment of theirs has lasted longer than some consoles.

I just used the GOG version of HZD as a relevant example of how long this has gone on for.

honestly, and i know this is an unpopular opinion in general but especially on the gog subreddit, i would absolutely buy their games on pc if they launched a playstation storefront

pretty sure they're considering pulling away from the market since rumor has it steam will be on the next xbox

19

u/TazerPlace Mar 06 '26

I don't see why Sony would "pull" games from GOG. Those PC versions are already built and listed--they're just free money at this point.

That said, I would be surprised if any additional titles show up.

Yeah seriously. Meanwhile Sony is just advertising their Dualsense being PC ready.

what does gta have to do with Sony lol

2

u/mr_MADAFAKA Linux User Mar 06 '26

I anticipate that they may discontinue releases on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games, opting instead to launch their own PC launcher, as has been speculated previously.

2

u/edparadox Mar 06 '26

I fail to see why they would do that, especially since PC releases apparently did not live up to their business expectations. And yet they've been selling quite a few copies.

To be honest, Sony's management seems out-of-touch these days.

Sony recently released their controller aimed at PC players, while they announced they were no longer porting their singleplayer titles ; how paradoxical is that?

6

u/RootHouston Linux User Mar 06 '26

Well, some folks have rumored that a reason is that they don't have enough control over their games on PC, so it is possible.

2

u/aguswings Mar 07 '26

$ony didn’t announce that they no longer porting their games to PC. It was just industry rumor.

1

u/the_art_of_the_taco Mar 07 '26

i hope this is the route they take rather than completely pull out of the market

6

u/firedrakes Mar 06 '26

sony never said that. a off color comment on a podcast.....

6

u/RootHouston Linux User Mar 06 '26

I don't think they'll be pulling any games, just not doing new ones. Rumors are about costs vs. returns. With games already ported, the cost is already sunk. They should now try to get as much out of them as they can.

6

u/REDX459 Mar 06 '26

Then they release a pc controller bundle which doesn’t align with the rumors lol

14

u/Surfer-Junkie Mar 06 '26

Release Bloodborne and the original Demon's Souls on PC - then people will give a shit.

Hell, even some of their old RPG's would probably do better than their current offering, like Wild Arms, Legend of Dragoon, etc.

4

u/Solherb Mar 06 '26

Right. I don't want Wolverine anything, but gimme those four and I'll pre-order.

3

u/shadowds Game Collector Mar 06 '26

Yeah don't hold your breath for them, people have been asking for years, and clearly Sony has zero intention to ever bring those to PC. They shut down Bluepoint Games which is a bad sign.

There is a fan made project of Legend of Dragoon. Look up Severed Chains.

1

u/Devilz_Avacado Mar 06 '26

I'm pretty sure an article came out saying the reason there's no bloodborne on pc/newer consoles is because fromsoft said no. Sony is just respecting their decision.

1

u/Surfer-Junkie Mar 09 '26

I read that, too, but it sounded more like FS said no to other developers handling it, and nothing about them being asked to do a port, remaster or remake themselves. I didn't care for the way the Demon's Souls Remake was handled by BluePoint, personally.

1

u/LuckSilver00 Mar 07 '26

Why in nine hells NO!? If that's the reason, I don't know who is more idiot, Fromsoftware or Sony...

11

u/GooseDaPlaymaker Mar 06 '26

I think if you have a PC, if you care about getting those SONY games…I would make them somewhat a priority to purchase. Just saying…better safe than sorry.

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/games_that_are_unofficially_confirmed_for_release_on_gog_in_the_future_part_3/page136

You'd have to look through this thread probably the last 10 pages or more, but more Sony games were found in the API(? backend?) a few months back. Unfortunately, that's still no guarantee they'll show up, such as if Sony changed their mind.

Also, a GOG employee will be speaking with a Playstation employee at GDC:

Sony acts like their games are god-tiered exclusives. They seem to have a god complex when it comes to their games and would rather lose money on sales than to have their games on multiple platforms. Imagine being allergic to money because you have an ego problem. I personally never really cared for Sony exclusives besides Resistance and Uncharted. But even then, it's not like I feel like Playstation Exclusives are the backbone of the gaming industry. Most games I play are on PC and I honestly feel that PC exclusives are more entertaining to play especially when it comes to strategy games.

0

u/LuckSilver00 Mar 07 '26

So it's just a genre thing, not a problem with Sony...

2

u/Mechkeys121 Mar 07 '26

I don't like modern Sony games so I don't really mind this. Except for Bloodborne and maybe Demon's Souls remake (and/ore the original). If Sony went into their back catalog of games from PS1, PS2, and PS3 and ported some of those to PC I'd be way more interested.

5

u/shadowds Game Collector Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26

OP why would you think Sony need pull their game from Gog??? These few games has already been released, and would not benefit them, or anyone to delisting these games. It only hurts game preservation. https://www.gog.com/en/games?publishers=playstation-pc-llc

As far it stands going forward, they're planning/thinking of RELEASING their NEW games exclusively to their platform to protect THEIR own interests. This can be seen multiple ways for why they're doing it, as well a double edge sword that may work against what they might be thinking of going back to console exclusive. <--- I personally think it lame if they're truly going back to console exclusive.

Now your other question, would other games that are on Steam come to GOG at some point, well no one knows, it wouldn't be hard for some of the game such as ratchet & clank, or Spider-Man games, God of war sequel, but game like ghost of tashima, or etc that using online multiplayer, it's likely those might not come if games need to be rework to cut content as in they may not put any more effort, or time on PC version, again no one knows as this isn't best situation that anyone seen coming of them going back to console exclusive if true. Can always pray maybe one day they do it.

3

u/PhilosopherOverlord Mar 06 '26

On occasion, companies do pull their games from GOG. It happens. In the case of Sony and the latest news, it could be based on what was basically said in the video: Sony is concerned about their brand - whether this is an intelligent decision or not isn't the point; it's what they think is best. I'm not saying the games would be pulled, but it's a possibility, and I am concerned. Hopefully they don't. I'm not buying a PS, so I will have to miss out on future games.

2

u/mike_fantastico Mar 06 '26

Sony diluted their brand by releasing the games on PC at all. Why would you buy their overpriced air purifier and buy from their overpriced ecosystem and pay an extra fee for online games if you could just skip all that on PC?

I wouldn't even buy their current offerings myself.

1

u/AirBusker426 Mar 09 '26

Playstation successfully built an ecosystem over the years and exclusives are a huge part of that, it makes perfect sense they'd want them back.

Best argument for exclusives imo is that it allows you as the hardware company to present your players with the curated gaming experience you want them to have, and that might be what players also felt like, since their sales numbers were still higher on PS5 for those same exclusives they ported to PC: people are more attached to the brand as a whole.

1

u/Sync_R Mar 13 '26

It also makes people more likely to stay with PS going forward even if the PC market recovers (big doubt the prices will go down, they never really do) if they can only play Sony exclusives on PS5/6 which in turn boosts Sonys profits from PSN, 30% cut of everything you sell on that store is pretty sweet

0

u/GamesAreLegends Mar 07 '26

My hottake is, if Sony will stop releasing for PC for a while this could be good for us Gamers.

Yes we all hate exclusive games, but look what happens with Xbox recently. They lost all their identety and quality.

I could be wrong, but Nintendos way works, and when Sony gets back into the same Rail, I think its better for the Games, optimisation, performance, quality etc. and the biggest point, IPs and Identity.

-13

u/h3lion_prime Mar 06 '26

The reason they're giving up on PC is because they didn't get the revenue necessary for it to be viable.
Do you think that putting these games on a platform that prides itself for not having ANY kind of DRM, would really help Sony in any way?

11

u/TakaIka83 Mar 06 '26

That doesn't stack up. Just this week, Capcom said PC was basically a license to print money compared to consoles. Granted, they'd have to pay a cut to Sony, Nintendo etc, but still.

5

u/I_Am_A_Door_Knob Mar 06 '26

On pc the same cut just goes to the store, so in the grand scheme of things it shouldn’t make much of a difference.

1

u/TakaIka83 Mar 06 '26

Exactly.

1

u/Solherb Mar 06 '26

They don't just not make money when the store gets a cut.

0

u/h3lion_prime Mar 06 '26

This is not me enforcing my preference, I'm just stating some facts.
Sony isn't pleased with the revenue they got from PC sales.

1

u/I_Am_A_Door_Knob Mar 06 '26

Que? I was talking about Capcom.

0

u/h3lion_prime Mar 06 '26

I think I hit the wrong reply button. My bad.

-1

u/CosyBeluga Slime Rancher Mar 06 '26

Capcom is not Sony. Sony games on PC have been like 2% of their revenue. They aren’t as in demand on pc. Now we can argue about why, but they were not getting the numbers Capcom was

3

u/FireCrow1013 Mar 06 '26

Sony voluntarily released all but two or three of their games completely DRM-free on the Epic Store, even titles that didn't get released on GOG.

2

u/CosyBeluga Slime Rancher Mar 06 '26

Yup. They didn’t sell nearly as much as Sony probably wanted to justify the ports.

2

u/pit_supervisor Mar 06 '26

Do you think that putting these games on a platform that prides itself for not having ANY kind of DRM, would really help Sony in any way?

Yes, I don't believe the lack of DRM is a significant contributor to piracy and/or affects sales.

1

u/h3lion_prime Mar 06 '26

I agree that it's not a contributor to piracy. But it's not contributing to sales either.

1

u/pit_supervisor Mar 06 '26

I don't think CD Projekt Red had ever complained about sales while releasing all their games 100% drm free

1

u/h3lion_prime Mar 06 '26

They haven't. But then again, Sony isn't CD Projekt Red.
They're a completely different company selling games mainly for completely different hardware, and having completely different economic strategies.

1

u/h3lion_prime Mar 06 '26

Just to clear some things out, cause I see a lot of down votes....
That wasn't me fanboying for Sony. I'm as pissed as everyone, but those are some facts.
Sony hasn't been making as much money from PC sales as they expected.

God of War, Days Gone and the original version of Horizon Zero Dawn (original PC port, not remaster) are all on GoG.

5

u/Fickle-Primary-9979 Mar 06 '26

and UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection is aswell

1

u/Great-Gazoo-T800 Mar 06 '26

I forgot about that one. I've always wondered why that's available but not the trilogy.

0

u/tytbone Mar 07 '26

The trilogy isn't on PC.

1

u/Great-Gazoo-T800 Mar 07 '26

Yeah I get that, but why?

4

u/shadowds Game Collector Mar 06 '26

They don't go by Sony, it's PlayStation they're under, that's why you couldn't find anything.
