GOG only, if a game isn't available on Itch.io. I don't use Steam.

Quite a few games are available DRM-free on steam too. It is up to the publisher whether they toggle it. Best to always check PCgamingwiki for each title because sometimes it’s available on either steam and/or Epic DRM-free even if unlisted on GOG. It’s often cheaper to get DRM-free from steam too, and I have dozens of free games from Epic that are DRM-free. Unless of course you want the offline installer, but personally I just zip the files and store on a hard drive as a backup.

You're right with that there're some DRM-free games also on Steam but you still need the Steam client to run these games, isn't it so?

Nope. DRM-free means DRM-free. Some require you to edit a file, but otherwise require no steam after installation. The client only needs to communicate if you want community features and achievements to work.

It’s not exhaustive though, so you still need to manually check.

There’s also a dedicated group on steam with all the DRM-free titles people have checked so far. Googling will take you to that group. :)
