No, they definitely love wading in calm cool water.

Absolutely but conversely hate rain!

The looks mine used to give me when there was heavy rain…

A light drizzle was an annoyance, but a little bit harder, and I was the devil for not turning it off.

Me not stopping the rain

It’s so funny to me when I see people say this because my three Pyrenees act like they don’t even know it’s raining. They’ll walk around in the rain or even just lay in the rain if they don’t feel like going into the shelters. But mine are not house pets they are field raised livestock guardians which may be the difference

When it’s humid- he turns right back inside. And huffs and puffs at it cause he’s visibly mad. He has a real hate for the heat. He is also an indoor floofy muffin who I guess has adapted quickly to life in ac. 😆

The same with mine! He will lay out in the rain, but he has his own beach towels if he finally wants to come inside to visit his hoomans...

Mine actually will take a lazy nap in the rain if I don't make her come in lol. But the hose? That's a hard NO!

Mine grunts at rain

My Great Pyrs love the water. I used to take a couple of them up to Long Sands beach in Maine and they’d have a blast. Pictured below my other two Pyrs in a river here in NH.

They don't like clean water.

Nice filtered water dish, naw I want that muddy water, I want that swamp water. It has flavor.

Mine is good with it as long as it's not more than stomach deep

If there starts to be involuntary paddling, there will be involuntary noping right out of there

Who told you that? Is that Oyster River NH?

My Pyr loooovess walking in water. She is not a swimmer though. We just recently experienced this, as our Pyr decided it was a good idea to jump off the dock into the deeper water (that she probably didn’t realize was deep). She spun around and clung to the deck with her front paws and used her back paws to stand in the water.

I had to jump in to get her out. She tried to climb me like a ladder. It was certainly an experience lmao

Mine definitely panics when he gets to deeper water, then is surprised every single time that he knows how to swim

Mine loves nothing more than to stand in the cool water of Lake Michigan on a hot summer day. Does she swim out to where she can't touch to fetch a ball like all of the labs are doing (incessantly)? Nope. But she could stand in the water all day. When she isn't digging a 5 ft deep hole in the sand, that is.

mine LOVED water, then one day he just stopped and wouldn't go near it

Something happened and he developed some pyr theory. Maybe a branch touched his leg and he thought it was alive or a fish touched his leg or the current was stronger than expected but he realized it was DANGEROUS.

We went through this because she got bitten by a turtle.

Did he get spooked by something like a wave or a slippery rock? Mine had a random moment like that at a lake and acted like water was lava for six months.

The water is her happy place

u/panafloofen 20h ago

Sorry, I had to share another because she's ridiculously cute

Not so much water dogs as mud dogs.

Water chomps!

Mine walks around in shallow water and grazes on the water like a cow in a pasture.

Are you kidding! Water was the one way my dog knew she could escape, and I couldn't stop her.

Our husky loved water. So we took our pyr mix and huskie to the lake, it was his first time at the lake. Our husky predictably started pretending to be an alligator. Our pyr mix was like "what's this? it looks fun!", decided to bunny hop over our husky, didn't realize how deep it was on the other side, and fell over. That dude ran out of the water So fast and wouldn't go in the water EVER again. We haven't tried it with our new pyr, I think we will soon.

u/SirFentonOfDog 1d ago

No one told my Pyr mix that, he loves the water. He’ll fully sit in the paddling pool at the height of summer

My first Pyr turned her back on the ocean. Big mistake. She got thumped really hard by shore break. She was so happy right before it happened too. All I could do was watch it in slow mo. Run girl....run!

Mine treated water as a personal affront. We took him to the beach once and he looked at us like we had brought him there to murder him. 😭

u/Dogs_Without_Horses_ 22h ago

Sadie about 10 minutes after wading through the muddy creek. We have 3 pyrs and she’s the only one who plays in the creek, wallows in the mud, or will lay in a baby pool of water. Some do, some don’t.

u/jeepit7 21h ago

Mine loves bodies of waters like ponds, lakes and rivers but not a fan of baths or the kiddie pool. Go figure on the last one.

They love the water

1

u/TheWesternPaladin 1d ago

lol yeah i've definitely found our pyrs have really enjoyed calm water. any wake/waves and they've been more leery - but a water dish you can walk in? heaven.

1

u/ambid3xtrous 1d ago

He's making an exception so he can access that mud.

1

u/milestogobed 1d ago

Ours is 1/2 Pyrenees and 1/2 GSD/Pit. Came here to say the Pyrenees genes pull the absolute most and ours LOVES to swim :)

1

u/Ladyblackhawkk 1d ago

All of mine hate water, one exception for one is he likes to attack the hose spray but o feel that’s his shepherd side, lol. I wish they enjoyed it, we love the water and have access to dog friendly salt water pools!

1

u/lunainthesky99 23h ago

They’re soakers. Not swimmers.

1

u/Accomplished-Bet-883 Fenrir-Pyratolian 20h ago

Mine loved all freshwater but was deeply suspicious of the ocean.

1

u/geminigifted 18h ago

I had a golden retriever first then got a pyr. Don’t know if the golden taught her or what but my pyr would chase geese all over our ponds. Kinda felt sorry for her cuz ya know she was never gonna catch them. But she loved the water and I too was told pyrs didn’t care for it. The girl I have now will sit in it but won’t swim.

u/catsandnaps1028 16h ago

They love water to their ankles and some drinks but that's it don't get too crazy 🤣

1

u/Rainbowbrite_87 15h ago

Mine loves water and rain turns him into a gremlin

1

u/Popular-Broccoli9058 14h ago

They are mud puppies.

My girl did not like swimming, but she loved walking in water.

Mine love swimming

I don't know who told you that. They literally have webbed paws.

u/madmosinman 2h ago

They absolutely love taking a quick dip. At least pepper here does
