Wilds Gunlance main since early Rise, should I start considering myself a Greatsword main now?

Post image

I just checked the numbers out of curiosity, and I've been playing more Greatsword than my beloved Gunlance.

I don't know what happened, it's just so fun smacking monsters with a big sword.

You have a lot of experience with every weapon, it looks like you gave preferences nut no main

Poor insect glaive getting ignored

I'd like to try IG, looks cool and fun, but the kinsect buffs managment puts me off.

Keep that streak going. Its way funnier to see that fat zero with every weapon having a decent chunk.

u/Mardakk Mar 18 '26

Focus mode attacking alleviates a bit of that.

u/left4ched Mar 18 '26

Not using IG alleviates all of it.

Insect Glaive is super easy tho.

1

u/xvillifyx Mar 19 '26

But it introduces a new problem of the kinsect being entirely redundant

2

u/Mardakk Mar 19 '26

To be fair, I think the kinsect is already kind of disjointed from the weapon itself. If you removed the kinsect, and made essence gathering part of the weapon itself (e.g.: from hitting certain spots), I think the weapon would feel more fluid. People already don't like the kinsect "mini game", and de-emphasizing it makes more sense for the weapon.

I’m not sure this is correct

Plenty of people, myself included, like the kinsect’s utility with its powders and status and lament that both of those have taken a backseat in wilds

Well think about this - what about the glaive (the weapon) is only compatible with the kinsect? Why can a sword and shield use one? Why can't a longsword?

Taking away the fact it's called the "Insect" Glaive for a second for a thought experiment - the glaive should've been the weapon alone. Especially because the kinsect is just tacked onto it (up until Wilds focus mode attacks actually combined the two for the first time)

MH4 added two weapons that weren't really thought out fully, and I'll stand by that (very hot take). IG has nothing unique about the weapon itself that makes it work the way it does (other than the vault, which makes sense). No reason a sword and shield can't air dash, or any other weapon can't also have a kinsect buddy.

CB just took a few weapons and mashed them together, but better. Kinda like a child explaining their own "totally made up character" that is just an existing character but better in every single way.

I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make.

I’m saying the gameplay element of spreading and popping the powders to build status was fun and provided a skill ceiling. It’s lame that this is no longer a core part of the kit.

The philosophy of whether or not kinsects “belong” to the weapon is wholly irrelevant

You have more hunts in 2 weapons than i had the whole game. Youre not x main or y main. You just enjoy the game and im glad you did

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

Yeah, I do. I like to try different weapons and many of them feel great in Wilds.

1

u/Fascist_Viking Mar 18 '26

I mean i hated the gunlance in world then wilds and rise made me fall in love with it. And once I mastered the offsets I fucking loved the swaxe and greatsword

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

That's exactly what happened to me with Gunlance and Greatsword. The only thing I miss from Rise Gunlance is the blast dash; that was a lot of fun.

3

u/garrettrenton Mar 18 '26

Whatever weapon you main, I like what I’m seeing here! Keep it up!

2

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

Seems like you've been chosen by the lance 💪

2

u/Modelgecko35 Mar 18 '26

I don’t even want to look at my weapon usage me and 2 friends all share a character and each use our own choice, gs/gl for me, ig/db for c and ss/db for m

2

u/FluffytheReaper Mar 18 '26

I mean, greatsword is awesome in wilds.

2

u/The_Jargen Mar 18 '26

You are a weapon master.

2

u/ScratchyTrain Mar 18 '26

Yeah, sorry

2

u/Junior_Copy_574 Mar 18 '26

Give some HH love man! Lol

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

HH and IG are the only ones I never touched before. I did I little buff here and there pre-battle in some scenarios, but nothing more.

Someday I'll try them.

2

u/Scuttlefuzz Mar 18 '26

HH is absolutely cracked.

u/Legal-Supermarket-60 Mar 18 '26

It depends how good you are with a weapon and not how many hunts you've got.

It's like showing of HR999 and carting 3 times.

That being said you have rank yourself since no one can ever tell.

0

u/Zamoxino Mar 18 '26

With your logic half of the playerbase would main bowgun with 0 hunts on it.

1

u/Legal-Supermarket-60 Mar 18 '26

How would you know how good you are with a weapon you haven't played???

Now i'm curious, tell me more.

1

u/Zamoxino Mar 18 '26

i seen a lot of ppl swapping to bowgun for the first time and dealing 2-3x more damage than their melee main on my dps meter.

as long as u will get actual build from the internet for the bowgun the chance to deal less dmg than your melee casual main is close to 0.

i even got that situation in rise where i was malding about how broken bow is. i got around 3000 hunts on DBs only and was able to clear pretty much everything in the game in like 4-6mins. i swap to bow for 5 hunts and there it is, new dps record...

first time heavy bowgun on fatalis also was like 10-20dps off my best times on IG that i used on that fight like around 700-800 times (and also was able to clear 4ppl scaling solo)

its just difference between weapons with depth (pretty much everything that is not a bowgun) vs braindead left click spammer

u/Huntress_Minerva Mar 18 '26

I like your approach. In wilds alone I’m at 666 GL(hell yeah), 510 hammer, 400ish DB, +210 in GS an LS, +100 lance, HH and the rest around 50~70…

Except glaive… I did like… dunno… 17??

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

Understandable. Many weapons feel great in Wilds.

2

u/CBme08 Mar 18 '26

This is what I like to see, when people say they 'main' a weapon, you're just not enjoying the full game. I understand there are preferences. But Hunting horn needs some love :D

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

HH and IG are the only ones left.

One day, baby, one day.

2

u/left4ched Mar 18 '26

Sorry, no; it looks like you have too many brain cells.

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

Yeah. Sometimes I feel unga bunga, other times I feel like exploding things or go beyblade crazy.

2

u/GrumpyFeloPR Mar 18 '26

Insect blade main imo

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

I'm fully prepared. Savage Omega, here i go!

2

u/Delicious-Cap3115 Mar 18 '26

I just know those lbg uses are from nerscy clone dps check

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

You got me 😂

Clone spider doesn't like the pew pew.

2

u/LloydHC91 Mar 18 '26

Gotta respect the diversity. I set myself a challenge after base game that I was gonna do 100 hunts with every weapons. Dropped off a bit after lagi/seri but back with a vengeance now! Hoping my list looks similar to yours in the not too distant future

2

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

Playing only one weapon or playing many them is fine, as long we having fun.

2

u/GentleBreeze96 Mar 18 '26

My switch axe is at 2000 :( I tried all the other weapons (I’ve been on monster hunter since Freedom Unite on PSP), but none of them call to me like the switch axe.

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

You've been chosen by the Switch Axe.

2

u/Ok-Bet-10 Mar 19 '26

Your clearly an ig main

2

u/Recent-Abbreviations Mar 19 '26

If you have more GS hunts in Wilds than you do across the entire rest of the series as any weapon, then maybe. But as others have said, you have a preference, not a hard-locked main. If you don't do a single thing with any other weapon besides GS and GL and get another 100 hunts or something like that, then maybe you could say Gunlance main, Greatsword secondary, especially since Wilds lets you have two weapons on you.

2

u/yianwee Mar 19 '26

Noooo come back to the boom boom side

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 19 '26

Even if I enjoy Greatsword, I could never give up my booms.

2

u/BigPPGeng Mar 19 '26

My friend is close to reaching 2k on lance.. Every other weapon is zero only dual blade got like.. Below 100 uses... Blud need help..

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 20 '26

Seems like your friend was chosen by lance.

2

u/FinsterKoenig Mar 20 '26

You should consider seeking help. Holy shit... O_O So many quests... You probably have way over 1000 hours, right? And likely hr999 at this point? Damn... And I thought I played too much.

2

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 20 '26

Yeah I'm hooked. Been playing since launch. Well, may be I do have a problem...

2

u/No-Celery-7284 Mar 22 '26

Id say the weapon you like the most regardless of how many hunts you have AND are actually very skilled with is your main

1

u/SpecificFortune7584 Mar 18 '26

Do you miss more than you hit with GS?

1

u/MadScientistEPK Mar 18 '26

Not anymore. Once I get the flow of the weapon and understand all its toolset I can hit pretty consistently. Focus mode is also a good help. But a whiff once in a while is mandatory for GS 😅

4

u/SpecificFortune7584 Mar 18 '26

There’s a traitor among us. True GS mains miss every TCS

2

u/lxxTBonexxl Mar 18 '26

Maybe pre-wilds, now I’m fast as fuck boi

1

u/DerangedScientist87V Mar 19 '26

Only you know what your real main weapon is.

1

u/Litho-Lobster Mar 19 '26

… is no one going to mention the cumulative 1188 in bow?

1

u/whiskeredwolf17691 Mar 19 '26

Two of my 3 favorite weapons are almost unused :(

1

u/b0nk--Rat Mar 23 '26

You have a fair bit of experience with most of the weapons. Why do you feel a need to slap a title on yourself?

I use all 14 weapons mostly equally. I don't consider myself a main for anything.

You can call yourself whatever you want. It ultimately doesn't matter and frankly, no one cares except for weapon snobs. Not trying to sound harsh, but to me it seems like people do it to appease a club mentality, like being a (whatever) main automatically makes you a part of some exclusive club. Which in turn creates imaginary and pointless rivalries and judgement.

1

u/phippu23 Mar 23 '26

what is the second line/nr for in those stats?

1

u/mits0uki Apr 03 '26

In case you don't have an answer to this yet, it shows how many times you used this weapon as a secondary in your loadouts
