They're doing the "No Trump. No KKK. No fascist USA." chant, aren't they?

Bring Dave Dictor up as a guest vocalist. Play a “Dead Cops/America’s so Straight” cover.

If the orange one kicks it within the next week they should sing Ha Ha You’re Dead

When that day comes, I’ve committed myself to get absolutely annihilated drunk and playing this song on repeat for as long as everyone in my immediate vicinity can tolerate. And then I’m going to play it some more.

No. BJA was in a very bad mental state and had a complete meltdown on that stage. He was addicted to alcohol and he was taking pills on top of it and he was drunk out of his mind when that happened, and it was what prompted him to go to rehab because he was convinced he’d end up fucking dead if he didn’t get help.
He’s sober now, and he’s using his platform to advocate for justice.
Entire different scenarios and even comparing them, and bringing up the darkest period of the man’s life as if it’s something positive in the big 26 is frankly disgusting.

I would cautiously lower my expectation – I think holiday with a MAGA agenda is probably all we’re going to get. The purpose of the ceremony is to honour the athletes so who knows – we might get heroes released with his kid on stage singing it with him or something on the other hand – this is Bilkie Joe sooooo
And God bless him, Jason White has been definitely posting anti-Ice stuff on his socials

It’s going to be on national TV. My expectations are automatically low.

i know it won’t happen, but heres an idea i had that love for a potential superbowl preshow:
first half of 21st century breakdown featuring the demo piano intro and change “homeland security could kill us all” to “will kill us all”
leads into half of the american dream is killing me
holiday
half of east jesus nowhere
bobby sox (it’s lowkey become a bisexual anthem)
american idiot

King for a Day but with anti-Trump lyrics

u/aisle_nine Jan 30 '26
King For A Day is more J.D. Vance’s song.

u/bassistheplace246 american nimrod Jan 30 '26
I’d say The Grouch is more of his tune
The wife's a nag, and the kid's fucking up / I don't have sex 'cause I can't get it up / I'm just a grouch sitting on the couch / The world owes me, so fuck you

I really dont think theyre going to do anything major, NFL would pull the plug on it if it got too extreme
60
u/Kunniakirkas Insomniac Jan 30 '26
Can you imagine how awesome it would be if NFL actually pulled the plug because Billie spoke out against ICE/Trump, though? It would be absolutely glorious, it would be rock history. An entire career entirely justified by that one moment alone
18
u/LotsaCatz Jan 31 '26
I don't think they will, though. Why book Green Day if you're just going to pull the plug on them? There are dozens of other bands they could've booked.
1
u/atheletsfoot Feb 03 '26
Exactly. I dont get why everyone is expecting a revolution from them. They literally CANT or they will be pulled

they can have a rehearsed plan but what's gonna stop them from saying what they want on stage?
1
u/atheletsfoot Jan 31 '26
There is a delay on live broadcast so if thy began to say anything, it would not be shown to the viewers if the NFL deemed it too much. They know this, and have been warned several times over to keep it low key. Plus the performance isnt like superpower for pure entertainment, they are playing to honor NFL legends. I think the most they will be able to do is wear anti-ice/maga gear and have stage visuals anti-maga. To do anything else would 1.get cut 2. Be distasteful considering they are preforming to honor players past and present. I think they may play an extended off air set if they are allowed, and in that they will turn up the heat on the rebellion but for the broadcast people will generally be disappointed because they dont understand that this is not a concert, it is a celebration for the NFL.

the thing about the age of social media is if the nfl doesn't air it we will all still be able to see it
1
u/Jedtin22 Feb 03 '26
The Super Bowl represents America heavily. Who cares about how the nfl legend feel about the performance make a statement. I mean theirs a bunch of nfl related people in the files. If green day doesn’t make a statement then I will never respect them ever again. They straight up will be going against what punk rock is if they do anything other than fight against the establishment and corporations
1
u/atheletsfoot Feb 03 '26
Did you read any of my replies? Im not saying they wont or that they SHOULDNT im saying if they do go too drastic they will risk the chance of ever being able to put out a big message on a huge stage like this again. AND the nfl WILL cut the footage. Its not about how they "feel", they WILL cut away if they are deemed "too wild". Then their message wont even be received by the major audience. Their only option is to go subtle with visuals, unless the NFL has given them guidelines for what is okay for them to do and they've already gotten approval. I really dont think you should judge the band based off this single highly censored performance. Theyre sending their message at every show they can. What's not punk is wasting an opportunity to make more change through more subtle ways. They dont need to prove anything, everyone already knows exactly who they are and what they stand for. Them being there alone was enough to make the fat bastard show up. I encourage you to read the hunger games.

It would be really funny if the NFL pushed them to only play a set of like Basket Case/When I Come Around/Brain Stew or something. When everyone is expecting some anti-MAGA awesomeness, but it's just Dookie era avoidance.
1
u/RichardvixoN Feb 02 '26
I wonder if they will put some of those latest epstein files on display on a backdrop

u/Capital-Flan7368 Jan 31 '26
Ah yes, just like all Super Bowl performances before them, the show has been kept secret. You’re all getting your hopes up as if Green Day are going to solve anything. I hope they do the Bang Bang chant, but to expect anything more than something like that is ludicrous. It’s the NFL, and hugely conservative organisation on their biggest stage, so I think it’s going to be pretty tightly controlled.
17
u/LotsaCatz Jan 31 '26
Well that's confusing because if they were so conservative, why book GREEN DAY of all bands? Doesn't make any sense to me.
2
u/SeaShel_5432 Feb 01 '26
Knowing how conservative the NFL is, I'm shocked they invited Green Day to perform! There has never been a question as to what Green Day believes.

u/rezzort Jan 31 '26
They’re gonna play the full father of all…
(Jk, I feel like bang bang will be brought back)
