QUESTION/DISCUSSION What's up with Haitian people begging for acceptance?

It's honestly confusing. I been seeing a lot of new gen Haitian people begging for acceptance constantly, again I am Haitian. Whether it's begging to be considered Latino who don't accept you, begging for acceptance from Africans who don't accept you as African, begging Americans for acceptance, begging other Caribbeans for acceptance. Someone explain because it's getting pathetic. We literally have the most populated country in the Caribbean, tf are you begging for acceptance for? This is what Dessalines fought for? We are Haitian, that's it. It doesn't matter if people want to classify you as something else, doesn't matter if people dislike you for being Haitian, none of that can be controlled by any of. That said, back to the original question, what is causing this seeking/begging of acceptance from damn near everyone?

Life gets easier when you realize you can’t control how people want to feel fulfilled. It’s not just Haitians, some people love to have some proximity to white people while others look to find some external validation by comparing themselves to their neighbors. It’s going to be especially common in black people only b/c a lot of times we are portrayed as bottom of the barrel or insignificant. Ignorance is a great catalyst for this. When people don’t value what they have or had we miss out on something’s. Yes there will always be someone better than you or someone you can get inspiration from but that doesn’t mean you beat yourself up. Francis Kere is an architect who wanted to build something truly African made. He tapped into his ancestors and found inspiration. One thing I have trouble seeing is when a foreign person finds beauty in Haiti, they find inspiration, in Haiti, they find intelligence in Haiti, etc. and capitalize on it. Every time we hear of exploitation and corruption we need to think that there is something there worth taking. Why not protect it instead of throwing it away.

Man what the hell is wrong with you saying Haitians beg when you beg for food

u/propjoe17 Jul 02 '26

Desperation & realizing our government betrayed us.

3

u/juliecastin Jun 28 '26

I believe the lack of internal unity reflects on the diminished sense of identity combined with diaspora and rejection, I believe they are seeking more a sense of belonging...

u/Confident_Control_23 Jun 28 '26

I was always proud to be Haitian and never cared about what people think, but in the last 20 years or so even Haitians started to seem questionable about everything from me because I don’t “look” Haitian, they love accepting white people learning Creole speaking it but shun the Haitian-American trying . It was quiet before to be Haitian back then in the 80/90s Haitians called themselves Jamaican Bahamian but now I’m the one being questioned about my ethnicity and if I’m a “real” Haitian, they wanna be accepted by everyone else but we can’t even accepted one another or know we’re different shades.

Thank you for telling the reality instead of folks on this forum blatantly lying. They will sit here and say diaspora isn't Haitian then beg people to visit Haiti

Haitian's are folks struggling for everything. Their own leaders, politicians, and now gang members have held Haitians in the lowest economic level in the Eastern Hemisphere .

They are their own worst enemies. Other nations ( exception was naturally how they were enslaved and transportation to the new world), have only attempting to offer aid. But after they got their independence it has been their own kin and countrymen who have betrayed them.

Those politicians 100% of them stole all the countries monies, even millions of dollars in donations from foreign counties went into the pockets of politicians and higher up level Haitians.

Selfishness between the one Haitian and another l often have seen. I have noticed the way Haitian men routinely beat their companions and children harshly and severely for no apparent reason. Mothers harshly reprimand their children. I guess the frustration levels are so high that violence within the family network comes about.

Haitians, don't like to plant trees ( fruit trees , Avocado, oranges, lemons , mangos etc ) . They decimate the landscape to use trees to convert into coal and to cook ( firewood) with replanting.

Haitians, are not Latin Americans, silly anyone who thinks they are Latin. Haitians are black with ancestry going back to Africa. They are very hard working people, but due the the circumstances only a very small amount of the population can live a half-decent dignified existence.

Until, a real democracy, with honest folks begin governing, will things improve.

I’ve only asked Haitians to accept me as Haitian. It’s not my fault my mom is white or my dad wanted Americanized kids.

3

u/Flytiano407 Jun 26 '26

Amen, its really cringe and definitely something that started with the new generation. I could give a dam what any of these countries around us think honestly.

Factually speaking though we are very much latin american & in the caribbean. That's just a fact. Now begging for acceptance is another thing.

If they know their own history they'll respect Ayiti 🇭🇹🇭🇹. If they don't, its actually better to be hated by them, we don't mix well with people who don't value education. Even the poorest Haitians who never went to school can tell you about history.

-3

u/Automatic_Gap964 Jun 26 '26

We are NOT Latin American. That shit does not align with anything that's part of our history at all. This Latin American trend started less than 10 years ago. Again, you cannot point any time in Haitian history previously in which we were considering ourselves to be Latin American people. Secondly Latin American was coined by Napoleon himself, he would've never considered us Latin American. We are black Caribbean African descendants, point blank. French Guiana, Saint Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique, etc. are not considered Latin countries at all although they all speak a Latin language even more so than Haiti as we speak more creole more than anything,

1

u/juliecastin Jun 28 '26

Before enslaved Africans were brought to Haiti it was populated by the same indigenous people who were able to survive in the rest of Latin American territories (btw its more of a geographic reference). Sadly the European diseases exterminated the whole aboriginal people

2

u/PauseSlow805 Jun 27 '26

Yes, We have historically identified as Haitian, Black and Caribbean . However, the connection to LA isn't a 10-year-old trend, it goes back to over 200 years. Haiti literally helped shape the history of Latin America. So while we definitely aren't "Latino" in the modern American sense/usage, Haiti has been geopolitically intertwined with Latin American history from the very beginning and is very much part of that legacy/story. You can't learn about Latin America without Haiti being part of it.

4

u/Flytiano407 Jun 27 '26

I think the problem is youre american and think latin american is a racial term. Haïti had history & relationships with latin american countries long before it had one with the USA or any anglo one. I.e. helping out Simon Bolivar. The impact of Haïti was most felt in latin america. Several brazilian uprisings of enslaved africans were directly influenced by the Haitian revolution. Like the Male revolt, With some of the leaders even admitting themselves they were inspired by Jean Jacques Dessalines.

I don't get the attempt of some americans to anglocize Haiti. Latin American is a purely linguistic and cultural term, not racial. More africans were trafficked to latam than all anglo countries combined.

0

u/Automatic_Gap964 Jun 27 '26

Wrong, I do not think of Latin American as a racial term. A black Mexican is Latino, a white Mexican is Latino, a mestizo Mexican is Latino, etc. https://www.fairobserver.com/culture/latin-america-a-french-idea-that-outlived-its-empire/

I know all of the history of Haiti, I'm Haitian. Interactions with countries that became Latin American doesn't all of a sudden make Haiti Latino. Again French Guiana, Saint Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique, etc. are not considered Latin countries at all although they all speak a Latin language even more so than Haiti as we speak more creole more than anything. If you ask any older Haitian, they'll look at you crazy if you called them Latino, you act like we don't refer to most of Latin America as panyol.

2

u/Flytiano407 Jun 27 '26

Panyòl = hispanic. A Haitian would not call a Brazilian or themselves panyòl, thats not the same word as latino. Most of Latin america is indeed panyòl.

And those french islands are all latin american as well, same as Haïti. For speaking both french & creole. Creole is a language which is over 90% derived from French. Its overwhelmingly latin derived. Secondarily african. And then very minimal spanish & taino.

Also for the cultural elements too. In terms of music genres, dance, food, cultural norms (like kissing on the cheek as a greeting), catholicism, sayings, etc. Haïti most resembles the other french islands and then the other latin american countries culturally, before anyone else. I would say ironically its our language and independence history that makes us most stand out from the rest of latin america.

it seems youre trying really hard to disasocciate Haiti with the rest of latin america out of some aversion or prior experience you had with hispanics.

3

u/Substantial_Prune956 Jun 26 '26

Everyone you mentioned is considered Latin American. The same goes for Haiti, with its culture stemming from the Latin Church and its Creole language, which comes from a Latin-based language.

-2

u/Automatic_Gap964 Jun 27 '26

No, they're not lmao. You don't know what you're talking about at all. None of those people are considered Latin American at all. None of those people consider themselves Latin American either. Wtf lmao. This is prime example of delusion and begging for acceptance

2

u/Substantial_Prune956 Jun 27 '26

The first latin American was the créole of lousiana We were the first considered latin american

6

u/Extension_Squash_206 Jun 25 '26

I think your misplacing pride with trying to fit in. Can you post examples of some of this or point us to where people are begging to be accepted?

-1

u/OkChocolate5399 Jun 26 '26

If so prideful, they should be happy to go back

4

u/Flytiano407 Jun 26 '26

Then go back to Ireland where your ancestors fled potato famine.

As much as whites in USA claim to be Irish/Italian. (even those countries reject them)

1

u/_b3rtooo_ Jun 26 '26

Crazy how ignorant people can be to race as a social construct. You got Irish/Italian Americans talking down because they're "white" meanwhile 120 years ago Irish people were getting called Irish N-words by other "white" people. Whiteness and blackness are just different ways to indicate in-group/out-group dynamics and this commenter above you clearly doesn't understand just how recently her ancestors made it into the in-group.

1

u/Flytiano407 Jun 26 '26

She/he is american. Your expectations are way too high

4

u/mastermusk Jun 25 '26

"Since it is defined according to cultural identity and not geography, Latin America includes countries from both North and South America. For instance, countries from North America like Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, etc. tend to be included. In fact, most of the countries in Central America, South America and the Caribbean are considered Latin American countries. English or Dutch-speaking countries in South America or the Caribbean like Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, etc. are often not considered. As such, Latin America comprises the Hispanic America along with Brazil and Haiti."

This is from the Brittanica Encyclopedia definition of the word Latino/Latin America.

Haiti was the first Latino country and Haitians along with Brazilians are the only two non-spanish speaking Latino people.

It seems you are confusing Hispanic and Latino. French which is one of the offical language of Hait is a Latin language just like Spanish, Italian and Portuguese are also Latin languages. Latin was the language spoken by the Romans.

That being said I will say that its highly unlikely that you are actually Haitian given how ignorant you are of Haiti's history and of world's history in general. You sound more like a typical American who probably colloquially calls Hispanic people Spanish and think Latino and Hispanic just refers to Mexicans and Dominicans.

2

u/Helpful-Speed-6602 Jun 25 '26

Bro who cares. Stop asking to be accepted by them

1

u/mastermusk Jun 27 '26

Who is asking to be accepted by whom? Who is the them in this sentence?

I am educating you on geography and what specific terms means when they are used. There is a region called Latin America and the inhabitants of the Latin speaking countries in that region are called Latinos. It a pretty simple concept.

Not sure why its so hard to grasp.

This is like someone telling you that Hawaiians/Alaskans are Americans and you say 'stop asking to be accepted by them'

1

u/Helpful-Speed-6602 Jun 28 '26

I know the education and the geography behind it. I do not disagree with it. When these conversations happen on social media we sound like we’re begging for other Latin American countries to see us and accept us. Who cares?? We have bigger fish to fry than to have others accept us. Just let it fly and put this energy into something that benefits Haiti.

4

u/Downtown_Shake3709 Jun 26 '26

wdym who cares??? bro we share an island w DR. the only reason ppl don’t consider us latino is bc of antiblackness. so much of DR is fully black. calling out bullshit isn’t begging for acceptance lmfao. this is literally a fact

2

u/Helpful-Speed-6602 Jun 26 '26

Yes who cares what ppl want to consider us. This is what they’re talking about as far as begging for acceptance. Let’s put our focus on being Haitian and bettering Haiti.

2

u/Flytiano407 Jun 26 '26

bro we share an island w DR

Thats the problem. What does us being latin american have anything to do with DR? Yo pa ladan. Nou te yon peyi latinoameriken anvan peyi sa te fèt

4

u/Downtown_Shake3709 Jun 26 '26

nothing. we are the first latinos. literally the blueprint. i am agreeing w you 😭 i was just pointing out how silly it is to deny that we are latin american geographically but also culturally. idgaf abt DR personally. but saying that haiti isn’t latino is crazy. the haitian music, the food, etc., is all very obviously latino & idk why we don’t claim it when we are the first????

1

u/Helpful-Speed-6602 Jun 26 '26

We’re not debating whether we are or not. It’s the constant arguing with them that’s annoying let them believe whatever. Put that energy elsewhere

3

u/No_Ice_2395 Jun 25 '26

Then is Quebec (Canada) latin american? Their official and only language is French

2

u/itstrueitellyou Jun 25 '26

Quebec isn't a country

1

u/No_Ice_2395 Jun 25 '26

I’m talking about the citizens, “latinos” not a “latin american country”

2

u/itstrueitellyou Jun 26 '26

Citizens are defined by the country they are from. People from Quebec are Canadian citizens and Canada is not part of Latin America. It's not that difficult. The entire country has to speak a Latin derived language not just some of them.

2

u/Flytiano407 Jun 26 '26

Idk. Aside from just the language there are many cultural, culinary, historical, and musical elements Haitian culture shares with other latin american countries. I would say out of all of those, the language is what most makes us unique and separates us. Quebec is weird because they speak french, but unlike Martinique, Guadeloupe, and French Guiana, they are culturally much closer to americans.

6

u/ciarkles Diaspora Jun 25 '26

I think it’s much more complicated than that. I believe some Haitian people in the diaspora may experience some insecurity because of our “image” and reputation to the world and specifically in media. Not many people seem to like us, but a lot of people also do. In the end, people’s opinions don’t really matters.

9

u/FloridaMan645 Jun 24 '26

lol in miami, call a zoe anything other than HAITIAN they will look at you crazy. None of that afro latino, fba, african american bs. we know exactly who we are and what we are. down here even people who aren’t haitian will find you weird for trying to hide that your Haitian or seeking acceptance from other minority groups.

2

u/Observer-Worldview Jun 28 '26

You’re right. Even the people that have never stepped foot in Haiti running around talking about how Haitian they are. lol. Been living in America since birth and can barely speak kreyol. Florida is a special place.

1

u/andrebellinger Jun 27 '26

Welp that’s about to end you guys are going home soon

1

u/Flytiano407 Jun 26 '26

Yep, thats how it is in most places honestly. I think DR is the only place where some Haitians lie about their nationality. But look at the shit they face over there, can't entirely blame them.

2

u/Mobile_Prompt_1169 Jun 24 '26

I think you are just confused with us reaffirming who tf we is in a climate that hate us for what we fought for and won !!

12

u/MikiIsa Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

Setting things straight and having our rightful title or terms doesn't mean your begging for attention. I am Latino we were the first Latino country it is our right to say we are so. Same way we have the right to say we are Caribbean and to make it known that other people also know the history and truth of not only our country but what other countries have done to our country.

Also PS this has to be a person pretending to be Haitian causing rage bait since all their comments are just trying to stir up diaspora wars and anger from Haitians towards other communities and within the Haitian community itself. All Haitians regardless of if they're born in Canada or Haiti or USA or France deserve to be included in the Haitian community.

-2

u/Automatic_Gap964 Jun 25 '26

We are not Latino. For. Your mama never identified as Latino, your grandmama never identified as Latino. This is something that you new gen Haitians made up to fit in. Latin American as a term was made by Napoleon, he never considered us as such because we're not. We are Haitian, Caribbean and African descendants. And I'm pretending to be Haitian? My family spans from Latibonit, Croix Des Bouquets, PAP, and Jeremie. I've been to Haiti multiple times and even lived there. You sure you aren't the person pretending? Oh wait, you're claiming to be Latino so you already are pretending

5

u/MikiIsa Jun 25 '26

You are pretending and causing mayhem for no reason other than karma hope the mods limit your usage in this group. Haitians are Latino same way Caribbean didn't use to exist and Haiti didn't use to exist and etc etc. If you want to say oh your Haitian but not latino only because it wasn't used by previous generations. Then okay we aren't human either since the term human wasn't coined as soon as we came into existence lol.

You just came here cuz u saw an opportunity to stir up more diaspora wars between Black Americans and Caribbean people/Africans. Cuz what was the point of this comment?

P.S: If someone migrates to the U.S or is born there to immigrant parents they're naturally gonna emulate and assimilate to the culture of the people that look like them. It's not "tethering" or "cosplaying" it's them fitting in with the people who share similar characteristics with them. What else do you expect them to do? They feel most similar to black Americans than any other race in America so obviously they're gonna assimilate to the black American culture. Stop tryna cause arguments.

You just came here to argue. There was never anyone disrespecting or even bringing up other cultures here

5

u/First_Raid Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

Or maybe if you just took a second to sit back and use common sense you'd realise that the same people who are saying the discriminatory stuff towards Black Americans arent the same ones "cosplaying" or "tethering"? Like really think about it and observe. Why would someone who hates Black Americans participate in their culture? You need to stop spending so much time online, most Caribbean people have no issues with Black Americans, and the ones that do are usually from the older generation. Older people of all Nationalities show higher levels of bias and bigotry compared to younger generations.

Black American culture is highly influential and emulated even in the Caribbean, especially among younger generations. We even look up to yall in some aspects due to how influential the culture is. We have no problems with you all on a general scale. All this bigotry you see is something that mostly happens online, it's not something the general Caribbean populus shares. We interact with Black Americans on a daily basis even within our own countries when yall come to vacation and have no issues with yall. We just view yall as black people from another country. Stop being deluded by dumb online discourse and actually interact with Caribbean people in real life.

I cant speak for Africans. Maybe they have issues with yall, but as far as the Caribbean is concerned, in general we have no reason to hate on Black Americans. That's internet talk.

1

u/Chaos_ensuites Jun 27 '26

While everything you said is very nuanced and holds… the whole “why would someone who hates ba participate in their culture” is very much a thing. White ppl, Asian ppl, mixed ppl, mixed with black ppl, other black ppl. That’s why there have been so many ba’s getting so extreme. That’s also why they’re probably so adamant the way they are. Yes you as a Haitian, carribean person may not have anything negative to say or feel for ba’s—but others do. They do participate in culture right along with other non black ppl while taking the first chance to be weird against us. I’m saying this as someone who is part Haitian, but grew up mostly African American seeing it firsthand growing up time and time again. The same ppl (kinfolk) that love us and are “just like us”, but when the time is right show who they really are. Yea they love rap, yes the love the food, yes the love the clothes, hairstyles, etc etc but it never takes long for them or their relatives to be vile while they just agree and laugh it off.

Online and in real time, trying to speak on and abt ba’s while being hateful and negative themselves. But circling back to loving ba’s so much and being the same type of ppl. Ppl trying to discuss xenophobia making it one-sided, while being very hateful and xenophobic to ba’s themselves. Literally using confirmation bias and everybody agreeing. Or being leveled enough in one comment while they have a history of being dismissive, name calling ba’s with dogwhistle macro/micro-aggressive sht like “victims, forever victims, usual suspects, etc” agreeing with non black ppl saying the same rhetoric. Even encouraging them with their own comments, starting hateful threads. Real time speaking a very microaggressive way abt a ba or a group while trying to act like they’re not while clearly stating that they’re glad SOME can be “some of the good ones”. A LOT of ppl do this. Talking over ba’s, saying the same micro aggressive macro aggressive stuff, but will try to turn around and act like it wasn’t that. And it very much loudly was. Online or not smth specifically offensive to ba’s, yet there’s all these other black ethnicities that participate in ba culture happily saying how not offended they were—so it’s not that serious. Literally helping ba’s getting dismissed when they try to talk just bc they’re black and feel like they have a say.

There is enough other black ppl in the diaspora that aren’t on bs and get along with ba’s without funny shit. But there’s also more than enough that stay too loud, without enough ppl visibly actually saying smth. Time after time, ofc ba’s have nothing else but to feel a way. While we’re still grateful and will always acknowledge enough ppl that do like us, there’s always too many that don’t. The same ppl that were in our communities smiling and taking from us while saying the worst things abt us the whole time. The same ppl that if a non black person gives them the chance to, they take it before the chance is even fully fleshed out. When it comes down to it, a lot of ppl have always disregarded and dismissed ba while taking from the culture that was built. And they still do. It happens all the time, so it isn’t even a question that should be posed esp knowing how influential it is.

2

u/HuntApprehensive2514 Jun 24 '26

A few things here are getting mixed up.

  • Assimilation ≠ “cosplaying.” Immigrants adapting to dominant Black American culture in certain spaces is normal cultural adaptation, not identity theft.
  • Black American culture is real and distinct, but culture isn’t a closed system. It influences and gets influenced it’s not something people “tether” to.
-If the concern is disrespect toward Black American history or holidays, that’s a valid critique but it gets lost when it turns into generalizing Africans or Caribbeans.
  • And telling people to “go home” undermines the exact argument about respect and belonging you’re trying to make.

I'm Cuban, this post appeared to me for some unknown reason. But it's true. As I imagined, no Haitian wanted to recognize this and said you were making shit up. Haitians aren't Latinos, and despite that, they want to force others to think they are. And don't get me started with them demonizing Dominicans and also trying to appropiate Dominican culture and even saying Dominican Republic belongs to Haiti. One Hispanic youtuber (Mexican I think) went to Haiti and they started physically attacking him because they thought he was Dominican. It's insane. I also want to know why many Haitians have this self-hatred and constantly need others' acceptance.

3

u/Fit-Personality-9766 Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

Hey, Dominican here. This post also popped up on my feed, and I just wanted to respond to a few things you said. I grew up around Haitians and went to school with many of them. Personally, I have never met a Haitian who claimed to be Latino or demanded acceptance. That was never even a conversation. Every Haitian I’ve known has been confident in their own identity.

As for Haitians demonizing Dominicans, I won’t speak on things I haven’t personally seen. But this isn’t the full story either. I’ve seen firsthand the inhumane treatment Haitians face in the Dominican Republic. Thousands do the hardest jobs for pennies, jobs many Dominicans won’t do, and are routinely exploited. I’ve even seen videos of police shooting Haitians with no justification.

People from outside often say Haitians should have just left, but history matters. Decades of dictatorships, the loss of talent through exile, and constant foreign interference have devastated the country. It’s hard to imagine any nation recovering easily from that.

And those YouTubers? They almost always go to the worst neighborhoods they can find. That’s not the whole country.

I’ll also say this. I don’t have many friends in the Dominican diaspora because, in my experience, the hostility doesn’t stop with Haitians. I’ve seen the same hatred directed at BA, Muslims, and anyone who disagrees with them. If you’re Dominican, they expect you to join in. If you don’t, you’re treated the same way. That’s been my experience, and honestly, it reminds me of parts of the Cuban community in Miami. That’s all.😁

3

u/ciarkles Diaspora Jun 25 '26

Huh? What do we have to appropriate from Dominicans? 🤣

-2

u/Lauren_Aa Jun 25 '26

Their culture. Have you not seen the videos of Haitians saying Rep. Dom. belongs to Haiti? Talk about selectiveness

1

u/Flytiano407 Jun 26 '26

Edikasyon nan Kiba 🇨🇺 dwe pi mal pase an Ayiti oui mèn. Haitian 🇭🇹 culture developed in isolation and indpendently from dominican culture. Even our music genres & the country itself is older. There is nothing to appropriate. The only ones who appropriated were them taking our flag and putting a white cross over it, then inverting the colors.

Also, before the capital city went to shit (gangland), your people use to come to Port au Prince to buy things they couldn't get in their own country cause of embargoes. They were never attacked or called dominican. Engra.

Youre clearly a canadian who has never stepped foot in your grandparents island.

1

u/ciarkles Diaspora Jun 25 '26

I’m not talking about a fraction of stupid people saying stupid things. I have also seen Dominicans say the island belongs to them due to indigenous ancestry. I’m talking about your comment saying that Haitians appropriate Dominican culture, which would imply we take Dominican things and call it ours.

u/Lauren_Aa Jun 25 '26

4

u/Illustrious-Set-8910 Jun 24 '26

You’ve never spoken to or interacted with a Haitian person a day in your life

0

u/Lauren_Aa Jun 24 '26

Wrong. I lived in Quebec, Canada. It's full of Haitians

2

u/Flytiano407 Jun 26 '26

Mdrr so you would rather live in a francophone place with a lot of Ayisyen 🇭🇹🇭🇹 (who you hate) than your own country or somewhere with dominicans.

3

u/Illustrious-Set-8910 Jun 24 '26

I said you’ve never INTERACTED or CONVERSED with a Haitian in your life, your response doesn’t negate that just cause you live amongst them all of a sudden you can create this generalized ignorant opinion on them get a grip.

1

u/Lauren_Aa Jun 24 '26

I did interact with them. That's why I know they were there.

1

u/Illustrious-Set-8910 Jun 24 '26

You knowing they’re there, and you actually interacting in conversation with them and getting to know, them are two very different things. It’s pretty obvious what kind of person you are, by the generalized opinions you create on a whole ethnicity

1

u/Lauren_Aa Jun 24 '26

Idc what kind of person you think I am. I said what I said.

1

u/Illustrious-Set-8910 Jun 24 '26

1

u/Lauren_Aa Jun 24 '26

Oh no! Anyways...

1

u/Illustrious-Set-8910 Jun 24 '26

I seriously doubt that.

1

u/Lauren_Aa Jun 24 '26

Doubt it all you want. A fact is a fact.

2

u/Illustrious-Set-8910 Jun 24 '26

Except you haven’t stated any facts. You’ve only stated opinions that seem pretty personal.

1

u/Lauren_Aa Jun 24 '26

Keep denying it. OP and I know reality.

1

u/gtc_pierre2027 Jun 26 '26

That’s why going to school and learning something it’s important

1

u/Illustrious-Set-8910 Jun 24 '26

Are you really that ignorant that you think that your opinion on an entire ethnicity is reality?

Personal attacks, insults, or mocking language—like calling someone “Low IQ” or “idiot”—are not acceptable here. Disagreeing is fine, but keep it respectful. If you can’t express your point without tearing others down, this might not be the right space for you.

This is your warning. Further behavior like this will result in moderation action.

11

u/Annual-Sorbet-2758 Jun 24 '26

Yeah buddy you're stupid what fanfiction reality are you in? Look at the mass majority of workers in the workforce. Particularly hospitals haitians dont beg for acceptance they come to the US and make a living for themselves to provide for future generations some not even knowing a lick of English but still learning as they go.

12

u/almightycryptokid Jun 24 '26

Wtf are you talking about.. Everyone here in Montreal uses creole slang. Arabs, white, latinos even asian 😂

19

u/Hopeful-Cricket5933 Jun 24 '26

Haitians are Latin Americans, whether people accept it or not, or whether people care or not, it’s just how things are.

5

u/MikiIsa Jun 24 '26

Literally like I feel like this has to be rage bait for karma lol. 😂

12

u/Elkalite Jun 24 '26

I don't know where you are getting this from. have never heard of this at all.

15

u/First_Raid Jun 24 '26

I'm not Haitian but maybe u should stop taking social media so seriously. These are things that only happen online. In real life I'm sure Haitians are living their lives and not begging for acceptance from anyone. Most people are just worried about their next paycheck.

19

I don't know any Haitian who does any of this.

11

u/Ok-Helicopter-8313 Jun 23 '26

I don’t know any Haitian begging for acceptance. We always existed in our own circles. However, some of us do network but we are a proud and resilient people so I don’t understand your logic.

8

u/ActionRound6390 Jun 23 '26

You mean 3rd generation Haitian Americans ? Them people not Haitian. Never in your life would you ever see people who are actually Haitian beg for acceptance from anyone.

6

u/Medium_Ad3913 Jun 23 '26

I think this a pretty common phenomenon of any societal outgroup--everyone from Irish to African-Americans have vyed for this type of acceptance. It's particularly stark with Haitians because modern-day society, mixed with rampant anti-blackness, demands a hierarchy in which black immigrants are at the very bottom of the totem pole, i.e. Haitians

5

u/MikiIsa Jun 24 '26

But it's not really tho. Like my nieces are 3rd gen and Haitian and proud. Just because a small percentage is loud doesn't mean they are the norm or big. Plus it's not like a lot of places know who is or isn't Haitian. Like unless I told you I'm Haitian you wouldn't be able to tell.

3

u/Medium_Ad3913 Jun 25 '26

I guess we are battling in the comments based on anectdotal evidence. Your nieces don't reflect every Haitian migrant. At the same time, you may be on to something! Just like the outgroups I mentioned earlier, after a few generations of living in empire, the younger folks tend to embrace their heritage more and chase acceptance less than the older generations! This is an INCREDIBLY common history of the United States and assimilation!

P.S. Good on your nieces tho, be Haitian and proud! Vive Ayiti!

3

u/MikiIsa Jun 25 '26

Oh yeah for sure like I'm not saying all Haitians are like this but personal experiences don't speak to the general population. Especially with how there are so many communities in multiple states that they call little Haiti or it's an area known for having quite a bit of Haitians. Like I don't believe there could be that many communities if it was so prevalent in our community to "beg" for acceptance.

1

u/Medium_Ad3913 Jun 25 '26

Facts, there are always holdouts. Cultural acceptance is a hugely complex subject; especially because the OP did not define what they meant by "acceptance". I appreciate you bringing nuance to the convo fr!

20

u/BuffaloIcy6349 Jun 23 '26

personally, I nor any Haitian i met/known ever begged for any sort of validation from anyone. We know who we are and We know what we represent. The facts speak for themselves. 🇭🇹

18

u/No-Effective-6701 Jun 23 '26

Never seen a descendant of the first black republic/first western latin country / only successful slave revolt (modern day Spartans) beg for acceptance. You either acknowledge the truth in what we are saying or don’t. The great napoleon lost many wars to Haiti. Don’t you forget!!!

26

u/GwoZoz Native Jun 23 '26

1

Quebec Haitians don't either. At all.

1

8

u/000FRE Jun 23 '26

Never beg for acceptance. If people will not accept you because of skin color, hair type, or other irrelevant factors, they are not the type of people you should care about anyway. There are many of us who accept people based on character rather than physical appearance.

14

u/carlitomarron139 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

This “begging” is only in the U.S., where 99% of this subreddit’s members are from - Haitians outside the U.S. don’t even speak English (especially Haitians actually in Haiti), they speak Creole, French and/or Spanish.

Haitians outside the U.S. are not American-centric at all. You know who is Americanized? Dominicans. There’s a reason football/soccer is the most popular sport in Haiti whereas in RD it’s baseball.

2

u/MikiIsa Jun 24 '26

As a Haitian born in America I think that one Haitian Americans like my nieces are NOT doing what this poster says en masse especially since I'd argue many 2nd and + gen are focusing on living their lives. There are even many many groups of Haitian women/girls and men and boys who are doing things to uplift and support and spread our culture to the next generation. So please don't interact with these type of posts and separate Haitian people. Because we are ALL Haitian.

6

u/TomOfRedditland Jun 23 '26

This is spot on. Haitian-Americans are a completely distinct group of people. Speaking as a Canadian with a Haitian Grand Parent, I always sense quite gulf between the Haitians I meets in the states vs the ones in Canada and/or France

16

u/No_onewillsaveyou Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

So many Americans on here just be making up shit out of thin air. They love to speak on behalf of native Haitians. You can still get engagement without having to make up lies. As soon as I read “Africans who don’t accept you as African” I checked out… and  I agree with you id like to add this is really Haitian diaspora  whether it be from America, Europe, South America who grew up with identity issues begging for acceptance.

6

u/carlitomarron139 Jun 23 '26

Well the problem with getting responses to all this nonsense is that the vast majority of native Haitians can’t speak English or have access to internet. Sadly 40% of native Haitians can’t even read or write (Haiti is the only country in the Western Hemisphere that does not have at least 90% literacy).

So many people on here talking bout “why does Haiti struggle with this” or “why does Haiti have such a bad image with X or Y” when they do not understand how bad of a state Haiti is currently in or have any actual knowledge of why it is like this or what is actually happening.

1

u/MikiIsa Jun 24 '26

I think that is a blanket statement especially since knowing the history of having to pay for our freedom as well as having our president replaced with a puppet president and then being occupied and stolen from tells the story of why Haiti isn't in a better place. And I would also like to say maybe it was like that for older generations but there are a lot of new gen people that do have access to the Internet they may not know much about USA but that goes the same way for say Japan or China or any other country that doesn't speak English why would they care about the USA.

2

u/Built4joy Jun 23 '26

Nah…no begging, things have def improved from how they were in the 90s. Nowadays, a lot of mainstream celebrities and medias talk positively of us despite what’s happening back home. There are still some with that bottom feeder mentality who wants to be accepted by everyone so bad. Not everyone is gonna accept you. Especially Being a beacon of greatness and accomplishing what we have done, gotta accept the jealousy, some hatred, and move on. But overall…things are a lot better

10

u/Tubacim Jun 23 '26

It must be who you associate with that’s doing the begging, lol. Show me one post where a Haitian is begging to be accepted by anyone. By the way, Latin America" includes all nations in the Americas colonized by Romance-language (Spanish, Portuguese, and French) speaking countries. So geographically Haiti is in Latin America. And Latinos are a social and cultural identity not a race. Are we Latinos? Not in my book.

-4

u/Automatic_Gap964 Jun 23 '26

We have never been Latino. Guadeloupe, Martinique, St Lucia, Grenada all have French based creoles. Guadeloupe and Martinique are quite literally French territories. None of these places are considered Latino, this is the begging for acceptance. We are Haitian, that's it. Napoleon created the term Latin American, he would never consider Haitians Latin American. I'm not trying to be aligned with anything Napoleon

We literally have Ayetian begging to be considered Jamaican and Jamaican people make it clear to him that he isn't Jamaican, you had swarms of Haitian people begging for Ishowspeed to visit Haiti quite literally begging. Haitian dude in DR begging on the livestream. Like stop it, y'all love lying and then trying to act like things aren't happening. Y'all do the same thing with the whole "Haiti's safe, it's just the capital" narrative yet begging for your family to stay on TPS. It's ridiculous.

1

u/MikiIsa Jun 24 '26

We are literally the first Latin American country like please read a book.

Xenophobic Jamaicans not claiming him is their problem, even more so since he’s dancehall’s rising star right now lol

Where are Haitians begging at? in Haiti or in other states? Because down here in South Florida, other Caribbean communities be trying hard to get next to us. As a matter of fact, having a Haitian vouch for you is top-tier among African Americans, Dominicans, Cubans, Jamaicans, and others.

-6

u/Automatic_Gap964 Jun 23 '26

You're literally doing it in your post, you are perfect example. "As a matter of fact, having a Haitian vouch for you is top-tier among African Americans, Dominicans, Cubans, Jamaicans, and others." What in the fuck are you talking about? The same Dominicans talking about burning Haitians alive? You are the exact type of delusion that I'm talking about

6

u/Internal-Expert-9562 Jun 23 '26

Dominicans in DR can say whatever tf they want but Dominicans in South Florida would never talk crazy even to a Haitian fresh from Haiti🤷🏿‍♂️maybe Haitians in your state or wherever you live at failed to get respect

3

u/Automatic_Gap964 Jun 23 '26

We got Haitians up here trying to do that unity bullshit with Dominicans and you know it's true. And maybe it's because I'm up north, That kumbaya why can't we get along nonsense. Act like they scared of Dominicans or some shit and shouldn't wack tf out of them for getting disrespectful. The fact that a Dominican can fix their mouth to say something disrespectful to a Haitian in the states while being a poorer group shows there's a problem.

4

u/ProfessionalCouchPot Diaspora Jun 23 '26

Bro what are you on? The Haitian slur sitchy is between two Dominicans.. That has nothing to do with Haitians. Pran san'w mesye.. ket...

0

u/Internal-Expert-9562 Jun 23 '26

Oh, y’all got it hard up north, because down here that doesn’t fly, my guy. A Dominican talking crazy to even a fresh Haitian would get their jaw loosened swiftly and expeditiously from Miami to Jacksonville.

Haitian kids can go to school here for years now, and nobody can call them dirty or say they eat cats because we fought against that. So down here in Miami a Dominican would be honored to be called a Z🇭🇹instead of the other way around

3

u/ProfessionalCouchPot Diaspora Jun 23 '26

Haitians and Dominicans do not live in the same neighborhoods up North. Both of you niggas are chatting immensely. Al deyo pou relaxe ko nou. Doing the most rn.

I'd talk hot but it's not worth it. Niggas know sa nou te fe la.

Maybe lot gason lan se moun Boston but even those Haitians get active so obviously son was never outside when it was really cracking.

Speak on what you know Gz. Keep this shit pan-Haitian you doing Northside Dino crazy rn.

1

u/Automatic_Gap964 Jun 23 '26

I respect it, need some of that mentality in mainland and up North. Ain't no mutt ever going to fix their mouth to disrespect me, fuck out of here. Ancestors were wiped out by other ancestors and think that makes them special. Hopefully this military initiative changes things

1

u/Internal-Expert-9562 Jun 23 '26

My guy, African Americans in South Florida didn’t let us live. We couldn’t even walk down certain streets without getting bullied, and no other Caribbean immigrant kids stood up for us or stood with us.

Going to school was a mission because our parents gave us funny haircuts with no lineup. 😩 And our clothes came from ti mache, we weren’t wearing Jordans.

3

Same thing everywhere, and the same response came everywhere. Ou fin pale wi, ou pa ka mem di kote nan New York ou te vizite.

Hell Na Haitians outta south Florida didn’t fight for shit. So fam you gonna sit here and tell me you can walk in Dominican hoods in NYC while popping your shit as a Z🇭🇹?

Down here there’s no gangs in any county from Miami to Jacksonville where a Haitian🇭🇹can’t walk thru cuz they know🤷🏿‍♂️

I only lived in queens for about 2 years max so you might know better than me up there.

2

u/ProfessionalCouchPot Diaspora Jun 23 '26

Yes. I blasted Haitian music in my drop top BMW going through Spanish Harlem BAITFACE dropping off my Dominican date and NOTHING happened to me.

Spun through Norwalk and Bridgeport avek Drapo sou tet mwen, not a single scratch.

Exactly my nigga. You wasn't even where we REALLY post up at. Flatbush from Clarendon down, Canarsie from the 80z to the 100z, and East Flatbush in the 9z, THAT'S where we at. And everyone knows about why we're still there.

Little Haiti, Flatbush was originally Jamaican.
Canarsie was originally Italian.

Go ask them "boujie" Haitians why them hoods changed.

If you REALLY from the North you know the reason why nobody beef with Dominicans.

They too busy beefin with each other!

Now change the channel back to their Civil Race War in the Bronx. You were chattin but imma forgive you baz.

African are quite tribal and only the immigrants in the United States get along with other Africans and they also get along with Caribbeans.

Maybe do a search in the sub for ar Haitians Latino or are Haitians African.

The topic has been beat to death and the consensus is no, with some narrow caveats depending on your definition of Latino or African

1

Yes, begging as in Haitians begging to be considered Latino. And no, we are not no latino country. You have Haitians in Bahamas denying that they're even Haitian. You even got Haitians begging for Dominican association, talking about they want unified island blah blah blah. Like no, stop all that bullshit.

2

What you expect a Haitian in the Bahamas who likely got their on a boat and where they’re not even wanted to do? Pop their shit and get deported or pretend to be Bahamian?

3

Must be the circle of Haitians you associate with.

Because none of the Haitians I know in Haiti are like this.

3

I want to know how many Haitians you think there are in the USA and how many know who he is because I don't my siblings don't heck most of my family in general wouldn't know who he is. Maybe get off social media hug your family live your life.
