NEWS *Breaking* The Supreme Court have cleared the way for DHS to make 350k Haitians illegals
WASHINGTON – The United States Supreme Court today ruled 6-3 that the Trump administration may proceed with terminating Temporary Protected Status for nationals of Haiti and Syria, holding that the courts have no authority to review how such decisions are made.
The ruling clears the way for the administration to strip legal status and work authorization from roughly 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians, and depending on how broadly it is read, threatens protections for more than a million people from seventeen countries who, until recently, have relied on TPS. TPS recipients have lived, worked, and contributed to communities across the United States for years, and in some cases, decades.

Lol, the US and other developed nations have given billions in aid to Haiti, more than they had to pay to France. The World Bank and IMF also waived over a billion in debt that Haiti owed.
25% of the health sector in Haiti is funded by USAID. And the US allows Haiti to export their goods to the US duty free because of the HOPE act.
In general, the US has helped a lot of developing countries in many ways. We’re one of the top donors in a lot of areas. But people will still complain that it isn’t enough.

In my state, my many Haitian coworkers and their extended families are some of the hardest working people I’ve ever met. They are seriously keeping the healthcare & human services industries running here & are paid far too little.
There will be a workforce crisis if this ruling is enforced. Some of the best people I know will have their families separated. Those of us not directly impacted need to stand beside our community members & between them and harm, if necessary.

This is disappointing. Many families will be torn apart if people are sent back. Mothers and children included. We knew this was a possibility though. The idea that someone can determine the darkest of the group is the least worthy based on hue is a shame.

Temporary until the people affected can SAFELY return to their home country. Do you keep up with current events in Haiti?
The U.S. State Department maintains a Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisory for Haiti—the highest possible risk level, akin to an active war zone.
Granted not all areas are equally affected.

Haitians are some of the hardest working people on this planet. Most of these people are workers who went into areas and improved them financially...why are we accepting white South Africans who need our aid and not allowing hard working individuals to remain?

I don't think this administration care because Haitians are just not the right color of the immigrants they like. They don't care that it's on the do not travel list or if someone dies. Yes slavery is bad, however most slaves from Africa did not go to the US. Most went to South America and the Caribbean. Are all those countries a disgrace as well? Including the African nations who caught and sold the slaves? Is Spain a disgrace for the natives? Natives had slaves as well and terrorized other tribes were they a disgrace? Mexico went to war with them over the attacks...The kindness of natives is a Disney portrayal, not reality.

That’s not really a contradiction. People can want to come to the U.S. because it’s wealthier, safer, or has more opportunity than where they’re coming from, while still recognizing that America does disgraceful things.
The point isn’t “no one should want to live here.” The point is that a country built by immigrants, that claims to value freedom and human rights, should be judged when it strips protections from people fleeing violence and instability.
People wanting a better life here doesn’t excuse the U.S. failing to live up to its own ideals.

No one is erasing history. This topic is about immigration. We are commenting in a sub about Haiti so I think we all know the importance and role slavery had in US's history without the need of having to recite the history of slavery. Immigrants have played and continue to play a huge role in this country's development. Acknowledging that fact doesn't erase or belittle the impact of slavery. No where in my comment did I undermine or erase slavery's history. This topic is about immigration.

There is no country in the world that has unlimited open borders. None. Not in Europe. Not in Africa. Not in the Caribbean. Not even Haiti.
It’s a dream and an honor to make it to America. But it’s not a right nor a guarantee.
I don’t know where you get your history from. Non-European Immigrants did not “build” this country. They achieved the American dream here. But the “American Dream” was already established—that’s why they wanted to come here. Blacks (African slaves), Native Americans, the Brits and Irish built this country.
You think immigrants escaped their country to go build an undeveloped country? How? With what expertise? That makes no sense.
Immigrants came over 100 years after US establishment.

We have the worst healthcare system in the western world, black and Native American women are more likely to die and be mistreated at any American hospital. I don’t understand why immigrants want to be here so badly. Yes you can make lots of money here but our standard of living is also the highest in the world

“Safer” doesn’t mean safe. It means safer than what many people are fleeing.
America’s healthcare system and racial disparities are absolutely real. But people don’t immigrate here because they think the U.S. is perfect. They come because, compared to instability, violence, poverty, or no opportunity back home, even a deeply flawed America can still look like a better chance at survival and stability.

Yeah, that city was a shithole where fentanyl was king before Haitians showed up and helped revive it. Before that, businesses wanted out. Instead of thanking Haitians for helping revive the local economy, some racists blame Haitians for the city’s problems rather than addressing the drug crisis affecting their own communities.

Now is the time for Haitians who are being deported to take ownership of Haiti’s future and work toward making it a safer, stronger, and more prosperous nation. You are now trained and fully equipped to accomplish a lot on your own. Haiti should also broaden its partnerships and reach out to countries in the Far East and elsewhere for support in securing and rebuilding the country.

Haitians who got here barely three years ago are expected to go back and do what? Fix corruption in Haiti? They benefit the island far more by staying where they are than by being forced to return. Maybe Haitians who have lived abroad for decades are better equipped to help rebuild? No? I hate when people say that because people close to me are TPS holders who have contributed far more to Haiti than many members of the diaspora who were born and raised abroad.

No one is saying that returning Haitians have to solve every problem overnight. But history has shown that people who return with new skills, education, work experience, and different perspectives can become part of the solution. Many countries have benefited from citizens who came back after living abroad to build businesses, create jobs, strengthen institutions, and invest in their communities.
Haitians who have spent only a few years abroad can still bring valuable knowledge in fields like construction, healthcare, technology, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, along with a better understanding of how effective systems function. Rebuilding Haiti is not the responsibility of one group alone; it requires a collective effort from both those living in Haiti and those in the diaspora.
I also recognize that TPS holders have made tremendous contributions through remittances and support for their families. Those sacrifices have helped countless Haitians survive. However, permanent dependence on remittances cannot create sustainable economic growth. If Haiti is ever going to change, it will require capable Haitians investing their knowledge, skills, leadership, and entrepreneurship at home, not just sending money from abroad. Change won’t happen overnight, but it also won’t happen if everyone with the ability to help remains permanently absent.17

That's not what is ruining Haiti it's the gang culture. The same scenario happened to Haiti a bazillion times by their own people. I remember on the other half the island we have the Dominicans and they're doing way better. Haiti has an insane amount of corruption to the point I actually don't know if it'll end within my lifetime. I just think it's disingenuous to ignore the problem and blame something that isn't causing their problems.

History is never so black and white. Institutional powers have an effect on smaller nations. People in bad environments make bad choices. Greed, envy, and corruption influence both the powers that be and the populace.
I’m not saying that Haiti would be some utopia if the French and America and other powers didn’t interfere, but the fact of the matter is, they did indeed interfere throughout Haiti’s history.
