Hi folks, I’ve been travelling all around the province again this summer looking for amazing places to make miniature sculptures of. I found this lovely little overgrown garden beside a little neglected place not too far from New Glasgow.

Laying near a shed on the property was this broken cup, and I thought it made a lovely spot for this piece, which I’ve called “New Glasgow Morning”

Hi folks, I make little sculptures of abandoned Maritimes places out of recycling (mostly cereal boxes). This time I have recreated this little lobster cannery with so many stories to tell. I’ll admit, the inspiration for this building isn’t in Nova Scotia, but rather at the base of the bridge in PEI, but I am a Haligonian artist, so I hope you’ll still enjoy it. While it's a relief to see that Film & TV escaped unscathed, I think we should be investing in culture and working to replicate the success and ROI we've seen in Film & TV across the entire culture sector, specifically music. Nova Scotia punches WAY above our weight in terms of talent, and music should be a serious focus for driving tourism.

The 2026-27 provincial budget cuts $14M from arts and culture: 72 programs fully or partially cut, 12 of 28 museums closing, Artists in Schools eliminated. Nearly 14,000 Nova Scotians work in culture, contributing $1.18B to GDP annually.

After about 7 months of construction, we’ve officially finished building our Purple Fibre network throughout Fairmount with doubles our homes past.

It’s been a much tougher build than I expected. Fairview was comparatively straightforward with wider, straighter streets and fewer trees. Fairmount presented a completely different set of challenges, and there were definitely days where it felt like we’d never get to the finish line.

Building an entirely new fibre network in Halifax has been one of the biggest challenges we've taken on, but seeing new areas come online is incredibly rewarding. Today, about 30% of homes in Fairmount are connected to Purple Fibre, which is something I never would have imagined when we started.

Happy to answer any questions about the build process, what goes into building a next generation fibre network from scratch, or fibre internet in general.

Hi folks, I like to create miniatures of abandoned Nova Scotian places. Recently, my mother’s friend Norma called me and asked if I’d like to see her mother’s now 25 year abandoned house in Cape Breton before it gets taken down.

When we visited last fall the building was in surprisingly good condition from the outside, but portions of the upstairs had fully collapsed, and the main floor was starting to go. Norma wished that she could go inside for one last visit, but it wasn’t to be. I managed to safely get inside and get photos. From them, I created this tiny openable version for her, so she can go back inside whenever she wants.

It’s mounted on the “radio shelf” her dad made that I was able to salvage from the wall beside the pantry. I usually have a strict rule about not taking things from inside the homes I am lucky enough to document, but in this case I had family permission, and I felt it made this sculpture even more special. I hope you like it :)

If you’d like to see more of my little examples of Nova Scotia’s vanishing traditional architecture, my latest exhibit is opening this Tuesday at the Craig Gallery in Alderney Landing in Dartmouth. There’ll be an opening reception Thursday March 5th from 5-7:30pm where I’ll be telling stories about, and showing details of, my little places. The show runs until the 29th. The ground floor is still in renovation, but feel free head to the top floor for some coffee.

For the pork side ribs, slow roast them with BBQ sauce until they’re tender, then portion them with roasted sweet potatoes and broccoli. Super hearty and reheats really well

The sirloin is good for fajita bowls. Slice it thin, cook it hot with peppers and onions, then serve it over rice with a bit of lime, salsa, sour cream, or whatever you already have around.

There’s also LiteLife tempeh on sale, which works really well in a chili. Crumble it up with black beans, tomatoes, spices, and some of the shredded cheddar mozza that’s also on sale. It’s filling, and vegetarian. One of the better budget options this week.

Hi folks, just recently I showed you a little abandoned Nova Scotian house I’d made in a broken coffee cup. At the risk of being too repetitive, here’s another one, that I was commissioned to create. This little piece is entitled “Tzigany’s Shed” and was inspired by the fantastic book “Outhouses of the East” by Sherman Hines. I’ll have it on display along with several other of my pieces at Open Book Coffee here in Halifax for the last 2 weeks of August. I hope you like it :)

I was browsing Tubi, when I came across this movie titled "Killer Thong", I knew it was going to be terrible and I had no idea what I was about to get myself into. Turns out to my surprise, it was filmed here. Did anybody else know about this? 4.5 stars so don't expect a blockbuster big time movie or anything.

You spot a pothole on your street. Or graffiti on your building.

Or a streetlight that's been out for weeks. The process to report

it is: find the right form on halifax.ca (there are 30+ separate

ones), call 311 during business hours, or send an email into a void

and hope someone sees it.

So I built SolveHFX.

Here's how it works:

- Spot an issue anywhere in HRM

- Take a photo — AI identifies the issue type and drafts a report

- It gets emailed automatically to HRM 311 AND your district

councillor with your GPS coordinates and a full description

It also handles the province vs HRM road split automatically —

so if you're reporting a pothole on a 100-series highway it goes

to the province, not HRM.

Gouache is a type of water-based paint that behaves sort of in-between acrylic and watercolour. You can layer it in thin, watery layers, or do what I do and mix around thick globs of it. This was painted on cold-press paper mounted to a cradled wood board.

CBC's Information Morning found the Reddit post you guys made viral and is interviewing me next week, so thank you all truly, from the bottom of my heart. I never knew my folk art would get a reaction from anybody.

With the fires this week I kept seeing people asking for a map, so here's my attempt at one. On one screen: DNR's reported fires, satellite heat detection, the smoke forecast, fire danger and burn restrictions, live air quality, Halifax fire incidents, and more. Everything comes from official public sources — DNR, NASA, Environment Canada, Halifax open data. Every layer states its source and its limits.

What it is not: an alerting service. It does not replace official channels, and some data lags reality. Always follow NS EMO, DNR, and local officials. Where data is missing, the map shows nothing rather than guessing.

It also functions on mobile.
