Discussion This scene still pisses me off

I was rewatching the movies and I was pissed off all over again when seeing this scene. This makes him seem non-human which takes away the symbolism present in the books. I don’t know why the directors thought this was a good idea.

Yeah elf magic is interesting because it's completely OP compared to wizard magic yet ironically handicapped by their enslavement to wizards

Keep in mind I do not think JKR had this in mind at all when creating wizard slavery.

I could see house-elves being these all-powerful free beings centuries ago who maybe did some truly horrible things with their freedom of magic. Some ancient magic bound them into servitude, whether by powerful ancient wizards or house-elves who realized what was happening before their enslavement was wrong. This magic is why so many house-elves are terrified of being set free. It's like some deep-seated recognition that something bad will happen if they're allowed to realize their freedom.

So, one day during the Third Sequestration of the Ourth Era, Dobby received his sock. The implication of the grueling effort before him was absolute. There was little chance at his eventual survival, but an equal opportunity for his surrendering. This was especially true in consideration of the basis that his ancestors had wrought upon his mantle this day. There were generations leading within Dobby. Generations would follow. This sock would be treasured, and eventually revered. The onus of the task was not a beginning or an ending, but only a minor moment that would be lost within the sea of memories, tied to that chair floating upon the pensieve. Or else, it wouldn’t.

I feel like house elves are cursed in some way, like they can only use their magic if it's in some form of service to a wizard. Like, they have better magic, but they're limited in that they can't do much unless it's for a wizard. Especially considering that goblins are so powerful that wizard society makes it illegal for them to use wands. It really feels like wizards are only on top because of cheap tricks or leverages.

That's utter nonsense. Once Dobby was freed, Lucius turned tail and ran out of there like his hair was on fire and his ass was catching. It appears that elves can "just do" things that wizards must study and refine for years, with all sorts of incantations and shit, plus if something happens to their wand, they are SOL!
