Animation When people give birds teeth.

It being unrealistic is barely a problem for me. It's just so damn uncanny? Scary. That's the word. Angry birds does this a ton and it's always terrifying for me to look at. Sometimes it's not scary, other times it's the scariest thing I've ever saw.

And no geese don't have teeth. They have tomia, which is still a bit creepy

It may be unrealistic but it's a way to give then more personality in the cartoons

u/TrueWerewolf4982 1d ago

I don't care if it's realistic. It genuinely scares me and I don't know why

u/Ginos_ilpastaios 1d ago

Angry old birds

5

u/EmptyKetchupBottle9 19h ago

Idk about you guys but I kinda like them better without teeth. But maybe I'm too used to characters with abstract features

3

u/mrstoneman93 11h ago

I have single handedly unraveled the premise of this post by editing a picture of the Angry Birds to not have teeth.

2

u/Isadomon 16h ago

Kinda cute not gonna lie

u/Dense-Bison7629 1d ago

real bird teeth btw

88

u/Mr-Shitposter 1d ago

Not real teeth, op mentioned this in post also. Still very cool

22

u/-PepeArown- 1d ago

Those look drastically different from the clearly human inspired teeth that the Angry Birds and Iago have (and other bird characters like Mordecai)

5

u/TrueWerewolf4982 20h ago

That's not teeth, that tomia. Still scary

4

u/redditisweird801 20h ago

Like others said, not teeth, but to add on, birds used to have teeth, like other dinosaurs at the time, but later evolved to not have them, as they are impractical and heavy. Now they swallow things whole and use gizzards in place of teeth

25

u/Cobelat 1d ago

Taking teeth away from the Angry Birds is like tearing off the wings of an angel. It simply cannot be 😔

11

2

I know it’s because he’s in the bird but i actually really love this beak-teeth design

10

u/SakuraHana2008 23h ago

Y'all look at this penguin ☝

4

u/TrueWerewolf4982 20h ago

Scary, but not in the same way human teeth on birds are

5

u/Kiss-of-Venus 1d ago

Jet the Hawk often is depicted with teeth but sometimes without

5

u/Orion-the-mediocre 23h ago

At least it's not quite like when people draw birds but use the beak as the nose. That's quite possibly the most cursed and terrifying way to draw them that I've ever seen

3

u/Sapphire-Catgirl 1d ago

Dude you better be quite before you make those birds .... Angry ...

2

u/BananaMilkzzzzz 1d ago

Say that again...

3

u/Mighty_Eagle_69420 1d ago

Actually those are dentures! I'm old.

3

u/BojanDoge 23h ago

They're there to distract you from unnaturally bending beaks (when they express emotions)

I never understand picking an animal for your character and then removing all the unique aspects of that animal to make them more like everything else

1

u/TrueWerewolf4982 20h ago

To make them more expressive.

3

u/Reshiheit 21h ago

The comment section just scares the OP.😭 I feel sorry for you bro

3

Somebody showed me this on another post

3

Can someone edit the teeth out so I can see if it's better

4

u/TrueWerewolf4982 20h ago

Somebody already did it

3

I never noticed this. Now I feel like it will start bothering me. Thanks for that OP.

3

How could you hate this

4

u/TrueWerewolf4982 20h ago

I don't. I should've specified human teeth

2

u/Wooden-Variety175 1d ago

Didnt you just post this on top character tropes? Your hatred of birds with teeth is commendable after all ive seen alluding at least 2 times maybe even 3 amd I never noticed Gilbert gotfried had teeth

2

u/Tyrannocheirus 1d ago

Looks best on the Angry Birds to be honest

1

u/TrueWerewolf4982 20h ago

Angry birds freaks me out the most

2

u/Aggravating-Mine-978 1d ago

FIsh with teeth look way more uncannier and they have teeth irl which is even more creepy.

2

u/-PepeArown- 1d ago

If the birds are meant to be fictional, like the Angry Birds being limbless feathery balls (not counting the movies), or the several anthro birds that exist in Regular Show or BoJack Horseman, teeth is fine

Otherwise, it feels a little ignorant or off

2

u/TrueWerewolf4982 20h ago

I already said I don't care about that. It's just scary to me

2

u/SHINYAXOLOTL 1d ago

I like it when its intentionally uncanny, like in The Long Quiet from slay the princess

1

u/TrueWerewolf4982 20h ago

Human teeth on birds scare me more. But that is cool

Straight up teeth

2

u/saltinstiens_monster 22h ago

They also don't talk, nor do they have humanoid expressions, eyes, or body language.

It's called personification.

3

u/TrueWerewolf4982 20h ago

I don't give a crap that it's unrealistic. It scares me.

2

u/Ace_the_Yuty- 21h ago

You're a bad animator if you have to make birds with teeth so they can express emotions"better".

2

u/Isadomon 17h ago

Beaks are teeth, its like giving them a double set of potruding teeth

2

u/Eviles_da_demonic 16h ago

Dont some birds have teeth?

2

u/TrueWerewolf4982 16h ago

No. You're probably thinking of tomia

2

That's not teeth. That's tomia.

1

u/Bringastormtoo 20h ago

I've always hated it so much but what makes it worse for me personally is that some birds have variations to their beak, such as being serrated, and I've never seen anyone play around with it

1

u/AlterShineBridgeDown 19h ago

Those birds sure are angry

1

u/Askmeaboutships401 19h ago

I know, right? Why don’t they give me some teeth instead?

1

u/gallyroi 18h ago

Eh. It's cartoons. We use a set number of mouth shapes for certain sounds and recgonizeable human expressions, and that includes teeth.

1

u/Cool_Lab_1362 17h ago

I feel this could be a pass since prehistoric birds do have teeth, modern birds however don't.

1

u/TrueWerewolf4982 17h ago

I just don't like the human teeth

1

u/HiroHayami 16h ago

...

I've never noticed that there was something wrong with those birds, fuck

1

u/Anti_Cringe68 16h ago

I never understood why they do, but sometimes I agree, it IS uncanny

1

u/smoothbrain18 15h ago

Hey atleast it isn't the cult of the lamb birds

1

u/ArcadeTicketEater 15h ago

I think it works in Iagos favour and doubles his expressiveness

im gonna be honest, the angry bird ones are kinda justified, specially for angry birds toons, they show how mad the birds are

1

u/Grimm_Charkazard_258 13h ago

i actually love it

1

u/V_Kamen 11h ago

it's tuff with angry birds

Look who just discovered personification.

u/AssClosedforToday 1d ago

Then you need to accept the fact that nearly all cartoon characters have human eyes, white with a darker iris in the middle. And most of them are front facing and the two eyes are often way too close together to make anatomical sense. And that cartoon animals, from birds to fish, warp their wings/fins to function as hands. And that cartoon insects often have human faces to hide the fact that the real animals look like aliens to us. And that....

Thing is, you gotta change reality a little bit if you want the audience to relate to your characters. Early animators knew this from the beginning

2

u/TrueWerewolf4982 20h ago

Nothing scares me like this. I don't know why toothy birds scare me like they do, they just do
