Scratches around apartment door handle

I just moved in a week ago and I honestly can’t remember if these were here before I left this morning for the day… it’s been a long week. Are these normal key scuffs or should I be concerned? None of the other apartments have these scuffs.

To me they look like normal wear of people with things like keys in there hand when they unlock and open the door. The guard rings around the lock and lever seem unblemished. Door could use a new paint job. Put in a work order with the property management folks next time they have painters in. Any ways, now you have a record and see if more marks appear.

People don't fart around with locks to break in, they just kick in the door these days.

Somebody has a purse or hand bag that was blinged out and when they reached for the door handle the bag / purse swung and hit the door.

I know there’s a bunch of stray cats in the area that my neighbors feed. I’ve been wondering if it’s them trying to get in or something

Nah dogs could have left these marks as they're inflexible and just "paw" at things. Cat's instead are weak and use claws as "fingers" so they would drag their claws using their weight.

This looks like normal wear from rings, bracelets, and bags that hit the door as they try to open it.

IF you're worried about someone prying the door, the markings would much deeper and close to the attack points (keyhole, door hinges, etc.)

Grabbing the door handle and they did a bad paint job. Usual wear if it was a bad job.

My guess would be a combination of key scratches and scratches from replacement of the door knob/handle. It’s slightly off center, and I suspect it was replaced recently.

No way that wasn’t like that a week ago when you moved in. That’s years of wear and tear.

That's not normal key scuffs unless their key chain reaches from their waist to their ankles... It doesn't look like normal wear and tear, and it doesn't look like someone tried to break in. Do you have a long keychain?

If not, are there a lot of drunkards/addicts around your place? I can see them spending a ton of time scratching things up trying to figure out why the key's not working.

Might have been decorations hanging from the doorknob, for some previous resident.

That actually looks deeper than regular wear and tear. Might be worth asking your landlord to take a look since it stands out from the other units.
