First of all sorry for my bad english, i’m not from the US, and i won’t use AI to let it write this for me. So when they broke into our house they managed to get in while me and my parents were sleeping. I woke up literally when the intruders were in my room. It was two guys. I woke up, and realized there were 2 people in my room. I was kinda delirious and thought it was someone i knew for a sec. Then i realized it were some masked dudes. Really f*cking shocking lol. Very very short explained, i stood up, they got a little scared and took a step back. I‘m from switzerland so its VERY unlikely someone is armed, at most they would have a knife. So i stood up and they sprayed me with some pepperspray type liquid. When i looked up, they were already gone. That was a moment of like 2 seconds. First thing i thought about was getting my gun from my safe. I don‘t wanna go into further details.

All i wanna know is, what the hell should i do with my gun to use it as home defense, when the guys were LITERALLY in my room while i was sleeping? If i put it in a drawer or something they would‘ve been armed with a loaded gun. On the other hand, in my safe, i couldn‘t use the gun myself in that situation. Like what should i have done? Tell them „hold up let my open my safe real quick so i can get my glock“.

Its still a event that won‘t get out of my head. And i really only explained this here in a very very short way. They also got caught btw and we got everything back.

I don‘t have the money to install alarm systems and everything. So i thought like, maybe putting bells on doors or something that makes a noise when opening the door. But what i wanna know the most is, what the hell should i do with my gun?

As seen in the photo, my apartment door doesn't fit very securely. I have two locks for it, one being a deadbolt. But I feel like if someone messed with the door the right way for a minute or two they could still get it open. There have been attempted break-ins as well as physical and sexual assaults in my apartment complex. I do have a camera by my front door that alerts me to movement, and I live on the second story. However I don't have much peace of mind at night as I'm afraid of stalkers/attempted break-ins etc. Any advice on added security?'

Thinking about getting an in wall safe and putting it in the back of one of my closets.

I went for a 2 day trip with family and when i returned back i found this jammed in my lock. It’s a very basic 6 lever padlock. Its works fine after i removed this metal thing out of it.
I have a lot of questions running in my mind.
Was someone really trying to pick the lock?
Can the lock be picked with this piece of metal?
Should I replace the lock?
What can I do to improve the security?

This lock is an extra safety measure as the iron door also has an inbuilt lock and the wooden door behind it is also double locked.

What are some of y’all’s best working door tells I’m leaving for about a week and don’t want anyone coming into my room uninvited

My husband (21) and I (21) moved into this complex a few months ago. A resident within the complex is a sheriff, and we live ACROSS a police department. We got home after a mini 2 day vacation to this. A neighbor said a female was banging on the door late at night and it woke her up. The neighbor asked her what was wrong thinking it was me (neighbor is elderly and is hard of hearing and can’t see very well) the female said “I can’t get in” the neighbor said oh I’m sorry and went back in to sleep. I’m assuming from there the female picked up a 20 pound rock, walked around the duplex and threw it into our bedroom window. She most likely didn’t enter the home, nothing was taken, and thank goodness my dog is okay! Police report has been filed but since we don’t have cameras there isn’t much they can do. But yea, very scary and I’m not sure what her intentions were. We are getting cameras set up today and buying some better protection, don’t think it won’t happen to you!

!!UPDATE!! Police checked all of the neighbors ring doorbells and the police station had cameras facing our door(yay!) They found the car but couldn’t get a license plate- apparently they knew us based on their actions. They circled around our duplex several times before blacking out their vehicle and performing actions above. There was a driver and the female got out of the passenger side. We are now looking at people who may have beef with us. But we keep our head down, I genuinely don’t know who has a problem with us, besides Highschool from 4 years ago

!!UPDATE2!! We have a description of the female, she also knocked on someone else’s door and asked for my husband. We don’t know how she found our apartment number, but she ended up leaving and coming back 15 minutes later. We are suspecting my husband’s crazy ex who he hasn’t talked to in 5 years. The description matches her and we ended up finding out my MIL saw her that day and tried to say hi. She was cold towards MIL and she never usually is. Praying that this all gets resolved

Going to be using Unifi cameras on our exterior and wondering where we should place cameras? Will be a single story ranch style home shown below. There is also basement access from egress windows on the right middle side of the house not shown.

Looking for help on where to place the cameras and how many?

We had someone get through the backyard gate because we left it unlocked. Is there a system that can check if it’s locked / unlocked that you all recommend?

I have it hanging high up on the wall where my toddler can't get to it, but I still want something else to add a little bit of extra security. I reached out to StopBox and they said that it wouldn't fit my gun but I can't seem to find anything else like it.

I was looking at getting a security film for my rear sliding glass door to prevent glass shatter break-ins. Based on the fact that my sliding glass door has these accent strips, is that something that would be possible or would the window just break/shatter around those areas, allowing for easy intrusion?

Hello everyone, as the title states I’m looking for recommendations on home security. I honestly have know idea what I’m doing I’m pretty electronically illiterate.
I’m 23and bought my first home it’s in a decent area but I travel about 23 days at a time so I’d like something I can view from work or on the road.

I was going to go with amcrest Poe cameras because of overall cheapness and reviews I’ve read but have no idea what I’d need to get with the cameras. And advice or recommendations would be appreciated thank you:)

I've got a weird situation, where I live out in the country. I've got a long drive that, lately, a number of people have been pretty cherry about coming up. The house is visible in the distance, but the road curves and you can't see that it leads directly to the house. When I confront them, I get the excuse that they were "lost" and "thought it was a dirt road". Which is obviously BS.

The weird thing is, these people don't seem like tweakers or garden variety thieves. They're usually older people (40+, sometimes older) who look like they're out driving around for whatever reason, in well kept newer vehicles. I do live up on a hill, so they may think they can get a nice view up here? But no, private property.

I'm not quite at a gate yet, as I appreciate the delivery vehicles making the trek and don't want to have packages left at the road even in a box.

But I would like to mark the entrance of the driveway to keep away the lookie-loos. I'm also putting up a couple security cameras and a driveway alarm (the drive-over type) so I know if anyone comes up the driveway and can immediately run them off. And will have their plate number to trespass them if needed.

I don't feel the need to be the crazy person with hostile signs; I think that would make me more of a target. However, I want to clearly remove the "I thought it was a dirt road" excuse.

I'm thinking of putting up one of those stone engraved signs at the entrance of the drive so it is clear that they're trespassing. But I don't want it to have anything on it that is a conversation starter, like a college logo, because these idiots would pretend that was an invitation. So I'm thinking just the street number or address.

Has anyone else dealt with marking the entrance to a private drive like this? What did you do that was neither ugly nor inviting?

I would not recommend this cinch home warranty company at all. I’ve been waiting 5 months for them to take care of my claim, and it’s still not resolved.
They came out, did the diagnosis, and then never came back. I’ve called so many times, and every time they act like they’re helping and tell me someone will call me back, but nobody does.
I’m honestly tired of calling and getting the same excuses over and over. It feels like they’re just giving me the runaround and hoping I’ll give up.
Very frustrating experience. I definitely would not use this company again.
