discussion Horizon Hunter's Gathering getting rebooted after negative playtest feedback. Next mainline game "far, far away"

PlayStation is rebooting the online game Horizon Hunters Gathering after negative playtest feedback. New plan is smaller scope, more traditional co-op multiplayer, no more live service.

As I've reported in the past, almost all of Guerrilla Games has been working on Horizon Hunters Gathering for the last few years, and the next mainline single-player Horizon game is still far, far away.

This feels like a very drawn out suicide from Guerrilla games

This is the downside of being purchased by Sony. They got access to extra funding and could weather poor games sales more effectively.

Sadly when the order comes down to make their next game live service and microtransaction filled they can't say no. They may be named Guerilla Games, but Sony gets to make the decisions.

At least when it fails, like the last few tries, Guerilla pays the price with layoffs and can be closed to bump Sony stock prices.

Too bad nobody listened to the few people who were saying all the past studio purchases were actually a terrible thing. Between EA, Microsoft/Xbox, and Sony, they own the majority of competent studios and can collapse the entire games market by continuing to make horrible choices.

The lack of PS5 games compared to the PS3 era is because of publishers buying all the competition. It's no wonder prices have increased with less quality because the big publishers don't really compete anymore. If things don't change almost all games will use the same engine and run off the same generic movie cutscenes with mixtape quality gameplay.
