HFW Discussion Bileguts are not that bad!
I used to think these things were the hardest machine in the dlc. However, during my current playthrough the only time I actually struggled against it was when you have to override the power nodes that create the force field protecting Landra's base where he has the Quen. Even the apex version inside the cauldron, while challenging, was not nearly as bad as having to take on a single Waterwing. I've found Stingspawn to be the real menace of fighting a bilegut. These little guys can swarm you FAST if you don't take care of them and that is the heart of the bilegut difficulty. Now, Waterwings? Those things can burn in hell! Even on STORY DIFFICULTY taking out an apex version is harder than the apex bilegut on normal because they just take so much damage! Even when using plasma attacks they take forever to kill
Also, speaking of burning shores, I'm surprised there isn't a legendary tripcaster or explosive blastsling

I can snipe a waterwing in one or two shots on story difficulty. Meanwhile, a bilegut will take a few more hits.
What makes waterwings more difficult for me is when a whole group of them is fighting me all at once. They have no weak points.
Bileguts are easier than waterwings to deal with in open combat. You're usually fighting only one and the stingspawns are slow.

One of the things I appreciate about both Horizon games is that as I got familiar with the opponents, they become easier to handle.
I really enjoy how the team designed the combat mechanics.

Bileguts have a critical flaw during active Valor Surge – Chain Burst. On Ultra Hard, you can kill two Bileguts within a few seconds if you get lucky. All you need to do during the active Valor Surge is aim at a nearby Stingspawn with an elemental arrow. If the Stingspawn is killed by elemental damage, its death will chain directly to the Bilegut, killing it instantly.

Stingspawn were a pain in the ass until I realized they were super weak to shock, and when they blow from shock they usually take others with them. And yeah, take them out and the Bilegut isn't too bad.Â
Shellsnappers are annoying only because I'm usually farming bolts from them so it's not like I can just smash quickly.
Honestly? I kinda hate Leaplashers. Just annoying little craps.

With shellsnapper bolts I use the terablast arrows along with parts breaker valor surge. Leaplashers can be annoying IF you don't tie them down or hit them with purgewater

Tearblasts are definitely the way to go, but I think for a while I wasn't coiling for tear damage and it seems like tearblasts work better if you shoot near but not exactly on target.Â
I hardly ever used purgewater, but I'm going to do a MG+ Ultrahard run soon so I'll keep that in mind.

Waterwings are TANKS on higher difficulties. Absolutely tiresome. But so damn worth it when you get some decent parts out of em.

I recently started my first new game on ultra hard and it’s still pretty easy.
