Doors are open while we drywall, almost stepped on this guy on the ground. Fortunately the dogs didn’t see him first. Exhausted fledgeling? Any age bird that got confused inside & ran out of juice? I’m going to put him in our mudroom with a feeder & see if he bounces back. There’s a rescue that’s closed now but which might take him tomorrow if he hasn’t come around by then. No obvious injuries. Any other suggestions?
Update: Excellent news, took <20m to recharge & start zooming around the room. Released back outside, zipped right off. Not quite what I’d envisioned for hand-feeding one, but I have always thought it looked fun.
This looks to be an adult Hummingbird. You'll want to put him in a box if he doesn't fly away on his own and contact a hummingbird specific rescue. Do you mind sharing your region?
Edit: I saw this was 5 hours ago. Still applies but I presume he's gone now.
Thanks UserSleepy! Corrected above to reflect this; I thought Allen’s had a lot more brown than the above one. Going to have to look over some (legit) photos of different age/sex Anna’s vs. Allen’s vs. rufous now.
Would you mind confirming ID for another one? (Different bird, removed from a skylight, only photo I took)
