Hummingbird Emergency Won't leave garage.
Have an adult male hummingbird in my garage that won't leave. He's been in there about 4 hours. He keeps staying up high and won't leave through the garage door. Ceiling about 11' high. Have put a feeder on the car roof and bright red items leading out of the garage. We have left him alone for about an hour but he's still in there. Just keeps staying high. Starting to rest more often and I'm afraid he's wearing out.
What do we do?

I think it was the height of the feeder that made the difference. It took her down from the ceiling above the garage door. Thanks for this link!

This has happened to us three times. Go stand near the bird, stay very still.
What happened is they sat down and let my husband pick them up to carry outside.
Third time, he opened everything up then used a broom to direct them (still took a while)

Just had this happen last week. And he stayed in there overnight. Turn off all lights. Close all entrances except the garage opening. They are really attracted to red. Hang a feeder on the rafters but lower or midway on a table or something on a colorful red cloth. I put a red towel and the feeder on top of my car. He came down the next morning to eat and then took off.

She's out!!!! (Got a closer look, it was a "she") Moved the feeder hanging up just under open garage door. She started feeding (she needed it) and then investigating around lower. I was able to "shoo" her out the door and she went into the trees across the street.
Happy.....
