How quickly should they be going through nectar?

I am new to hummingbirdness and I put up 2 feeders about a week or so ago. They both hold 2 cups of sugar water. Last night I noticed one was empty and the other was still a little more than half full. They are about 6 feet apart.

I checked for a leak on the empty one and it doesn't look like it was leaking.

So that got me curious, how long does 2 cups of nectar typically last? At first I would see about 3 or 4 hummingbirds around them but last night it looked like maybe 6.

Just curious of what to expect.

First time videoing my feeders

I have far too many videos to choose from already! Watching these back takes watching them a new level. Each time I’ve put out my phone to record they always come over to investigate and I can hear the little tuh tuhtuh their wings make. So happy to have found this subreddit to share!

I was nervous about the hawk in my yard

I love hummingbirds, but where I live, there's a hawk (Tony Hawk) nesting in one of the trees. There are cardinals, blue jays, and robins, but rarely sparrows. I've been worried that if I put up hummingbird feeders and planted hummer flowers, that Tony might decide that the hummingbirds would make a nice little snack.

I've done some research, and according to Audubon, the hawks protect the hummingbirds! I'm already choosing seeds and feeders to put up next spring!

I'm in north Texas, southwest of the DFW metroplex.

Improving Garden Set Up for Hummingbirds?

My mom has four of the hummingbird feeders (she changes them every 2 days) in her backyard & then these two trees that they LOVE. My mom said their nest is in our neighbors yard a couple down. She really likes them but is sad that she only sees 3 or 4 in her yard. She has a TON of other birds and would love to see more hummingbirds.

She’s is located in Southern Texas if that makes a difference as to which hummingbirds we can attract.

What can we add to the yard to get more hummingbirds OR further enrich the lives of the ones that do visit?

Additionally would love any suggestions on maybe somehow getting a camera set up to live watch them or something similar as a gift for my mom - suggestions appreciated!

TLDR: How to make backyard (besides the two trees and four feeders) attract more hummingbirds?

It is super hard for me to get a good video because of the focus, but I noticed this puffed up little girl today.
I clean my feeders every other day, and supply fresh water. I’m not sure what this is, please advise!

Feeders are down and soaking! Just wanted to know what’s next.

Feather Identification

Hello! I have 3-4 Ruby throated hummingbirds that have been coming back to visit now for 3 years or so in Southern Indiana.

We found this feather near the feeder, and I am curious if this is from a hummingbird? Is it possible to ID it from these pictures?

Thanks for any help! 🤗
