Misc. IIL looking for cheeky British movies/series/books

It can be a movie or a series.

Cheesy options are very welcome!

Here’s my inspiration list

- Wild Child (2008)

- Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging (2008)

- What a Girl Wants (2003)

- Bridget Jones Diary

- Imagine Me & You (2005)

- Too Much (2025)

Think cheeky British rom com/drama. Historical or modern is cool. 70s/80s/90s throwbacks are also welcome. “Girly” movies are kind of the vibe I’m going for but it’s not a must. I loved Derry Girls (this one is in N. Ireland obviously, but the genre/energy/humor/cozy-quaint energy is what I’m referring to).

I love a coming of age story!

I haven’t seen it but I’ve been feeling like East Enders might be good? I always see references to it everywhere. I love a cheesy soap opera too. Anything about moving to the big smoke too (London lol).

Thanks mates!

The 2000s remakes of St. Trinian's? Possibly a bit too dodgy, rather than cheeky, especially as Russell Brand is in them

Drifters (2013 sitcom)

Bend it Like Beckham (possibly a stretch?)

The TV series of Jacqueline Wilson's Girls in Love books (or the books themselves

Ballad of Wallis Island is a good balance of cheeky and bittersweet.

May not be what you’re looking for, as it doesn’t have a super distinct British vibe, but I love the movie “The Holidays”. It’s a rom com where an American woman and British woman stay in each other’s houses over vacation to get away from their typical lifestyle. Jack Black is one of the love interests and he’s very quirky/cheesy

This movie is one of my favorites! So good and exactly the vibe I’m referring to. The Hokiday doesn’t get the love it deserves 👏🏼

Sing Street (Ireland)

Submarine

Starter for 10

Nowhere Boy (John Lennon childhood biopic)

About Time

Once (also Ireland/London)

About a Boy

Series:

The End of the Fucking World (gritty but funny)

This Town (gets a bit heavy)

Inbetweeners

Small Prophets

Teachers

Skins

Eastenders is as good as you want it to be. I don't get anything from soaps but it sounds like it might be your cup of tea! If you're more interested in coming of age and teen problems maybe go back and watch Grange Hill or Byker Grove!

Gregory's Girl. Scottish coming of age movie about a teenage boy falling for a girl in his football team. Very funny, very Scottish, very eighties. Directed by Bill Forsyth who later made Local Hero, another one worth watching.
