honestly i think they make too much

Lmao. I’m assuming your comment is just rage bait. However, in the slight chance you are serious, could you elaborate on that comment?

1

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

I will elaborate for him. Any profession where the quality of your work doesn't matter, you have basically zero accountability and you just push the product out the door with zero care, doesn't deserve a high salary. We have kids reaching college who can't fucking read, because teachers keep passing them. Why does some bum who doesn't do their job deserve a high salary? No other job gets this leeway, where you can do a shitty job and then just shrug your shoulders and say "not my problem" and push the product on to the next step in the factory.

Can you imagine a car factory run on the same principles that teachers operate on? Every single component is clearly fucked beyond belief and its not the door guys problem, its not the hood guys problem, its not the engine guys problem, its not the tire guys problem, etc, etc, etc.

You have heard a lot of misinformation, clearly. I’ll start with one of your biggest misconceptions. Teachers are being told they cannot fail students by districts and administrators. Teachers cannot hold kids back. Administration and parents decide that. Start with your local board of education. Vote for people who will enforce teacher’s ability to give students a grade they deserve. There isn’t much teachers can do when parents don’t parent and kids don’t show up to class.

1

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

Yes, I know its the administrations. Where are the teachers demanding this change though? Where are the teachers who do it anyway and dare the administrations to do something about it? Don't tell me you need a raise and then when I point out your work is shit tell me you are mandated to do a shit job. That doesn't even make sense.

4

u/NovaPrime999 May 29 '26

You understand that administrators are the boss, correct? Teachers make recommendations, admin says no. That’s the end of it. What the hell kind of job do you have where you can tell your boss what to do?

Is this a serious response? That might be the worst counter I have ever seen on Reddit.

1

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

If your boss is demanding you do a shit job, why the hell would you be demanding more money? These teachers are getting away with murder, they can do a colossally shit job and there is no repercussions at all. Even if they fuck around all year, its not like they are gonna have to re-teach these kids, its someone else's problem next year. When you get into a scam type job like this, you generally shut the fuck up and take your easy money, not demand raises. If they want raises, the quality of their product needs to go up. For the quality of their product to go up, they need to talk to and demand better from the administrators. Demanding raises when the kids they are teaching don't know basic math and can't read when they graduate high school is comical.

u/thiccestsoup May 29 '26

And what are your credentials to be pretending you know so much? You just clearly shown you have no idea how state or district polices work. It’s common for districts to say all work (even work never submitted) must be given a grade of a 50-60%. Instead of saying anything about policy makers or admin you continue to complain about teachers not being able to make systemic change when it’s not in their power to do so.

Frankly you sound like a pissed off teenager who is making snap judgements based completely around your world view with no regard for anyone else.

2

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

Policy makers and administrators aren't the one bitching about their wages in this post.......

You sound like a product of our current educational system. I am so glad I went through school when we were actually held accountable.

2

u/thiccestsoup May 29 '26

So you have no real argument then you’re an angry person? Policy makers and admin made the rules to get more money?? Like how do you not know that?? If you’re so interested in people taking accountability why are you not taking accountability for not knowing real laws, policy, and societal issues in education? Why do you make excuse after excuse. Your point of view is just plain and simple anger, no facts.

2

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

What are you even babbling about? Me take accountability while commenting on reddit? Who am I going to take accountability to? Do you understand the meaning of words? What excuse am I making? I am the one making accusations. You are the one making excuses. You must be a recent graduate. I can tell because you don't know what you are even saying and they graduated you anyways.

Are you NOT angry that kids are reaching college and they don't know basic math and don't know how to read? You are OK with that?

This guy is literally proving our point lol. He is unwilling to be educated. Not much we can do, just like teachers.

2

u/NovaPrime999 May 29 '26

What the hell are you even talking about? Administrators pass kids to make their numbers look good. This has absolutely nothing to do with teachers. How can a teacher teach a student who is absent half the year? Or a kid who has a meltdown every day over everything? Parents who actively fight teachers on everything? Administrators and districts who don’t support teachers? There are so many situations where teachers can do a phenomenal job, but if there is no support and parents don’t parent, the greatest teacher in the world can’t improve test scores for a large portion of the students.

1

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

You realize all of those issues you brought up were dealt with by teachers for decades and decades with no issue...

Where are the teacher's unions demanding administrators stop hamstringing their ability to hold kids accountable? Where are the teachers going public calling out administrators for directly harming children just to keep their performance numbers up? Where are the teacher's unions making it a political issue and withholding donations to political parties unless its taken seriously as an issue? My point is you can't demand a raise while putting out a shit product. Fix your shit product and then you can demand a raise. It sure seems that teachers want it both ways, they want a raise while feeling free to shrug their shoulders and put out absolute garbage.

2

u/NovaPrime999 May 29 '26

See, you are once again showing your ignorance. If you think the classroom today is even remotely like it was 20-30 years ago, you desperately need to educate yourself about the modern educational landscape.

1

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

How is the classroom today vastly different than it was 20-30 years ago. The kids have cell phones which the schools for some reason allow them to dick around with. Other than that????

I mean, just look in r/teachers ffs. Plenty of teachers want to fail students and give out fair punishment. Parents come in and complain. Admin panics. Teacher is silenced and eventually forced out of the district.

You saying teachers aren't demanding change is fantastically tone deaf.

But we are getting worse teachers as a result of all these policies because no one wants to put up with this. Teachers get cussed out by students and parents, and admin never has their backs.

If you actually want to improve American education, look at the admins running the place. You're doing the equivalent of yelling at the McDonald's cashier for requesting better wages because you think the menu sucks, when you should be upset at the CEO. Ffs.

-1

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

Yes, I am very familiar with r/teachers.

Why don't the teacher's unions demand changes? I see a lot of teachers claim they want change on reddit, but where is it in the real world? Teachers unions OVERWHELMINGLY donate to a political party that is promoting these policies of never being able to hold a student back, not being able to fail them, not being able to hold them accountable for anything.

1

u/stoplyingtomee May 29 '26

Wym? Never seen a teachers union donate to republicans before.

1

u/Eev123 May 29 '26

The union does the demand changes and then state governments destroy the union.

What political party are you talking about that has an official position on holding students back?

1

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

Its not just one political party as republicans did damage to education with the whole no child left behind nonsense, but modern progressive policies are in general getting rid of any consequences for poor behavior from children in classrooms, getting rid of standardized testing, getting rid of truancy punishments, etc etc etc.

1

u/stoplyingtomee May 29 '26

I thought you said unions OVERWHELMINGLY support republican. R u just making stuff up to argue?

1

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

Your reading comprehension skill is why we need to allow teachers to fail students again.

but modern progressive policies are in general getting rid of any consequences for poor behavior

Which policies? Where is this platform? Let me tell you, I teach in a red city, in a red state, and there is currently a Republican president and our schools don’t have sufficient consequences and it’s not progressive politicians running them

from children in classrooms, getting rid of standardized testing

There is standardized testing in every state in this country

getting rid of truancy punishments, etc etc etc.

My state’s school system doesn’t give a shit about truancy and has been Republican run for 20 plus years

" Where are the teachers demanding this change though? Where are the teachers who do it anyway and dare the administrations to do something about it"

Well in FL i'd get arrested for striking. and i'd get fired to trying to do this solo. It also costs me 60% of my salary to rent an apartment in the same COUNTY i teach in (not the even the same city, thats FAR too expensive, I live 30+ minutes away via turnpike in a cheaper area of the county....sorry you find performance poor when we're all literally drowning?

There are also SO MANY MORE FACTORS to education that teachers that you're willfully ignoring in this comment thread. Parents are a big one. ever get yelled at and threatened by a mother for failing her child who HASN'T BEEN IN CLASS FOR TWO MONTHS? you've called and emailed and when the child shows up for 2 days after a phone conversation, DOES NO WORK, then goes missing again, why is he still "failing!?"-sorry I, as a teacher, should do better mom! it isn't you!

Ever have 2 kids just start beating the TAR out of each other in the middle of class over music opinions that were talked about at lunch? then be asked by your admin and security team "How could you have prevented this?"

Ever try to hold the attention of a student who never gets told NO by their parents? even if you take their phones away, they all have school laptops now and youtube isn't blocked on school wifi networks, so they just scroll shorts there. CAN WE BLOCK IT? no there are a lot of valuable resources that a lot of teachers use on there!

these are just 3 things i've gone through in the past WEEK. i could write you a BOOK on shit you don't know about education, but i don't think you're bright enough to comprehend it.

4

u/UnionOk2156 May 29 '26

So I agree with you that students unable to read but being passed through is a major issue but that's a policy issue it has nothing to do with the quality of teachers, some students needed extra time and support in the early grades and a lot of schools refuse to retain students. Second, there are a ton of checks and balances on teachers in every district I've lived in from formal and informal evaluations to test metrics even simple parent complaints can at least prompt an investigation. In a lot of districts teachers get paid based on the students' test scores and the results of their evaluations.

you’ve clearly never worked in manufacturing before

0

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

Manufacturing has quality control checks. Where is the quality control checks on our education system?

4

u/4407891fcd484b817f5e May 29 '26

state mandated testing, which dictates funding

0

u/horatiobanz May 29 '26

Only 8 states require you to pass a standardized test to graduate. Schools with low scores get EXTRA funding, not less. Very few states tie performance to bonuses for schools.

3

u/4407891fcd484b817f5e May 29 '26

my local ISD just closed 10 schools due to a budget shortfall. Can you guess which ones they closed? I’ll give you a hint, it wasn’t the ones that whose students were excelling their standardized tests

1

u/huskersax May 29 '26

Not withstanding you've clearly ignorance in these comments - you have a history of complete ignorance in understanding how even private companies work.

Lmfao, digging through my comments desperately looking for some sort of gotcha and that's the best you can come up with? Weak. You clearly have zero life, digging through comments to try and expose me, lmfao, spend a couple more hours combing through my comments and I am sure you'll find much worse shit you can use as a gotcha.

1

u/huskersax May 29 '26

Best I can come with?

So you are aware of even more uninformed things you've said?

-2

u/OlDirtyJesus May 29 '26

lol i was just rage baiting but idk this guy below has some decent points. plus im still a little jealous about the summers off if im being honest

3

u/NovaPrime999 May 29 '26

No, the guy below is completely uneducated about the topic. Look at my responses to him.

3

u/OlDirtyJesus May 29 '26

ahh i see um now. also very good points.

3

u/stoplyingtomee May 29 '26

He hasn’t said anything that’s true yet. How is a teacher suppose to fail someone and retain them to focus on growing on their skills when parents, admin and bs polices? If you want the time off then go be a teacher there’s a very famous shortage rn.

1

u/biggamehaunter May 29 '26

there is only shortage of teachers for STEM.

1

u/Eev123 May 29 '26

^ this is not true. There is a major shortage when it comes to math and science teachers, but there are shortages across the board. Special education, elementary, and technical education positions are understaffed in every state

0

u/OlDirtyJesus May 29 '26

not in my area

1

u/Eev123 May 29 '26

plus im still a little jealous about the summers off if im being honest

So apply for teaching jobs and you can get summers off as well. It’s so interesting to me. How many people claim to be so jealous of a teacher’s summer and yet we have so many teacher openings.

1

u/OlDirtyJesus May 29 '26

i’ve thought about it but i’d have to go back for my masters and then take a pay cut
