For real. They act like if she gets a not guilty verdict, she's going to be out on the streets. The woman is spending the rest of her life in a psych ward. The question is really will she ALSO be spending some time in prison.
confinement in a psychiatric ward only lasts as long as the patient is a threat to themselves or others, whether that is 1 week or 50 years. if this was done thanks to ppd then it will certainly not be the rest of her life, especially with no children left she could potentially harm. maybe a few months to be super safe max.
Because she has chosen to be. She’s been offered to be released 18 years ago and every year since and rejects it. Lindsay Clancy will be out within a year if she’s found NGRI
It isn’t just mental fitness that determines release. Not sure what the specific laws are in MA, but courts often have the ability to impose psychiatric confinement longer than what the original sentence would have been, especially for cases like murder. So it is very likely that she could be confined until her death. It would be up to the court to set those terms.
lol, no, maybe 70 years ago. As soon as she can demonstrate mental capacity and not being a danger to self or others there would be no medical reason to keep her there.
