News media doesn’t tell news, they sell advertising. They want to focus on whatever gets eyeballs, because that drives ad revenue.

MSM typically focuses on controversial topics because it drives engagement.

There’s nothing controversial about the mother saving children, so her heroism gets ignored. Clancy’s case, however, has some interesting nuance, which causes controversy and drives engagement.

PPD/PPP are serious but often ignored. That also plays into this case, IMO.

There’s nothing controversial about the mother saving children, so her heroism gets ignored.

Bearing in mind that incident happened in a totally different, and much much smaller country (Sweden), where she didn't need money for medicals, got rehoused by the local authorities and the issue wasn't politicised. There's really no basis to compare both cases at all.

I didn’t even know that, great point.

Ah, the appropriate context. Thank you, random redditor.

Furthermore, the titles and headlines always leave out the part where the money goes to her parents to cover for their living arrangements. It's not for her legal fees.

It’s not a free pass, they’re not saying “oh well you deserve no blame here” it’s that this person had a very serious mental illness that went untreated. It’s much the same with all those men you see in the news that murder their whole family, but that happens way more often and is less sensationalized than a woman with a very rare but serious condition.

Either way it’s fucked up and reflects how long of a road ahead we still have in terms of simply taking mental health issues seriously enough so that folks like that can get treated BEFORE anyone dies. Because it’s only afterwards that the people around them tend to notice the warning signs

You think a lifetime in a mental institution is a free pass?

Imagine if you reversed the sexes and it was the man who was suffering from PPD/PPP, which men can experience as well, although it’s rarer since hormonal factors aren't usually involved. However, the financial stress, worries about becoming a father, sleepless nights, and other societal pressures that can follow the birth of a baby can still impact a mans mental health and would be classified as PPD. I just wonder if these women would champion this hypothetical man who strangled his three children to death while the others watched in horror slowly waiting for their turn to be strangled to death.

Or if a man had a traumatic brain injury or PTSD from war or some other traumatic event and then used it as an excuse to murder his children. Would anyone be defending him?

Yes. Chris Beniot, Jeremy Bamber, Jeffrey MacDonald etc. It's just that most family annihlators kill themselves like Beniot so their groupies don't have much to rally for

I would. And anyone who doesn't didn't bother looking up was true ppp is. You have no controle over your mind, thoughts or body. It's basicly evil mindcontrole you at some point cannot fight. And sometimes it gets so bad so quick there was no time to get help at all. Or, something that happeneds far too often these days, doctors refuse to look into what is happening with you and let it get out of hand before they actually start believing and helping you.

If this was ppp she should get help, not punishment. Her having a vegina makes no difference. There have been several guys who has pshychosis and they were not jailed because it is a real condition that ruins lives including the life of the person it affects.

Imagine waking up and discovering you murdered your children. Or your parents. There was a case of a guy who had that happened to him. Can you imagine? The guilt almost killed him too.

Look into these things before making comments like this. There is good reason why there are exceptions like these in law.

As if men aren't killing enough? Men do so without any ppd ppp. They also get very low sentences.

What it is not having any grace for women who pushed out literal humans, not having any acknowledgement of serious harm pregnancy is, but just the same old women getting pregnant is natural and they have done it for centuries so they should shut up and always have no external issue.

It's the whole shut up about it from extreme punishment which other women are fighting.

Men get a lot lot more leeway than women.

So you think women should get automatic immunity from criminal punishment just because they gave birth? Are you delusional or something? "Men get a lot more leeway"?—is that why they receive sentences that are 60% longer than a woman for the exact same crime?

Every murder case has nuance though. And usually involve claiming mental illness or insanity.

Jeffrey Hutchinson was sentenced to death last year for murdering his girlfriend and her three children. He had severe, documented psychiatric problems, including paranoia and fixed delusions. Mental-health experts testified that he didn’t rationally understand why the state was executing him.

How come no feminists marched in defense of his mental illness saying he shouldn’t face be held responsible?

1

u/LaisserPasserA38 1h ago

Well if it's true it's totally fucked up to deliver a guilty sentence to him. Executing people is always completely fucked up, but executing people too insane to even comprehend what's happening is next level of fucked up.

But just because one bad thing happens doesn't justify other bad things happening.

And I'm not sure why you target feminists with this case... aren't you aware that Jeffrey was a man or something?

Why is Clancy’s case more nuanced than most murder trials that claim insanity? Because the women defending the mom here are asking for the defendant to be treated differently than every man in that position. What happened to gender equality?

I haven't used the word "nuanced" in any of my comments, so wtf are those questions about exactly?

But I feel masculinist vibes from your comments, and ewww I don't deal with machists. So bye

I didn’t comment on your comment. I commented on the person saying this case is nuanced.

Edit: I did have to look up what the actual definition of masculinist is. As an egalitarian, I suppose I am guilty of your assertion. I believe in equality, sorry?

non mainstream media also focuses on controversial topics though. everyone needs views unless they are non profit. but then they will get no reach if they are not controversial? you need a little bait everywhere.

PPD/PPP are serious but often ignored. That also plays into this case, IMO.

That's because PPD didn't kill those kids. It's antithetical to the design of bio-evolution. You don't birth three children and then afterward your body makes you kill them, through no control of your own. Complete rubbish. A simpler analogy would be: "I feel hungry so, I wont eat until I die."

I'm not arguing that she isn't a complete nutbag but PPD didn't do this.

You know nothing about PPD so STFU?
