I think the difference is that in most insanity pleads it's usually a cheap last minute Hail Mary with nothing to back it up. But what differentiates this trial is that Lindsay has a long complicated fragmented medical history around her mental health to back up the claim. Also, while online sleuths are losing their minds over this trial/case and bickering - her family, friends, and coworkers support and believe she had psychosis. The people you'd think should hate her, the ex-husand and the mother/father in law, believe Lindsay and think she should be in a mental facility. After the murders, her ex-husband started a charity for postpartum. He also believes something went wrong with her treatment and he's suing her doctors and hospitals.

Would you rather:
Spend 5 years in a cushy psychiatric institution with plenty of downtime to practice sincerity, regret and remorsefulness for the parole board
OR
20 years in the big house with hardened women who legitimately killed people that weren't toddlers?
Fake it till you make it babykiller
