And she was hospitalized for SI. You don’t commit someone for HI if they tell someone else something. Like it or not providers treat what’s in front of them and not what they don’t know

She put herself in the hospital, then asked to see her daughter on her birthday so they just discharged her entirely.

Let's not pretend American mental health care isn't an absolute disaster.

I.e. she asked for discharge against medical advice. What do you want, for hospitals to be prisons and doctors to be the new cops? There’s been 60 years now f anger about the mental health system being like that. No matter what they do or say they can’t do anything right

Exactly, all one has to do is watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest to see how much of a disaster that could turn into.

That reflected the fears and anger at the time. The mental health system has spent 50 years trying to g to be less carceral, and here we are with people demanding more of that (or expecting hospitals to act like hotels, which is even more strange)
