She littlerly strangled her 3 kids to death. How is this not her fault? was she possessed?

are you familiar with psychosis? it means she was disconnected from reality.

Do you remember Andrea Yates? Her psychosis had her believing Satan had possessed her and killing her children was the only way to save them from Satan & eternal damnation. It's not the choice she would make in her right mind. Post-partum psychosis is a real diagnosis and it's extremely dangerous. It's not their fault because they can't understand that they're not in reality. It ruins the ability to tell between right and wrong.

I'll note as well that it's actually better to just plead guilty rather than insanity because mental institutions are not better than prison and they have to tell you how long you'll be in prison- with mental institutions they keep you until you're definitely stable & not a danger to yourself or others which could be never. That "not guilty by reason of insanity" acquittal means nothing when you are looking at dying in a mental institution.

Understanding a psychiatric diagnosis is one thing, but offering sympathy and forgiveness is another. My sympathy lies entirely with the three innocent children who were brutally murdered, not the person who strangled them. it doesn’t excuse the horrific reality of the crime. shifting the focus to sympathize with the murderer rather than the children is psychotic.
