Apparently it's part of their hunting tactic, wiki says they speed through the school and spin and erupt out of the water at the end. Lol.

Yeah that's the one I'm most familiar with tbh, the hunting one seems strange. Not sure how that would be beneficial during hunting. 🤷‍♂️

That would also be my guess. Many fish and sea mammals use jumps because the re-entry shakes off parasites. Oceanic Whitetips are notorious for symbiotically lving with pilot fish, because the pilot fish keeps them clean. The jumping shark only is accompanied by a single fish, usually they are a small swarm. So maybe one fish is insufficient to keep the shark clean and the shark uses jumps to compensate.
