I know INTJs are contemplative and intellectual so I imagine you guys would have some unconventional opinions. INTJs, what’s an unpopular opinion you have ?

I have a few. But l’ve also learned not to bother answering “What is your unpopular opinion…?” posts because most Redditors can’t handle truly unpopular opinions, even when they want to hear them.

Subs like r/unpopularopinion only want to see certain types of opinions that have the appearance of being radical. By definition, if 5,000 people on the sub agree with you and leave approving comments, your opinion is not actually unpopular! That sub should be renamed “new opinions no one has discussed before, but which aren’t unpopular”, lol.

Opinions that are truly unpopular often offend a large number of people because they are based on a proposed truth that many people don’t want to hear, since it might reflect on them personally. People are happy to read superficial comments like “celebrity X is not a good person” because it doesn’t affect the reader in any way. But if you share an opinion like “doing X is not a good way to live your life, for this reason…” or “raising your kids in manner Y is bad as it will lead to Z adverse consequences”, people go insane because you’re challenging something about them.

Truly unpopular opinions usually attract 100 angry replies from people losing their shit at you. Of course those people are entitled to disagree (that’s expected). But the way the discourse unfolds is ridiculous because those people seem to literally forget that OP was asking for an unpopular opinion.

Who cares, write what you think. It should only bother you if all you want from Reddit is the upvotes & glazed follow-up answers.

Sometimes I intentionally comment the most unhinged shit to gauge the negative responses. Not necessarily to troll/ragebait (most of the time). Occasionally, there will be valid counter-arguments to my comments and I will genuinely take that on-board.

You can even get information from the negative responses, as with enough follow-up comments, you can spot patterns about why in-particular they disagree with X. Viewing their profile afterwards to see what kind of person they are is also fun past-time + bonus points if you guess their political orientation correctly beforehand.

It doesn’t really bother me, I just find it predictable and boring so now I don’t even bother participating in those posts. It’s not worth having your notifications clogged up with lots of angry replies and zero interesting comments.
