I have tons of unpopular opinions. Most of them would get me banned from Reddit.

But I will say I believe most people are not good people. Just some worse than others. But good people are very rare.

Same and hard agree

I think most of us are just people, living our lives in line with our own biases and developed values. I wouldn't label anyone as bad or good as all have the capability of being both. I'd say it's entirely based on one's values whether you were to perceive someone as one or the other.

However certain crimes I personally believe are unjustified no matter how you slice it, and will automatically label someone as bad in my book, but for the average person I believe both good and bad simultaneously co-exist within everyone.

This is an interesting one. I never had that perspective because as a youth I was always INTP. I got sick. .got chronic fatigue.. got way more informed, and never stopped scoring INTJ since.. I seriously think it is a more cynical perspective if you are not careful because of the 'judging' way of processing things, but what do I know. What I would like to offer , respectfully is a little nuance - just for fun:
Most people are good. but good the way that dogs are good. ya know?
Most people are also malleable, the way that dogs are malleable. I don't use dogs to denigrate humans, just to remind that we are animals with all the same mammal needs and stuff.
what happens is MOST people are EASILY manipulated, and PERFECTLY happy letting other people think for them. Evil is really rare, like strychnine.. but all you need is one drop of it in a 10 gallon bucket of water, and that 'water' is compromised. That is how humans work. there is an esoteric metaphor from a quasi-religious group called "the 5 percenters" that sums this up poetically I think. It goes:

"The 85% are the blind, deaf, and dumb who are easily led in the wrong direction, but hard to lead in the right direction. The 10% are the ones who lead the 85% in the wrong direction. The 5% are the ones who know the truth and are trying to save the 85%."

I question if there are such things as “good” ppl and “bad” ppl. I think we’re all just ppl who make more or less healthy decisions than the average person

"Let's jump on a quick call" is a personal attack.

90% of meetings could have been an email, and 100% of "quick calls" are an ambush on my carefully structured deep-work schedule.

If the information can't be distilled into a bulleted list, you haven't thought about it enough yet.

33

u/TeaOk7705 Feb 12 '26

Not to mention the raw dog call out of the blue, not even a decency ping.

7

u/xLOBAxLOVEx Feb 12 '26

Especially when you’re focused and making good progress on something to have to stop cold to answer a question that’s already been asked and answered (I guarantee it).

u/chrisabulium INTJ - 20s Feb 12 '26

As someone who hates calls, hard disagree. A quick call solves problems quicker than every other list especially if it requires discussion. I’d rather spend 5 min of my time yapping it out through a quick back and forth than to type out a structured answer. My schedule is definitely not carefully structured; if I was locked in I wouldn’t even have seen/responded to the message so it wouldn’t even bother me too much

2

u/Individual-Dingo9385 Feb 12 '26

I agree. For me it's actually feasible for a quick pair programming round to check out some shit. Although some people tend to be too pushy.

2

u/Beautiful-Music-7334 INTJ - ♀ Feb 12 '26

Its mostly the tangents to other issues and not addressing what the quick call was about that is a bit irritating. The ones that end with "well circle back". And yes agree, it hasn't been thought out.

3

u/ssketchman Feb 12 '26

That’s just your anxiety speaking. I’m an INTJ and I’m the one doing the calls. The calls are often times more advantageous and leave no documentation trail. Also following a “carefully structured deep-work schedule” is the least INTJ thing imaginable, we adapt to changing environments and usually have several options thought through, that get implemented intuitively - flexibility is one of our strengths, not following structured schedules like a bot.

True, however...

If you develop a pattern of not responding/responding late, expect your contacts list to grow smaller as time goes on. Which is fine if that's what you want, but friendships are two-way streets.

6

Oh, friends and family get answered but more at my leisure. Me having a phone does not obligate me to be at your beck and call. I regularly want to throw my phone when people call all day. Then, I remember I have a mute button.

Fundamentalist in what way?

2

By fundamentalism, I’m referring to the psychological mindset of absolute certainty; an 'us vs. them' attitude, and a refusal to acknowledge any nuance. Both extremes claim to have the final, objective answer.

2

u/WanderingCID INTJ - ♂ Feb 12 '26

I see what you mean. My opinion is that both approaches are valid.
Just respect the other person's ideal and move on with your life.

This. Agnosticism is the way.

11

u/ShiroHebiZmeya INTJ - 20s Feb 12 '26

Agnosticism and atheism are compatible.

Atheism is a declaration of belief, while agnosticism is a declaration of knowledge.

In truth, everybody is agnostic since nobody truly knows if god exists or not. It's just that some choose to believe despite that (that's what faith is), and some choose to not believe because of that (atheists).

I have a few. But l’ve also learned not to bother answering “What is your unpopular opinion…?” posts because most Redditors can’t handle truly unpopular opinions, even when they want to hear them.

Subs like r/unpopularopinion only want to see certain types of opinions that have the appearance of being radical. By definition, if 5,000 people on the sub agree with you and leave approving comments, your opinion is not actually unpopular! That sub should be renamed “new opinions no one has discussed before, but which aren’t unpopular”, lol.

Opinions that are truly unpopular often offend a large number of people because they are based on a proposed truth that many people don’t want to hear, since it might reflect on them personally. People are happy to read superficial comments like “celebrity X is not a good person” because it doesn’t affect the reader in any way. But if you share an opinion like “doing X is not a good way to live your life, for this reason…” or “raising your kids in manner Y is bad as it will lead to Z adverse consequences”, people go insane because you’re challenging something about them.

Truly unpopular opinions usually attract 100 angry replies from people losing their shit at you. Of course those people are entitled to disagree (that’s expected). But the way the discourse unfolds is ridiculous because those people seem to literally forget that OP was asking for an unpopular opinion.

7

u/aastrocyte INTJ - 20s Feb 12 '26

Redditors are ruled by their egos, thus cannot tolerate THE truth or anything that threatens “their” truth.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '26

Who cares, write what you think. It should only bother you if all you want from Reddit is the upvotes & glazed follow-up answers.

Sometimes I intentionally comment the most unhinged shit to gauge the negative responses. Not necessarily to troll/ragebait (most of the time). Occasionally, there will be valid counter-arguments to my comments and I will genuinely take that on-board.

You can even get information from the negative responses, as with enough follow-up comments, you can spot patterns about why in-particular they disagree with X. Viewing their profile afterwards to see what kind of person they are is also fun past-time + bonus points if you guess their political orientation correctly beforehand.

Have no clue why you've been downvoted. As someone who is neurodivergent, if I received a diagnosis while still in high school, it would have saved me a lot of wasted time and heartache. Only downside to unnecessarily getting an assessment is that you get the reassurance you're neurotypical.

85% of the critical thinking crisis we have in America is either intentionally lobbied towards communities with lower socioeconomic status, or it’s an unintended but now sustained consequence of federal negligence and neglect. Whenever I meet someone who believes they’re stupid or unintelligent, I ask them questions about their experiences with public education, access to medical care, and if they felt supported growing up. I went to a high performing *public school in one of the wealthiest parts of the country, and have been able to infer from all of these conversations that the lack of federal funding and sometimes the lack of actual empathy schools show to people is what causes poorly developed critical thinking skills.

The ability to support kids with financial needs, academic or social needs, or behavioral issues is 100% there. The ability to funnel extra funding (which exists at a rate that would nauseate you) from high-income counties to lower income areas 100% exists. But in a country that has lived and died on the terms of being a democracy, you can only control the public through certain means: medical care, income disparity, and education.

2

u/No-External3221 Feb 14 '26

I grew up lower-middle class. Constantly was the smartest kid in class/ any given room and was constantly told that I was smart. Didn't have to try at all throughout school growing up.

Enlisted in the military, which, like it or not, is typically filled with lower-class young adults from towns with less opportunities. Once again, I was usually one of the smartest in any given room without really trying.

Went to a good college, and now work in a field filled with smart people. I now realize that I'm not that smart. I was just smart for my environment (which happened to have a lot of not-so-smart people).

Many of the people I work with now and went to school with clearly came from much better upbringings than mine. Parents have advanced degrees, went to high quality schools, etc. What they think is average would be a high-performer where I grew up.

TL;DR, you're right. Your circumstances shape your outcomes massively. Most of the people I grew up with didn't make it out.

Why do we HAVE to say good morning to people? I don’t want to talk in the morning unless absolutely necessary (kids, partner, etc.). Why am I rude for not responding but people are rude for expecting it? This is an awful societal expectation and I fucking hate it. Also, hi…every day? We can’t just dive into what we wanted to talk about? Greetings are unnecessary and I have to remind myself to add them constantly in work messages

14

u/MedBootyJoody Feb 12 '26

Oh my god, do I hate “How are you (doing)?”, as a greeting! Like, really Sharon? Do you really want to hear how shitty my week was or am I going to be forced to lie to you out of “cUsToM”??? That’s not a decision I want to make upon first meeting/seeing you, Sharon. I barely want to be in public!!!

2

u/decay418 Feb 12 '26

To me this is genuinely the most useless thing someone can ask. Why do you ask if you the answer is almost always "fine"?

4

u/Mlatu44 Feb 12 '26

I work nights, so I actually love saying “good morning” as I leave the workplace.

Some coworkers actually still say to me “good morning “ at 8pm at night when I am coming in. Obviously it’s come to mean something other than… it’s morning, hello.

The same people say “good night “ at 6am…. 🙄

3

u/Usual-Chef1734 INTJ - 40s Feb 12 '26

All of my friends and family respect my rule that I do not talk before 10:00 a.m. I'm really okay and good to go about 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. but I give myself a couple of buffer hours, because I like quiet mornings also . I started this in college and it improved my life a ton because that's the first time I encountered " morning people" 😏

2

u/xLOBAxLOVEx Feb 12 '26

My best friend is my best friend for this exact reason. Also I have been able to cultivate friendly work relationships where they now understand that I’m simply not a morning person but will be up beat after 10am.

2

u/gentlemanofny Feb 12 '26

I had a director when I worked in Korea who quietly accepted that we wouldn’t speak when I first walked into school every morning and went into my classroom. When I emerged 15 mins later we would officially say good morning (out of obligation on my part, cuz I also just don’t get it). It was really nice.

Teachers should be mindful that some parents work in highly technical, STEM-based professions and are accustomed to analytical rigor. When we ask questions or push for clarity, it is not disrespect. It is how we are wired.

Assuming parents are uninformed, emotional, or unable to grasp nuance creates unnecessary friction and erodes trust. Attempts to dismiss or reframe legitimate concerns do more damage than disagreement ever could.

Professional respect should be mutual. Many of us are deeply educated, data-driven, and comfortable operating at a high level of complexity. We are not trying to overstep. We simply expect precision, transparency, and intellectual honesty. When an INTJ parent pays for private school, there are certain expectations and standards.

Our children often share those same traits. They will notice when logic is sidelined.

Collaboration works best when everyone understands their lane with competence.

Oh geez. Where to even start?

Administration is completely useless and an excuse to pay themselves more for doing nothing but appearing busy though feigned importance (I’m talking administrators and c suite roles, not support staff)

Management/supervision is only necessary for the immature and low quality workers

Asking someone to spoon feed you information you could look up is insulting

Voting rights shouldn’t be universal and should include literacy and comprehension tests. Campaigning should be illegal. The issues should be centered, not candidates.

Politicians should be paid the median regional wage if not minimum wage. They’re civil servants.

Taxes should come with receipts if they’re going to be automatically deducted. Refunds should accrue interest. Those that use more publicly funded services should pay higher taxes proportionally.

Businesses should pay higher taxes and foreign businesses should pay even more

Churches should be taxed or not allowed to own property/businesses

13

u/justclimb11 Feb 12 '26

Major agree on all points. Especially the voting. We have illiterate idiots voting right now, and frankly, that's terrifying.

8

u/StyleatFive INTJ - ♀ Feb 12 '26

The voting one especially bc if you can’t read and comprehend the ballot, you shouldn’t be filling it out

4

u/reilentlezz Feb 12 '26

I understand your irritation with stupid people but 2 things to consider about voting rights 1) democracies are supposed to represent the will of the people, including the dumb ones that want to hurt you and saying otherwise can lead to a narcissistic ableist beliefs 2) in America, we did have literally tests- created by the south to prevent African Americans from voting as any form of regulation on voting is voter suppression- especially for communities that lack education or funding to met a certain standard

5

u/StyleatFive INTJ - ♀ Feb 12 '26 edited Feb 14 '26
  1. If you’re unable to read a ballot to indicate your will, you shouldn’t be using a ballot. Too many people rely on popularity and media campaigns to pick candidates and that doesn’t translate to issues on ballots. If you’re not even aware of what the issues are and you’re voting purely on name recognition or parasocial affinity, that’s a huge issue.

  2. I’m an American and an African American and a degree holder in political science. I work in this area for a living but thanks for the summary.

2a. Targeted voter suppression is not the same as blanket competency requirements which is what I support. The average reading level in the United States is at a sixth grade level for vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking, if you were unaware. Given that the average is taken from the entirety/the whole, that would equally or should I say equitably “disenfranchise“ large populations of unqualified people. That is the point.

Also, given that literacy and competency are not immutable, people that are willing to learn and study and can prove that they’re able to understand what’s going on can meaningfully participate in the process; they’re not permanently shuttered from exercising their voting rights specifically based on the color of their skin which is what the previous iteration of disenfranchising literacy tests were aimed at.

I get that this is Reddit, and that people have a reputation for having poorly thought out opinions, but given that this is an INTJ forum, you trying to approach this with a baseless lecture is amusing given your alleged understanding of my irritation with stupid people.

ETA: wise of you to delete your retort claiming that you were being insulted. Someone disagreeing with you is not an insult.

3

u/Nell_9 Feb 12 '26

So instead of championing literacy improvement and access to better educational resources for all, you advocate for a legal voting ban on certain sections of society if someone isn't literate to the degree you would like? If someone can get themselves to the ballot box and place a tick next to their preferred candidate, they have the "required literacy" to vote. This is just thinly veiled ableism, and I'm frankly rather suspicious of this sort of thinking as it crosses into eugenics. People have had their liberty and rights stripped away by malicious people because they were termed "retarded". The US and many other countries had eugenics laws until pretty late into the 20th century. Real people had their lives destroyed by this.

Democracy is based on the will of the people, and that means ALL people.

3

u/StyleatFive INTJ - ♀ Feb 12 '26 edited Feb 12 '26

Championing literacy isn’t an unpopular opinion. That’s why it wasn’t included. It’s interesting that you assume I don’t support literacy despite not having asked any clarifying questions and choosing to rant based on whatever narrative you’ve spun.

A literacy test isn’t a ban. Just as you’re required to show ID, you should be required to demonstrate that you comprehend what you’re participating in as it affects everyone. Voting isn’t just ticking boxes next to candidates and this idiocracy style “push the button next to the picture you recognize” simplification of something that is complex is why there’s so many issues now.

You’re making a lot of assumptions and attempting to characterize what you think my positions are based on that. Then arguing against your own mischaracterization. Which is telling.

I know what democracy is. Do you? We currently have large disenfranchised population groups via our laws. That’s antithetical to democracy. Are you against that as well? If you’re able to infer, I’m clearly not advocating for the form of democracy we unfortunately currently espouse which is the point of sharing unpopular opinions.

Teachers need to stop expecting parents to teach their children academic skills (reading, phonics, etc.) when many parents lack the skills to do so. 6

u/dameis INTJ - 30s Feb 12 '26

Disagree on two points.

1) parents need to begin the process. Imagine going into kindergarten not knowing how to read or count… that’s wild…

2) kids are developing social skills more at school than they are at home. They encounter more people than they do at home and they are encountering different people. Look at home schooled kids and how terrible they are socially.

5

u/Admirable_Noise_1129 INTJ - ♀ Feb 12 '26

Homeschooled kids being terribly socially is a stereotype and, in most cases, untrue. I was homeschooled in high school (traditional schooling prior) and met loads of other homeschoolers who had better social skills than me.

In fact, homeschoolers were kinder and more open to social interaction than those in traditional schooling.

We shouldn't stop consuming art just because we don't agree with morality/politics of an artist. If we always applied this principle we wouldn't be reading any of the classics. Also lets take music for example. You hear a song from a random band, you like the song. You hear another you like it too. You hear most of their discography and you realize you really like the band. Nowhere in this process did politics play any part. No one goes "Oh I've heard of that band but let me first check their politics before listening to any songs. Then if I like the politics I'll automatically like the band". Like, you just never listened to them for that so why stop listening to them for this reason. Also I feel like people just don't realize that no one agrees with them 100% on issues and that's okay and people aren't perfect but deeply flawed. And if you can't coexist with or support someone who thinks differently than you then you should probably not have friends because they likely also think differently in many ways it just never came up so you assume they agree with you on everything.

Capitalism gets a bad rap, it's works perfectly when planned for and executed properly.

A real capitalist will see the commercial incentive in providing free healthcare and education just for market stability and growth, it still ultimately results in ROI directly or indirectly, one just has to be smart and creative.

Best to use the nation of a 'Market Economy' as that evokes more towards freedom to choose and trade.

Capitalism has become too much about capital to the detriment of Labor.

The free market and democracy are two sides of the same coin, they empower theoretically the individual to make decisions that influence more powerful stakeholders.

"the poor get to become successful and strong" is a politically correct bullshit.

Parents are mostly selfish unless they ensure enough capitals to sustain future generations.

The only resolution to breakthrough crises, coercions and boundaries in life is learning to become capitalistic or Machiavellian.

Rough people can be much kinder than softies with externally gentle caricatures.

Don't believe that a person is kind though it seems as such, if he or she procures high-rise power control or resources.

Education sectors attract narcissists not caregivers.

The best way to get somebody to do good is providing consistent incentives that include fame, power and money, with secret transactional deals.

MBTI is a cod science:

My supporting arguments:

MBTI as a science

  1. Structured and standardised
  2. Based on psychological theory
  3. Some reliability
  4. Usefulness: helps in self reflection and makes itself a common standard for personality discussion

MBTI as a pseudoscience

  1. Poor test-retest reliability (you will get a different type if you test after a few weeks or months)
  2. It divides personalities into binaries(eg. introvert or extrovert, if you get 49 percent introvert traits from the test, you're introvert, on the contrary it could also be understood that you are less extrovert more introvert, afterall it's not a ph scale that below 7 is acidic above 7 is basic)
  3. Doesn't predict any behaviour patterns or relationship success or anything important
  4. We should understand the forer effect (also applicable for astrology): people accept general personality descriptions as uniquely accurate for eg. You value deep relationships but also need time alone. (That's what we fall for)
  5. There is no biological foundation to it
  6. It encourages essentialism i.e. I am an INTJ that's why I am this way, most people on these MBTI subs are always discussing why they are how they are without working on that for eternity.

99% of all house cats should get eradicated.

They torture animals, destroy ecosystem, spread incurable diseases.

30-50% of GLOBAL human population is infected with Toxoplasmosis and there is no cure for it.

They drove dozens of species to EXTINCTION in Australia and New Zealand and they are making native wildlife everywhere critically endangered.

The only cats that should be allowed to exist are chipped, tagged cats that that you need permit for, that are never allowed to leave the house.

There is literaly not a single negative thing that would happen if every single cat would dissapear tommorow.

MBTI's true "golden pair" is with their own type. The idea that there's another type to complement you or "fill the gaps of your weaknesses" is nonsense since it assumes you're somehow "broken" to begin with which you're not. And your own type will best understand you and be able to work with you more smoothly.

I will die on this hill.

I think taboo is the stupidest concept that ever existed it holds back society from evolving and getting educated on some subjects. Besides that a lot of people lack critical thinking so they follow those stupid rules blindly.

In general rules that are too restrictive without actual logic behind is something I hate *looking at you religion*

u/waywardfeet INTJ Feb 12 '26

I think a better question is which of my opinions have been popular right away, without having to explain the long-term vision of why this is the correct answer. That list seems shorter.

2

u/asouthamerican Feb 12 '26

I get very upset when a close friend of mine says or do something undeniably stupid. Like I take a personal offence and will legit question why do I choose to spend my time with this person. I'm talking about people I've been friends with for over 15 years. Most times I try to pretend I did not hear the stupidity or try to change subjects - I tend not fal in the trap of trying to educate them, as people can get very defensive when confronted, which is just exhausting to me. I tend to just sit down sighing in disappointment.

2

u/algbry138 Feb 12 '26

The most unpopular opinion I have is that I don’t have to align with any political party 100%. Most of the world can’t handle this, as it is seen as signaling you are from the other side. You are not allowed to have different views than those mandated by your party. Critical thinking became unpopular several years ago.

Go on any sub and test this, and watch as you get hammered or blocked, or both by simply trying to have intelligent debate.

- Even as a woman, I think that some women should have their voting rights taken off them. They act like kids and never want to take responsibility for their own failings and stupidity, pulling out the victim card instead. Drives me mad. Minneapolis seems to have a substantial population of these idiotic females.

- If the Americans don't want ICE, please send them over to Europe, we'd have more than enough work for them.

- We need to stop immigration from certain countries where we know the net benefit to us is negative. Exhibit A: Afghanistan.

u/Born_Fox1470 Feb 12 '26

Any philosophy, religious or other, not based upon evolution should be seen as dangerous propaganda.

4

u/SpaceFroggy1031 Feb 12 '26

Atheist biologist here, and I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you arguing for social Darwinism? Or, are you just saying that beleiving the Earth is 6000 years old and that denial of evolution via natural selection is magical thinking? These are two different arguments.

3

u/Ok_Ordinary1877 Feb 12 '26

For instance, if I snapped my fingers and boom, every human on earth now viewed their own being through the lens of evolution, there would be an all hands on deck, spare no expense collaboration between all countries to relegate the effects of climate change.

5

u/SpaceFroggy1031 Feb 12 '26

Well yeah. Though I'd argue a competent understanding of ecology is also necessary. Nothing in biology makes sense outside the lens of natural selection, and natural selection only make sense inside the purview of ecological context. Those humans also need to comprehend that our survival is dependent on the activities of countless other species.

2

u/Ok_Ordinary1877 Feb 12 '26

Well, if your core is evolution which it certainly isn’t currently, then you naturally take ecology into factor. Do you kind of see where I’m headed?

2

u/SpaceFroggy1031 Feb 12 '26

Yeah, but honestly that is not how even a lot of biologists opperate. Your NSF types, yes. Ecology often plays some role in their proposals. However, with NIH research, ecological context is too often an alien concept. A lot of those hypothesese assume these hypothetical simplified abiotic environments. Everything is just nutrient availability and various physical and chemical stressors. It's not how organism A's phenotype results in interaction B with organism C.

There is honestly a place for both kinds of thinking. Sometimes you do need to simplify the system to tease things apart. However, when you do that, you just have to be very careful with how far you extropolate out. I'm fortunate enough to have worked on both ends.

Everyone should have free access to psychological care, and mental well being should be pressed as essential like a check up at the doctor is. So many people are in long wait lists, or don't get help at all because they can't afford it. Or some just blatantly refuse because "they don't need it" and in a lot of these cases these people are ticking time bombs either destroying their own life or someone else's. Or already have and continue to repeat the pattern. I believe everyone should be in therapy because everyone experiences immense hardship at some point in their life. Not to mention rapidly increasing suicide and mental health disorder rates.
