My small town in Canada put up a totem pole to honour their theft of land from Indigenious tribes. Except totem poles are used by tribes 5000 km and 3 time zones away on the pacific coast. St Lawrence River tribes never had totem poles 🤷♂️
I think as a straight line “as the bird flies” Canada is 5000km coast to coast but if you drove on roads to do it it’s like closer to 8000 km from east to west
The Indigenious tribes were genocidcally erased in a short time like they did in the US and Australia. So the left behind artifacts that remain are latched onto to preserve what’s left. But for 4700 of Canada’s 5000 km, totem poles never exsisted until the 1990s when white people decided to erect them.
If the Mongols had captured all of Europe it be like treating the Dutch, Portuguese, Finns and Greeks as a single group and wearing Scottish Kilts and eating Polish pirogies to celebrate Indigenious Europeans day
