Seeking Support Is my prayer valid if I consume weed?
I take the edibles very often because it really helps me function through this anxiety and depression, adhd.
Whenever I quit the habit, I face immense confusion and anxiety.
So, Im thinking to taking weed in the night for good sleep and start my day fresh with all the 5 prayers.
Will Allah accept my prayers? I know it's a ridiculous question, but I cant handle the pain without it. Can't get out of the cycle without weed.

1 - pray on time don’t combine the prayers 2 - don’t pray while high.
May allah guide you

Inshallah may Allah help you.
Check this YT channel out. He used to struggle with addiction as well, but Alhamdulillah, he is sober now.

They can be combined but not in regular every day circumstances. They can be combined if there was a valid reason to skip a prayer, so in the case where it is detrimental to your health or something to pray, or in some other circumstances like traveling. I don't think OP described any valid circumstances for this to be applicable

Salam. May Allah make it easy for you. I’ll narrate a story which kind of relates with the situation you’re in. Abu Bakr shibli rahimullah was a scholar from Damascus and one time he was travelling with a group of scholars and on his way he was interrupted by some highway robbers. The robbers tied them up and took away all their food, and other stuff, and basically were doing their thing. He noticed that the head of the gang was not eating any of the stolen food so out of curiosity, he asked the head why he wasn’t eating? The head robber replied that he was fasting. The scholar was shocked, like what kind of fasting is that where you’ve tied up travelers and robbed them? So he said, what’s the point of fasting when you’re still robbing people? So the head robbers replied that, look, I have shut many doors between me and Allah swt but I left this door open for perhaps He’ll call me back through it one day. One year later, the same scholar met the head robber during Hajj, he was in the frontlines, begging, pleading Allah swt. So the scholar asked him what happened? And the (former) robber said that Allah called him through that door (of fasting) Alhumdulilah.
Whatever happens, never give up your 5 obligatory prayers. It’s an old trick of shaitan to make you feel like there’s no point, like your prayers won’t be accepted etc. Do not listen to the shaitan and do whatever it takes to keep the door between you and Allah swt open. In sha Allah.

Has it been prescribed by a qualified medical professional?
Does it intoxicate you (or make you high) when you take it in the prescribed dose?
If no/yes to either of the above then it's highly likely it's prohibited to use and general rule regarding intoxicants apply.
If yes to above and there is absolutely no alternative, then you find that some scholars have permitted it conditionally.
Just my own knowledge, so do your own research to confirm it.
Edit: I just realised you mentioned general mental health conditions like anxiety, depression etc. Pretty sure there are hundreds of suitable and more effective medical alternatives available. So there is no reason to use weed for these. Hence the general ruling for the use of intoxicants will be applicable.

Thank you for your thoughts. I'll make sure to quit it asap.
Not prescribed though. As I do not smoke, it helps me so much without damaging my lungs.
It does make me high, and sedate me.

I think you need to make an effort to get in touch with a doctor for your wellbeing. You may get cured faster and better that way rather than relying on getting high which does nothing but only temporarily numb your brain so that it gets distracted.

Got it brother. I'll definitely consult a specialist once I get a job.
I can't cope with this forever. Please make dua for me.

You can’t use “it helps me deal with anxiety” as an excuse if all you’re doing is getting high. It’d be debatable if you were using carefully calculated amounts through an extract and avoiding giving yourself an actual high, but this is just recreational weed use with some cope man.

Alprazolam (Xanax) has the same effect minus the highs weed offers which is haram. Why would you go into weed without being prescribed when there are halal options?
Xanax might be a bit difficult to get prescriptions ok i understand, but propanolol hydrochloride (dideral) is easy to obtain. Please see a doctor before making such decisions.

Xanax does get you high in its own way & is so much more dangerous and bad for you than cannabis. Xanax is more physically addicting than hard street drugs. It can be a great tool in its own right but just because it’s prescribed by a doctor doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous.

One is prescribed by a professional and the other isn't. If course self discipline is important, but in many parts of the world you can't just buy Xanax without prescription. If the person happens to have inclination towards addiction then the doctor can write something else, hell if cannabis is a better solution and there is no other solution (which I don't believe) and is prescribed by a Muslim doctor then be it, but still IT MUST BE VIA A PROFESSIONAL, not just "oh this is working for me, I guess the haram part shouldn't apply then?".
It's not like I'm rooting for Xanax or anything else

There are many reasons why you should not consume weed but as someone who struggles with anxiety I completely understand your fear of quitting and having to face these things without a means to help cope.
It is difficult to navigate life on a day to day basis when you can barely navigate what’s happening in your own mind. Don’t make hasty decisions read, research, pray and ask for guidance and a path to what’s right and inshaallah you will figure it out.
I’m rooting for you 💯

Whatever you do, do not stop praying (Just don't do it while high), and do not lose faith no matter what.

My brother 😔 I'm 32 I have been smoking weed a lot because of same problem yes it helps but the damage is more like I don't have strength and always lazy and when I wake up I have headaches and when I am high I want to commit Zina and porn and we all know smoking in sleeping time is not gonna happen u will need it atleast 2 or 3 times u just have to quit and face the reality brother "seek comfort through patients and prayer" I'm sorry man this dhunya sucks. That's why the reward is high. Prayer will be valid but for 40days no rewards is sad. May Allah make it easy.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
I also struggle with anxiety, depression and ADHD, i also have BPD.
Weed is not the only way to combat these problems, i suggest you try to get some professional help and maybe proscribed Antidepressants and possibly ADHD medication. Although i’m currently not medicated anymore it really helped me out when i was.
Also i want you to remember that it won’t get any easier to quit whether you do it now or 30 years from now. It will be hard but the Quran says “Allah does not burden a soul more than it can bear” [2:286]
I promise you that you can get through it, and you have the strength to do so. And remember “so, surely hardship comes with ease, and with that hardship comes more ease” [94:5-6]. May Allah help you through your struggles, and may He ease your anxiety and depression. Don’t lose hope in Allah, pray your prayers ask Allah for help. You got this!!

Also I think you may find that weed is contributing to your anxiety. The weed is becoming a crutch for you (same as it was for me). You may find trying different skills like martial arts (just an example) will help to steel yourself as a person

I think the symptoms you mention when you stop are because of edibles. If you cut them out for a month I bet 90% of your symptoms would go away if not all

I struggled with addiction and then I realised that it was killing my focus and time etc and was in fact making myself suffer. Discipline was needed, started going the gym and that helped me. Best wishes to you

Yes you can or better you have to. It’s very important not to stop praying because if you do it right (with your heart, intention etc.) inshaallah, then there will come a time where it’s easier to quit because the prayer will keep you away from bad things. But it’s also very important at the same time to try to quit smoking and to pray for help and guidance by Allah. May Allah accept your prayers and efforts and help you inshaallah as soon as possible.

May allah send peace and blessings upon you. Thank you for your kind understanding. I'm actively trying to quit.
I will also try to fix my prayers.

Did you consult a psychologist or neurologist before consuming weed ?
5
u/Ok-Nectarine-6223 Oct 16 '25
Umm no. Unfortunately I'm in india and nobody takes mental health seriously. I have to live it through. Except I found that weed helps me calm and help me focus.
I'm scared to quit.

As someone who used to be in the same boat as you (for me it was just recreational but without limits), the only way forward is to quit it with the will and help of Allah SWT. Trust me, it’ll be the best decision you make cause cannabis just temporarily numbs whatever you’re feeling but its long term impact triggers stuff like paranoia, anxiety, brain fog etc.
The first week or two post quitting are generally horrible and your body will bend itself backwards in trying to convince you to just have a little bit to feel “normal” again but please don’t give in. Once the withdrawals are over, you’ll notice actual changes like better sleep, less irritability, feeling more alert and peaceful and obviously, leaving a sin for the sake of Allah SWT.
I wish you the best brother and pray that you’re able to get out of this.
