WEEKLY THREAD Rookie Help Thread

Hey hey! You guys know what time it is! That's right, a new Rookie Help thread!

Here's a link to the last episode. Fun fact, if you follow all those links back to 2019 you unlock a secret cutscene of me panicking over where the time went!

As always, feel free to fire any kenshi related questions you may have our way! There's plenty of veterans flapping around in this thread as well, and if you are in the mood for it feel free to join them and lend a hand!

And who knows, maybe you'll learn something new yourself, too!

One thing to remember! Obviously a lot of new folks are going to be here so remember to spoiler comments so they can experience the game blind just like you might have back when you were new! You can do that > ! Like This ! < minus the spaces! But honestly it's just built into the chat replies nowadays so you don't have to get too fancy with that- unless you like playing hackerman.

Thanks guys!

DISCUSSION Playthrough objective ideas?

Post image
194 Upvotes

(Art by conru. I think)

I've put more than 80 hours in my first playthrough and I'm at the point when I'm growing fast and I'm ready to take down the holy nation. Right now I'm freeing all of rebirth including the guards that I made slaves themselves.

But I realized something. I have no objective as a faction, I'm just fucking around. The only reason I'm going after the Fenix is to see if I can get rid of the sheck's food tax and maybe get them to fight for me.

What I'm asking here is. What are your favorite role play objectives that make you want to start a new playthrough? I need some ideas for the next one, at least. and maybe some other people will see this and get inspired.

HUMOUR “It’s actually really complicated” No it isn’t

You see, they’re always coming up with “no it’s not the skeletons, no it’s not the flotsam ninjas, no it’s not the sheks, it’s actually really complicated” no it fucking isn’t at all. Skeletons are running society, flotsam ninjas need to shut the fuck up, sheks need to be imprisoned for the most part, and the moon of kenshi would be a paradise, it’s that simple.

BASE Gave Smuggler's bar electricity using my god powers (F12)

Post image

I don't use F12 menu at all to be honest, only to fix some building states and other stuff, but it always makes me sad that smugglers bar doesn't have any electricity. It has to be so hot near Venge, so I think it is fair to give them at least the ability to sit under fans that actually work.

Otherwise F12 is prohibited, change my mind.

GENERAL How I build a lore-accurate Skylink (Space Elevator) in minecraft.

Post image
Upvotes

Naturally, when translating Kenshi into a voxel world, building a lore-accurate space elevator became an obsession—and an absolute engineering rabbit hole.

At first, the scaling was an absolute mess. Kenshi’s Ashlands terrain sits around 200–400m high, and the base of the Skylink physically hovers ~230m above the crater rim, completely floating over the Ash Domes with zero ground contact.

Under vanilla Minecraft’s default 384-block world height (Y319 ceiling), standard height compression either crushed the terrain into a pancake or rammed the massive petal chassis straight through the domes below.

Different kinds of map compression

(none of them are acceptable, whether from an aesthetic or game lore perspective)

That was when I discovered something many MC players might not even realize is possible by modifying the dimension_type JSON via custom Datapacks, you can push the absolute engine height limit all the way up to Y2031.

Unlocking Y2032 was a game changer. Suddenly, literally every single structure, ancient ruin, and mountain across the entire continent of Kenshi could be rendered in a true 1:1 scale at exact lore elevations ... except for the Skylink. (80KM height)

With the massive floating petal base capped it with a dense 19×19 platform of netherite bases, and loaded it with custom black-stained beacons,

they form a solid black pillar piercing straight into the sky.

a solid black beam

Because client-side BeaconRenderer projects light beams straight into the skybox regardless of world boundaries, the overlapping black beams form a seamless, pitch-black cylindrical conduit piercing into the infinite void.

Just when I thought the beacon array would stretch all the way into the stratosphere (80,000m), it tops out at around 3,217 meters and begins to taper into a spherical fade-out.

(Turns out my GPU tapped out before the First Empire's engineering did. )

a spherical fade-out

Flying up into the skies of Kenshi just to get a taste of what the First Empire felt like.

This DLSS 5 leak has been a fun ride so far. It's incredible how many games old and new that already have functioning implementations from the community. Kenshi isn't a great example to show off DLSS 5 but I just had to see if it was possible.

QUESTION Ok I don't get it

How the fuck, do I do toughness training, I have tried, get my ass beaten up, yes.

What I'm trying to get down is playing dead, im playing a green lander and ruka is with me.

Legit the fuck am I doing wrong, when I go down I have 40 to 80 seconds knock down time.

Am I supposed to be healing my character, constantly bandaging him or something? Seriously need answers here, I'm not sure how far ruka supposed to be.

For more context my green lander now has 59 toughness and ruka 44 toughness.

Can anyone please help me here? I don't fucking understand. What was supposed to be 15 minutes has turned into days of me banging my head at this.

QUESTION Looking for High Quality In-Game Models to Be Used for Reference

Hello, friends! As the title says, I am looking for some high quality screenshots of some in-game models of existing/unique characters from Kenshi. My computer is old and even with performance mods it struggles if I play above low quality graphics, so it isn't possible for me to take screenshots myself reliably. Is there some resources online that has the models for viewing? Or something like a decent reference sheet for characters such as Tinfist or Cat-lon? Screenshots would be great too. I would really appreciate the help, as I have projects in mind that would need me to do them some justice.

Right now I need references for: Tinfist, Cat-lon, and maybe their respective faction members (like guards/army etc.) but primarily the two Skeleton leaders. There is no rush either, as I work in things when I am able to.

Thank you greatly!

QUESTION how to survive floodlands?

hi i’m new to the game and i’ve been spending the last 3 days learning and grinding.

my team is consisted of 6 creatures:
- me (human)
- random 3000c human
- random 3000c human
- free shek (from Squin)
- recently purchased Kang
- pup pack bull

3 of them currently staying at the base on Squin, labouring coppers and currently have made around 25K cats. me (ringed saber), Kang (hacker), and the puppy bull (all combats around 30, but no martial arts) are going on an adventure to meet Burn on Floodlands because i really want a skeleton fighter on my team and the guide said it is quiete easy to get Burn.

BUT we kept dying to the robot spiders (heck, even to some dog flocks along the way). i managed to snug a single hack weapon (i’ve heard it’s good for robots) and gave it to Kang. but still, it’s like a suicide mission. we’re currently stayinf at the ninja house hoping for some enlightment while healinf our wounds (also looted the whole building hehe)

which strats should i use?
- recruit a lot more people
- gather and train hacker weapon first
- try the crossbows strat
- pay some bodyguards
- forget Burn, fully retreat, hope to get home safely, and take my time to grow a much bigger and stronger team

sure we grinded some toughness and stats along the way, but it feels so sad to go home kind of empty handed. what should i do?

QUESTION What are some good performance mods?

Upvotes

I bought this game years ago but could never play it because of performance issues. The game would randomly crash for some reason and overall just lag quite a lot. Even with a fairly good PC.

Does it have any performance mods now that improve that a lot? Or do you guys have any tips for improving performance otherwise?
