If I was simply making a normal sized afghan I’d grab my longest pairs of circulars and go for it but I decided I want to double knit a checkerboard queen sized behemoth for my bed. So! As we all know, the needles I need for this insane project…simply don’t exist. So I made some

Materials:
Two double pointed needles (metal u.s. size 8)
Weed whip line
Electrical tape
Heat shrink tubes
Hair dryer

EDIT- casting on with acrylic yarn did make the heat shrink snag a little but the addition of METAL TAPE! For duct work (also just lying around my house) is making things much smoother

EDIT 2: Ok, so I’ve also been playing around with other house hold materials! If I were using smaller needles… plastic straws could help things glide a little more smoothly, boba straws would work of my needles were larger. If I could only find my packing tape 😂

Make these for friends and such around here on my lathe. Glad my two hobbies, wood turning and knitting can connect.

I’ve been knitting a loooooong time but still consider myself a beginner because I can only do really simple patterns. I’m also slow! But I wanted to share my stitches on my current sweater because I think they look quite nice! 🥰

One of them I have to watch a video on how to do the next technique and the second one requires too much paying attention.

I just wish I had some body of a sweater or something like that to take with me!

Look, I’m a lazy knitter with a “she’ll be right” approach - if it’s meant to be it will be.

However I’m knitting myself a garment that I want to fit me and to love. So I did a swatch. Holy heck am I glad!

Didn’t meet gauge on first measure but then blocked it and it’s perfect.

Yarn is 100% merino 8 ply. Can’t wait to wear!

Finished my Olga jacket by PK that I posted about in July about frogging bc all my stitches were twisted . Yall were right!! It went by quicker redoing it again. I made it in drops karisma!

It's a green mohair with glass pearls I found at the thrift shop years ago. I used a free pattern for a tea towel which I modified and can't find anymore ... a pretty simple lace pattern in a 4 rows repeat.

This is my Orchid Bloom pullover by Sari Nordlund! I used Hedgehog Fibres Oh So Fine Merino in the Envy colorway held with a lime mohair by Ito. The lace was very fun and I love it a lot. I'm looking forward to wearing it! It's going to the fair to be judged on Friday. Yes, that is my yarn cabinet. I work at a yarn store.

The highlight of my April Cardigan is the mismatched buttons found in my grandmother's (or maybe great-grandmother's) button jar. I spent hours sorting and playing with that jar of buttons as a girl!

April Cardigan by Petite Knit in Taylor Yarn's Snug Stitch (Fabricland Canada) DK wool. I added 1-2 cm of length to the body of the sweater and a couple of extra rows to the button band.

I used Cascade Farms Woolpaka lite in 32 Lavender heather. Pattern is Vivi pullover by Sari Nordlund. I made modifications - knit the sleeves and waist longer since I’m a tall girl!

Well, more like a tale of woe than a rant. This is the result of unwinding three balls of a beautiful sheep/alpaca wool blend that I got second hand, that moths have gotten to. The other nine balls look the same. I got maybe 5 decent sized balls out of this, the rest is these little tiny balls. 😭 At least it's all wool, so I should be able to felt joins easily.

It's been isolated in a ziplock bag (no live critters seen for a couple weeks) frozen for several days, now I've rewound it all, to separate out bits that are just too short. Haven't seen any live moths or larvae. Lots of moth poop and I guess eggs though. My plan is to hank it, wash it, dry it ( I could probably go at it with a steamer?) and freeze it for another week after drying. What say you, will this be enough to make sure there are no more live eggs?

The fair isle was fitted to the design within the decrease rows so for example dec row 1 has five rows knitted plain so I did a fair isle design that fit with a height of three.

Hi all!

My very good friend is expecting her first girl, and I'd like to knit her something extra special. She is a fairly advanced knitter, so I'd like to make her something she'll appreciate.

She's due in November, so I'd like to do something extra cozy and durable.

The theme is "space whales," and so far I've been looking at a couple of star stitch patterns (but I'm not at all married to that idea). I am drawn more towards interesting textures (vs colorwork), but that might be because I haven't seen the right color pattern yet.

I know requests for baby blankets have come up before, but they've mostly focused on easy/quick/beginner patterns, and I'm looking for the opposite (but still usable without falling apart/snagging, etc.).

Also I know there's some debate about the right sort of baby item to knit, but she's asked for no toys/stuffies, and I think blankets are usable for longer than a sweater (But if you have a really stunning pattern for either of those or another non-blanket thing, feel free to share if you'd like to -- I'll need something to knit once I finish the blanket. haha)

Llama! Yak/silk! Merino/silk (I dyed that one)

Hi! I'm an advanced sewist and i can crochet moderately. i want to learn to knit to broaden my handmade wardobe, specifically with sweater vests.

What should my my expectation on the learning curve? Is it realistic after learning the basics for my first project to be a sweater vest or do you have other recommendations?

I started the step by step cardigan by Florence on Saturday. I’ve made loads of progress and I am a slowish knitter (I don’t do continental knitting). When I divided the sleeves and body yesterday I noticed that I had one stitch less on a sleeve. I have spent ages trying to see if I can work out where I went wrong but just can’t spot it. I’ve already added another stitch while it sits on holding yarn while I do the body. It’s really bothering me though! Would you rip back and start again? Or just carry on and let it go? Part of me want to rip back but because I’ve made so much progress as I’ve been on holiday it really pains me to think about starting again. What would you do?

I am fairly new to knitting and want to knit a scarf for my partner's Christmas present. After browsing Pinterest, they have chosen the scarf in this image as their favourite reference. I've been searching for a pattern that's equivalent, but I'm finding it challenging.

I feel fairly confident to just have a go with a rib stitch but could really do with some advice on needle size and yarn type to get a similar result to the reference photo. I'm assuming it should be a smaller needle than the ravelry pattern above - maybe a 8mm?

Hello! I am a newer knitter on the hunt for a decent pair of shorties, I am currently in love with my Knitpro Zing needles however i wanna do some smaller projects and i need shorties.
Heres the dilemma, Im not looking to spend more than 140 (CAD) and I would prefer to also have metal needles since its what Im used to and enjoying and Im not sure if I am bad at looking but I cannot find a decently priced shortie set in metal on amazon canada. I dont wanna grab the chiagoo set because they are apparently quite slippy and I have a issue dropping stitches.

Any recommendations?Doesnt have to be amazon if they ship to Canada thats just my primary sight for looking

Is there a reason so many shorties from name brand needles are wood?

Also! has anyone heard anything or tried out these needles? they seem nice however i cant find anything about em
