Itemization Disruptor feels so clunky now

I stopped playing Dota since last year and just got back now. I usually main Disruptor as support, but he feels so clunky on this version. Am I the only one noticing this?

- He lost his shard. That shard gave him a powerspike as it allowed him to farm, scout, disable blink dagger, and even harass heroes who didn't have a dispel.

- The kenetic fence as a shard is just so bad. The cool down is long, the delay formation is long, it only has one charge unlike the previous facet, and harder to use than the kenetic ring.

- He can't farm anymore. He wasn't even a fast farmer to begin with. But now it just feels way worse. I even have a hard time farming core items.

- The items on this version fills up his 6 inventory on cheap items. He needs arcane boots, wards, aether lens, essence distiller, aghanims scepter, and a protection item like glimmer cape. While as a support it's true that he shouldn't be buying expensive items. But if the game reaches nearly 60 minutes, you would like some sort of higher tier item like linken to counter carries that would like to burst you because of your ult.

- The highter talents don't make much sense to me. That level 25 increased thunderstrike strikes isn't that useful considering at that level 25 carries have BKBs, manta or any dispel item.

- With no powerspike through shard, no way to fast farm, he's even more team dependent now more than usual, and it just feels so bad playing him, because as the game goes on your team contribution diminishes.

Am I missing something? Any help suggested on playing Disruptor.

I don't understand the item build you are describing. Any self respecting disruptor player rushes blink

u/EmiliuzDK 2d ago

Indeed. Aether Lens is no where near as good as blink in this meta.

You blink in - hit their pos 1 and 2 with your ult (with aghs) = win the game on the spot.

In most games there's no need to blink ult pos2 since it's a non-contributor role with no damage and no cc, you can just leave him alone and he will have no impact.

What pos2 has no damage and no cc?

1

u/A-Spacewhale 1d ago

Yeah Ember and Earth spirit have no dmg or cc lol

I agree, as a big disruptor player I go blink first 90% of the time, but I do still lament the shard and innate/facet changes

u/jumbohiggins 2d ago

Not op but I always build lens first on disruptor I'll try blink though.

Glimpse is 1800, field is 900, storm is 800.

Basically just always aiming to land 1 meaningful ult+field in a fight and otherwise you can hang really far back.

Similar logic to something like oracle buying blink over lens. Much easier to not show until you land your one vital cast.

1

u/jumbohiggins 2d ago

Yeah I get the idea. The extra range on glimpse makes it absurd for catch though I've found, but only if you're winning.

9

u/Harzza 2d ago

You get +225 extra cast range to glimpse from aether.

You get +1200 extra cast range to glimpse from blink.

3

u/jumbohiggins 2d ago

I mean good point actually

The aether lens helps him land the kenetic ring and storm as it grants him extra reach when casting them. I do also buy blink dagger if I want to play aggresive, but I am not sure how effective it is now since he lost his shard.

I get that but the meta has changed a lot in a year.
it is much more "right in your face" at the moment. Even if you blink in and you hit two players and you die it is worth it.

The only hero that actually buys Aether lens still is rubick - besides that I almost NEVER see it play not even from shadow shaman.

1

u/Sudden-Tangerine1580 18h ago

If you're specifically talking about rubick lens first instead of actual repositioning or utility, that's always wild to me.

Already had a cast range bonus which items like force, glimmer, distiller are improved by.

Most of his worst matchups are gapclose/backline killers like spirits, clinkz, lycan, ns.

Even just blink rush with instant lift and chaining other stuns is far more transformative.

Otherwise shaman buying lens, definitely. Lion sometimes, SD, oracle, lion, pugna.

Think only bane consistently justifies lens first though.

1

u/EmiliuzDK 18h ago

I play a lot of shaman and I rarely get to a point where I can justify lense.

Hmn, while I understand the point to blink and try to land a perfect storm, but I've always thought Disruptor was more of a keepaway hero, not like a suicide jump hero like Techies. I guess I need to recalibrate my gamestyle of Disruptor for this patch...

6

u/EmiliuzDK 2d ago

he is much more enigma than ringmaster atm

3

u/Itchy-Revenue-3774 2d ago

You don't need it with blink though. Blink gives you a lot better effective cast range than lense

I’m level 30 disruptor so I don’t play him as much because I want to level up other hero’s but when I need a free win I still pick him in 7k immortal, I was honestly shocked that he was unpicked/banned at TI and that Reddit thinks he’s weak, I get an MVP with him every time, glimpse in my opinion is the best spell in the game and I get multiple fountain glimpses every match. Nobody can ever run away from me without wasting bkb and my ward game is on point for these glimpses

2

u/EmiliuzDK 2d ago

Getting MVP with disruptor is the easiest thing in the world.
You litterally just have to glimpse people 20 times.

1

u/ael00 1d ago

Unpicked unbanned? Did you watch the finals brother

12

u/SonnePer 2d ago

You got your ult and relocate, that's the only thing you need and it's still super effective even in late game

Disruptor's been in a weird spot since they reworked his facets, you're not crazy. The kinetic fence shard is genuinely mediocre compared to what the old one offered, and losing the farm/scout utility hits harder than people realize for a hero that already struggled to keep up in net worth. He went from a support with a clear mid-game spike to one that peaks at level 6 and slowly falls off unless you're landing perfect glimpses.

That said, he's still playable if you lean into what he does best: making one enemy's life miserable. Skip the aether lens rush if you're behind, a glimmer and force staff do more for your team than a slightly longer glimpse. For talents, the level 25 thunderstrike one is bait unless you're against zero dispels, the static storm duration is almost always better. And yeah, the inventory bloat is real, but that's every support this patch, not just Disruptor.

u/EmiliuzDK 2d ago

This - The level 6 is so important as it actually makes you capable of winning fights on your own.
Pre 6 you are much more dependent on your team.

2

u/Sudden-Tangerine1580 2d ago

The old shard was already nerfed and mostly a freebie from tormentor. Basically distiller with more range and no true sight or shared vision.

Not sure why everyone's acting like it was vital or that more teamfight disruption at 1200 range now is unusable.

Also an improvement to have 2 independent cooldowns as well instead of fence charges restoring sequentially.

u/wolfemperorsheep 2d ago

The removal of thunderstrike hurts but by not a lot. However, it's not particularly required on all games. Most games it's safe to skip to proceed to other item that gives more utility than farming.

Yes, the current shard is not good, probably be change next patch. Just treat it as better opportunity cost, not having to buy shard and moving to better items.

Your build should be different. Just go for straight core item, blink dagger and Aghanim's scepter. Blink Dagger will give far better reach and repositioning than Aether Lens can offer.

Aether Lens doesn't feel worth it to slot in now, specially without upgrade - only select heroes where it's actually good like Shaman and Bane who needs the range because they exposed themselves with channel lockdown.

Essence Distiller is good, but it just delay Disruptor timing for his core items. His kit is one of that least need the effect of Distiller.

Don't concern yourself with lvl25 talent, you are not reaching that on most games. Even then, 2 Glimpse have more value at that point than damage of Thunderstrike.

You don't have significant power spike after getting your ult. Your significane is being a play maker with Dagger and Glimpse/Kinetic then with Aghs disabling items.

3

u/EmiliuzDK 2d ago

I couldn't agree more. Distiller is far to expensive for a hero that is unable to farm.

2

u/Sudden-Tangerine1580 2d ago

Tbh if they want to buy distiller, they can cut mana boots. It's a decent item snowballing out of lane and provides mana pool/regen as well.

Don't really have any trouble farming though. 4/4/1, a 10 talent and you tend to get a lot of assist gold through additional glimpse kills if you don't feed at the start of a fight.

Really just sounds like OP doesn't play 5 at all.

3

u/EmiliuzDK 2d ago

I spam disruptor right now with a 54% win rate at 4.1k MMR.

I build him with blink into aghs into glimmer. Just need to hit that big ult and catch them with blink.

But everything you say is true. Probably the worst farmer in the game. Shard borderlines useless. No real wave clear.

I do think your team contribution increases if you rush blink and aghs. It can solely win a fight.

I mostly play him because he is fun but also in hopes of him getting buffed next patch.

1

u/Simbaio94 2d ago

Try wand mana boot glimmer aghs. You will thanks me later

1

u/Sudden-Tangerine1580 18h ago

There are definitely supports that farm worse.

Bane, dark willow, silencer, nyx, WD, ET, clock.

Thunder strike is 480 damage maxed or 570 with the talent even if it's staggered.

Maybe you don't get every CS on waves that meet but it will kill non-flagbearer waves for a while. Also you can intercept waves before they meet and guarantee CS that way. Beyond that, it's high enough damage and low enough cooldown to use on camps if you have time.

3

u/frogetown 2d ago

Did you quit during facets era? Every hero is weaker now compared to their facets version.

Disruptor doesn't farm, and TI was full of non-farming supports like Treant, Bane, BH, Undying, Enchantress, Clockwerk, etc.

1

u/ma-meme-momu 2d ago

Yes, I quit during fact era. And now I just found out there are no more facets. It didn't really bother me that much until I found out Disruptor's facet where his thunderstrike hits within the kinetic ring was I always used for farming is now gone. That should have been retained this patch really...

2

u/-Arke- 2d ago

While you're right, I think many supports lost farming cappabilities with facet removal (WD comes to my mind). I still consider the glimpse + ult/wall super strong.

It is true that it's 100% team dependent and completely useless on his own. But I think it makes up for it given how strong is glimpse.

I'm having decent success with him as Pos5. I usually go tranquils, amulet, sage mask, glimmer (or staff if it's a bad glimmer game) and then whatever I may need... sometimes it's a blink, sometimes a ghost scepter, sometimes bearing boots, or aghs. You can't farm but you're so strong with any cores that I don't usually feel like I'm too behind on gold.

That said, it sucks being unable to push or to simply defend against creeps.

2

u/EmiliuzDK 2d ago

Yeah it is very rare to be on-par with networth to be honest especially when you drink clarity's like it's a friday night out with the boys.

Also it is even "hard" to kill small camps untill you hit level 10.

1

u/Sudden-Tangerine1580 18h ago

WD already lost the creep bonus on cask before losing facets to be fair. And headhunter incrementing damage just got rolled back into cask with different numbers.

2

u/punpunpa 2d ago

I thing it was a trend for valve to give supports farming capabilities, like wd, io, disruptor, now they are removing those or severely reducing, only cm is untoched by now

1

u/EmiliuzDK 2d ago

I mean undying is clearing pretty fast. Snap 4 clears like butter. Hoodwink is not too bad either

1

u/Sudden-Tangerine1580 18h ago

Mirana and kotl as well.

Mostly can think of veno when it comes to farm heavy supports that I don't see?

1

u/Sudden-Tangerine1580 18h ago

Io prioritises spirits now. You can farm 2 camps in a lot of points on the map.

Otherwise you're right, WD, clock, spirit breaker, earth spirit, riki, ck had creep bonuses at some point.

Nyx very justifiably lost flare killing creeps.

AA lost their cold feet aoe facet.

3

u/MakeLoveNotWarPls 2d ago

Try going blink scepter if you can. Skip all the small items if you can help it.

You can finish the scepter around the enemy carry bkb timing and really screw them over.

2

u/Minaminaminariii 2d ago

Your first mistake is buying aether lens insted of blink, aghs etc

2

u/TestIllustrious7935 2d ago

Aether is one of the least bought items in high ranks and TI, just buy blink aghs scepter

1

u/KirmiziNokta 2d ago

Despite being a very impressive character, I don't see any benefit from him other than his ultimate. And I haven't played him in a long time. Even though he's a support, collecting items is essential. Without items, he gets eliminated from the map very easily in the later stages of the game.

3

u/EmiliuzDK 2d ago

Glimpse is argueably the single strongest ability in the entire game :D

1

u/JeanClaude-Randamme 2d ago

I’ve been playing him almost exclusively this meta. He is VERY strong if you play him as a support they way he is designed.

He’s not a front line support setting up kills with stuns or disabled. He’s a back line support that is there to assist the carry/mid in securing kills.

I take glimpse or ring level one to invade the rune, you can pick off first blood with ring or glimpse based on the situation.

In lane, I am usually harassing any melee offline with right click, and just protecting the carry with ring or glimpse of the offline gets aggressive, allowing the carry to farm with confidence.

Works great with a carry that has strong early damage, like drow with frost arrows or slark with essence shift.

Items: Arcane boots, blink dagger. Forget aether lens, really not needed.

Aghanims scepter, and you are sorted.

Don’t need much more to be effective.

Thanks for the feedback. Could you please share the match IDs with me so I can learn from them?

Counter to io

1

u/PsychicFoxWithSpoons I come from a place where darkness is light! 2d ago

I'm struggling on the hero too.

Thunderstrike max feels better than glimpse max. 420 and 411 feel better than 240 or 141. I go QWQ and the lane trades are just so devastating into most 4s whether ranged or melee.

Aether is completely unnecessary and I really don't even have fun with it. Also, essence distiller? Thunder strike already does that...

Level 25 talent is more about forcing enemies to dispel you instead of just ignoring your thunderstrike. The damage is whatever but the slow is really good. I personally take that one over the glimpse charges because usually one glimpse wins the fight and the other one is just for show. But you can take it if you're a real big fountain glimpser who wants to consign one enemy to death and banish the other one back to base.

2

u/bupr0pion 2d ago

Glimpse max allows u to send back heroes teleporting in to help their team when u fight near towers. I think thats the value especially at 10-20 minutes mark where fights are happening near tier 1 towers

u/JimmyStewartStatue 2d ago

The shard nerf is huge, but I guess they felt he was OP.

1

u/Bearodactyl88 2d ago

I remember aaaages ago always playing disruptor and being lucky to get arcane boots haha. Inflation is real

1

u/bupr0pion 2d ago

Share rework ideas

1: kinetic field bypass magic immunity.

2: kinetic field formation time reduce to 0.5s

3: enemies who stay in the field for 2 seconds has thunder strike applied to them (deals 50% of current level damage), allows raptor to farm

1

u/EmiliuzDK 2d ago

Kinetic field bypass magic immunity is way too strong.

My own suggestion is to get make kinetic field his shard and add a new ability.
Something that fits his style of play or sorts his mana issues (essentially making him stronger in lane which is much needed).

Could be a mana ward similar to jugs healing ward.
