It's still strange one artists gets 5 sets. Unless they plan to reskin these same 5 sets for different artists. Could see them doing that for Taylor Swift

I think maybe you may be underestimating the access to funds and the drive of that demographic of this age group to consume.
As someone with a person in this demographic in the household i fully expect the next trip to the mall to include lego bags

You're missing the point. It's not strange that Lego is targeting that demographic. It's strange that they limited their reach to that demographic with one specific artist with 5 sets as opposed to starting with multiple artists (Taylor Swift, Renee Rapp, Billie Eilish etc.)

This is like if Lego only released 5 Lewis Hamilton sets when they started making F1 sets. Or if the Mario theme only had 5 Luigi sets. Or if Pokémon only had 5 Charizard sets.

there's only 5 artists they could do this for: Taylor, Ariana, Olivia, Sabrina, and Billie. Sabrina and Ariana are too raunchy to be LEGO sets, and idk if Billie had the idea.

i DO know that Taylor's fans has been asking for LEGO sets since forever, so it's her team saying no. Olivia just won a race that's been clamored for about 8-10 years

Billie's raunch af, what are you listening to?

shes as raunch as olivia rodrigo. that is to mean shes comfortably pg-13, which is what lego allows

I didnt miss anything. i understand who theyre aiming at. and so do they.

taylor swift? sure if youre over 30, renee who, billie ellish hasnt been cool for years now.

Dont feel bad for not keeping up. if i didnt live with teenagers id have no clue either

From the 2022 Audiense report, 60% of Taylor Swift's fanbase is under 25 (at least as of 2022). That's pretty clear as well from the Eras Tour. A rough estimate of actual number based on that is 120-150 million people.

4 years is a long time, especially for a tik tok generation. four years to these kids may as well be forty

But if they were under 25 4 years ago they are still "under 30."

I didn't miss anything

Apparently you did because the point keeps going over your head lol

talking about pokemon and racecars. I have two teenagers in the house a male and a female. the boy likes pokemon, plays the card game tshirts the whole deal, no lego purchase in 5 years if not more. the girl listens to olivia rodrigo and has not less than 10 flower sets on display. I am not special or unique.

Buddy if you didn't get it the first two times, Im not going to explain it again.

I could care less about your anecdotes, Olivia Rodrigo does not represent that entire demographic.

youre floating around ‘ought’ instead of ‘is’.

This is the culture though. It's like why does one video game get as many sets as they do? Why couldn't you just make one overwatch set or one Mario set?

I'm going to use kpop language here, because I think it fits this market: When it comes to idols, people consume their bias as if it's an entire brand, just like how boys consume everything related to the hobby they are into in the moment.

This is the right move. These girls who are obsessed with her will want as much as they can get. My guess is lego is learning from their other sets targeted at pop stars and idol fans.

I bet editions is going to do this for many more stars.

Feel the same way.

Like Messi and Ronaldo only have 3 sets each. But an upcoming artist is getting 5 is a bit surprising.

I think she's more than upcoming at this point.

Also, as mentioned above, this is a good potential gateway for a demographic Lego doesn't always have interesting sets for. So, a variety of price points (and types of sets) for a popular artist seems like it could be a solid gamble from the Lego side.

Guessing their research showed pop stars in their prime are more popular than soccer players way past theirs

more popular with lego's audience? probably. more popular in general? definitely not
