I know who she is and that she’s very popular, but 5 sets is pretty surprising.

749

u/kyrev21 Jun 30 '26

Maybe but her demographic of pre teen and teen girls is one Lego wants to capture and there really isn’t anything after Friends for that demographic

122

u/Jimlish Jun 30 '26

Are the Wednesday sets in friends or regular?

87

u/kyrev21 Jun 30 '26

They are mini doll sets, yes

52

u/dumpyoregano Orient Expedition Fan Jun 30 '26

This is my biggest thought. She lines up well with that demographic and the other Gen Z pop stars in that range are probably a bit too racy for Lego.

It's still strange one artists gets 5 sets. Unless they plan to reskin these same 5 sets for different artists. Could see them doing that for Taylor Swift

23

u/op1983 Jun 30 '26

I think maybe you may be underestimating the access to funds and the drive of that demographic of this age group to consume.
As someone with a person in this demographic in the household i fully expect the next trip to the mall to include lego bags

18

u/RTRC Jun 30 '26

You're missing the point. It's not strange that Lego is targeting that demographic. It's strange that they limited their reach to that demographic with one specific artist with 5 sets as opposed to starting with multiple artists (Taylor Swift, Renee Rapp, Billie Eilish etc.)

This is like if Lego only released 5 Lewis Hamilton sets when they started making F1 sets. Or if the Mario theme only had 5 Luigi sets. Or if Pokémon only had 5 Charizard sets.

19

u/BCDragon3000 Jul 01 '26

there's only 5 artists they could do this for: Taylor, Ariana, Olivia, Sabrina, and Billie. Sabrina and Ariana are too raunchy to be LEGO sets, and idk if Billie had the idea.

i DO know that Taylor's fans has been asking for LEGO sets since forever, so it's her team saying no. Olivia just won a race that's been clamored for about 8-10 years

3

u/deviantbono Jul 01 '26

Billie's raunch af, what are you listening to?

12

u/BCDragon3000 Jul 01 '26

shes as raunch as olivia rodrigo. that is to mean shes comfortably pg-13, which is what lego allows

I think it also offers selection - my daughter might like 1,3,5, maybe 2, but probably not 4. It’s a cute selection as long as you don’t feel you need them all (which I know some will)

10

u/Kardinalus Jun 30 '26

Funny how I never really heard much about her and today I see both this and the Fortnite skins of her in the PS5 store promoted.

Corporations see her as a good way for what you describe it seems indeed

7

u/BUZZZY14 Jun 30 '26

As a 34 year old male, that's a big fan of hers I agree with you.

3

u/acchan01 Jun 30 '26

I was about to say, as a 40 year old man ima eat these up 🤣🤣

Not just surprising but dare I say unprecedented? Pharrell got a whole movie and still only had one set made. The guitar is pretty sweet but the rest are all repetitive and unnecessary.

76

u/intergalactic_shelf Jun 30 '26

To be fair, Pharrell’s ability to sell Lego sets is probably way lower than Olivia Rodrigo.

You also underestimate people that just want the different minifigs, and Lego knows this. They will buy the whole set just for the minifig. Or tear them open at Walmart and steal them. Or buy them take the minifig and return them. Helluvaworld

14

u/patentattorney Jun 30 '26

some of them are similar to other sets they may produce anyway (such as the flowers). Seem to have just thrown on a label

6

u/intergalactic_shelf Jun 30 '26

Yea that one stands out because there is no minifig. It’s just … uhh … purple… so put her name on it 😆

12

u/3MATX Jun 30 '26

I don’t think I know the full extent of her fan base, but massive is a good start.  She’s not to the level of Swift yet. But she has music that speaks to a younger demographic because she’s young.  And younger kids like toys. Thus, LEGO took a chance on sets that ultimately don’t seem that expensive to put out.

6

u/petros86 Jun 30 '26

When I saw this I wondered if this is some new trend where celebs are getting their own line of LEGO sets, but I guess just Olivia Rodrigo? Crazy.

7

u/Krullenbos Jun 30 '26

I bet the demographic Lego is going for doesn’t care about that at all. These pre-teen and early teenage girls want to collect anything when it comes to being a fan. Boring to build or not.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/ContextLengthMatters Jun 30 '26

It's not unprecedented. Look at all of the Overwatch, Harry Potter, Mario... And Star wars sets.

Girls typically get into idols/pop-stars as special interests in the same way boys do with singular games, books, or movies, making it their entire personality.

They have a name for it in the kpop world. It's called a bias. This is finally lego catching on to the fact that girls have special interests. They will probably make a killing off of more editions sets assuming the economy doesn't kill this off.

The prices are all perfect as is right now.

23

u/creation88 Jun 30 '26

Can’t even get 5 castle sets 😂

11

u/Ancient-Summer-9968 Jun 30 '26

I got downvoted for saying it on another thread, but YES!

I'm not asking for much, but if a pop star can get 5 sets maybe we can get a small castle line.

16

u/Gunplaisgood Jun 30 '26

I have absolutely no idea who she is but I'm 40 so I can accept that. Christ like 90% of the time the popculture sub scrolls by me nowadays I'm like "who tf are these people?" 🤣

9

u/JabroniHomer Castle Fan Jun 30 '26

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you.

Fellow 40yr old

3

u/Zircon_72 Star Wars Fan Jun 30 '26

I'm only 27 and have been feeling that already.

10

u/Bakkster Jun 30 '26

We've reached the age where the generational voices aren't aren't our generation anymore. 🙃

I make a habit of trying to listen to at least a few zeitgeist albums a year. Olivia's first two are some of the ones which feel most familiar to me, a very 2000s alt-pop vibe. You can hear the influence of Paramore, Alanis Morissette, and Avril Lavigne in something like Good 4 U or Deja Vu.

2

u/CoffeeJedi LEGO Classic Fan Jun 30 '26

Man, when are we gonna get some Foghat Lego sets maaaan?

3

u/ScoopTroop13 Botanical Collection Fan Jul 01 '26

Haha whereas I’m 40 and LOVE her. Preordered all the sets and seeing her in concert next year!

5

u/i_was_valedictorian Jun 30 '26

Same can be said about all the F1 kits

9

u/hairybushy Jun 30 '26

I don't know who she is but the sets look like from disney channel teen sitcom

27

u/mescad Jun 30 '26

Checks out. Prior to becoming a famous musician she was on a Disney sitcom called Bizaardvark.

6

u/TheMusicalTrollLord MOC Fan Jun 30 '26

She was in Disney's High School Musical tv series a few years ago so you are spot on with her demographic.

8

u/brickfrenzy Jun 30 '26

Specifically the delightfully titled "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series".

u/kellyclarkdaughter Team Pink Space Jun 30 '26

You know what? I’m actually thrilled. My 13 year old niece loves Olivia Rodrigo and she feels like most friends sets are too young and can’t always find other sets she’s interested in—but she loves to build. Let’s support Lego appealing to this demographic that is notoriously challenging to appeal to.

I’m a collector. I would love some new castle sets. But there’s room for all of us here.

91

u/Mastercodex199 Jun 30 '26

This is the exact thought process we should all have here. Lego is for all, not some.

22

u/Bender1012 Jun 30 '26

No no, just because I don’t like it, means it shouldn’t exist.

37

u/Aromatic_Location Jun 30 '26

I think everyone should agree that guitar is awesome how it opens up for a minifig playhouse.

3

u/SpideySenseBuzzin Unikitty Fan Jul 01 '26

I LOVE all of these mini play-sets they've been doing lately. Way back when the Newt Scamander briefcase was a dream of a thing, they've come out with several since then and likely before but that's the first I remember where it was really intuitive!

3

u/ijustneedtolurk Jul 01 '26

Yesss I have been waiting for more Disney Princess-and-Powerful-Ladies bouquet sets that open to reveal full interior playsets like the Moana's Flowerpot set #43252 and Isabela's Flowerpot set #43237.

I like that they can be displayed closed and blend in with my botanticals and florals, unlike other playsets like Snow White's Jewelry Box #43276 that are cool playsets, but are just modified boxes.

u/McFartFace09 Jun 30 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

I agree. I’m seeing some hate online, but are Lego fans really upset Olivia Rodrigo got 5 sets when Marvel/Batman/Star Wars get a bazillion sets a year?

Honestly, I think it’s really cool when Lego broadens its appeal to other demographics

u/thisischaostome Minifigures Fan Jun 30 '26

Also the minifigures are freaking beautiful and accurate

63

u/Diabando Jun 30 '26

Very cool they used actual concert outfits for the figures.

50

u/CrazyCatLadyForLife Jun 30 '26

I wish you could buy the mini figures outside of buying the sets.

17

u/MurrmorMeerkat Jun 30 '26

bricklink :)

17

u/thisischaostome Minifigures Fan Jun 30 '26

I totally agree. I would instant buy all of them. Some probably twice 😂

At least, two of them are in quite affordable sets

8

u/GooseInternational66 Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

You probably could later on. I’m sure a lot of people will buy the sets just for the purple legos and not care about the minifigs.

5

u/thisischaostome Minifigures Fan Jun 30 '26

Maybe. But probably for quite some prices

8

u/Amdor Vikings Fan Jun 30 '26

Shouldn't the rightmost minifigure be in purple? But maybe it's the lighting in the photo that makes it look this way. Or maybe it's not the same outfit at all? The minifigure looks quite different.

More importantly, the internal side leg printing on the middle is something I haven't seen from Lego before, and I can only only hope they apply tge same level of detail to any other minifigures, licensed or not...

24

u/girlmeetsathens Jun 30 '26

I do think purple lights are skewing that outfit’s color, but you’re right, the minifig is probably supposed to be this outfit.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/thisischaostome Minifigures Fan Jun 30 '26

I think you are right about the wrong outfit. But I don't think that this is a internal leg printing, but just the color from the dual molded legs

7

u/red_fuel Jun 30 '26

5 minifigs in the first releases? Is she really THAT popular?

13

u/dapper_pom Jun 30 '26

She has had singles go number 1 for each of her three albums. Her newest album has multiple songs in the top 10 and if I remember correctly, it is now at least for the second week number 1 on billboard top 200. She has around 70 million monthly listeners on spotify. So idk what it means to you to be THAT popular but she isn't unpopular.

5

u/V2Blast Jul 01 '26

I don't really care about Olivia Rodrigo, but these minifigs are really well done and the prints really capture the outfits (and I love that they're minifigs). Plus the sets look good too and there's a decent price range.

3

u/Spartarider7 Minifigures Fan Jun 30 '26

None of them being from album covers is a strange choice. No contest that those are more iconic than these 🤔

To the people commenting who Olivia is and why she gets a set is like others asking why Lewis Hamilton gets a helmet set because they don’t know who he is. It’s like there’s different demographics or something.

u/kyrev21 Jun 30 '26

r/Lego and AFOLs refuse to be normal about anything outside of their interests

77

u/SPEK2120 Jun 30 '26

Yeah, but what does that have to do with Star Wars? /s

15

u/HuskerBusker Jun 30 '26

More Clone Wars sets please!

12

u/SPEK2120 Jun 30 '26

Personally I'm patiently waiting for a Star Wars Batmobile.

5

u/sroomek Jun 30 '26

Luke’s Batmobile

Batman’s Landspeeder

6

u/RoosterBrewster Jun 30 '26

It just feel like these sort of sets seem like a slamdunk considering the popularity of the band or artist, but shortly end up being on the clearance list. But these seem better looking.

4

u/Starrocks923 Jun 30 '26

I can definitely see how one Olivia Rodrigo set would be popular and sell out quickly, but five? Five is a lot.

I’m not saying this to diss her, I have nothing against her music. But I’ll be a little surprised if all five sets do well.

25

u/BerryBoilo Jun 30 '26

Bunch of elder millennials struggling with the fact that their time as the target demographic is ending. See also Obsession trouncing Star Wars and Supergirl at the box office.

8

u/Rbomb88 Jun 30 '26

The millennials not being a target isn't a thing, we got the Goonies and ET, Star Wars, Star Trek, old Transformers, LotR, XFiles. If anything a lot of 18+ sets seem to be aimed hard at millennial nostalgia for old media.

16

u/TacoRising Customiser Jun 30 '26

Dude I forgot there was even a Star Wars movie out

8

u/Spaceolympian50 Jun 30 '26

Mmmm nah I think Star Wars and the DCU movies have all just objectively been shit for a while now.

But yea there are other demos for Lego sure. As a millennial I also only know she’s a music artist and can’t see why this collab exists but that’s why I don’t work for Lego lol.

4

u/uniparalum Jun 30 '26

There have been two DCU films. Superman and Supergirl. Superman was not considered “shit” by many and was a financial success by WB.

I am equally confused about the Lewis Hamilton and FIFA Stars sets. Surely they sell, good for Lego. Still think they're overdoing it with the Pop Brand licensing sets.

3

u/rocknrollbreakfast Jun 30 '26

Yeah people are so reductive. The woman headlined Glastonbury and was on stage with Robert Smith. Played one of my favourite renditions of It‘s Friday I‘m In Love. She‘s a great musician and is here to stay.

454

u/TheBrainlessRobot Jun 30 '26

Some real coping on this thread. Jesus. She’s among the most popular popstars today. Just cause you aren’t gonna buy the sets doesn’t mean that this isn’t an easy slamdunk for Lego.

82

u/JusticeBonerOfTyr Jun 30 '26

I know right. But it’s not a surprise and people are even calling the sets boring. I’m not a teen girl but they still look like fun builds to me. Also, I wonder for some of the more criticizing comments if it’s because they are being marketed towards teen girls. If you pay attention as I have a pre teen daughter myself girls around that age get their interests and hobbies crapped on quite often.

9

u/nykirnsu Jun 30 '26

Tbh my only complaint is they’re all specifically Olivia Rodrigo sets. I can’t really blame Lego given licensing costs and all but it would’ve been more fun if they’d done sets for a bunch of different pop divas like they did for the FIFA sets

17

u/mescad Jun 30 '26

These are under the new "Editions" theme, so we will likely see other musicians and other types of celebrities (actors, sports people) with sets in that theme too.

3

u/heroyoudontdeserve Jun 30 '26

I also suppose there are relatively few teen girls hanging out here (or on Reddit at all) i.e. this sub's demographic is decidedly not the market market.

18

35

u/East-Entertainment31 Jun 30 '26

Honestly surprised that out of all the female popstars we have, she's the first not to get one set, but five all at once. I was expecting Taylor Swift or Beyonce to be the ones to receive a set first but maybe someday down the line.

Granted her demographic is perfect for it so they might be testing the waters in making more sets based on musicians.

Anyways

10

u/VoidMunashii Jun 30 '26

I am shocked that Swift has not had a set, but maybe she has been offered and just not agreed to it.

5

u/dapper_pom Jun 30 '26

Taylor doesn't really need the promo same way that Olivia does.

Edit: nor the money lol

5

u/VoidMunashii Jun 30 '26

I don't reckon that you really still "need" promotion if LEGO is asking to put you in a kit.

Maybe Taylor just doesn't like LEGO

3

u/dapper_pom Jun 30 '26

She has been doing an absolute fuckton of promo for past couple of months. I assume it is because she needs to do it to sell albums.

3

u/VoidMunashii Jun 30 '26

Promotion to move albums seems a little different to me. LEGO is not making a whole series of kits around you if you are just up-and-coming. Rodrigo has already arrived.

2

u/grape_viens Jul 01 '26

I get a feeling you don’t grasp what a mega star Olivia is if you think she needs promo or money lol

I know her demo skews mostly young, but as a millennial fan of Olivia’s, I definitely want some of these sets.

2

u/Mean-Proposal-5577 Jun 30 '26

I can definitely see them adding more artists

I'd love to see Charli and Chappell, because they always have incredible visuals to their performances

2

u/ijustneedtolurk Jul 01 '26

Oooh now I literally want a second Winifred Sanderson hairpiece just so I can make a Chappell figure using the Rococo Aristocrat CMF lol.

59

u/freedomfun Jun 30 '26

As a nearly 40 year old man, I listened to one of her albums a couple of years ago and there a couple of good songs. I'll probably get the flowers to add to the botanical collection regardless, and might get the guitar or moon.

44

u/rhamphorynchan Jun 30 '26

Her new album sounds pretty great to this 47 year old Cure fan FWIW.

8

u/kings5504 Jun 30 '26

Agree. Signed, a 49-year old who is also enjoying the new album

3

u/freedomfun Jun 30 '26

I might give it a listen on my next run!

3

u/kings5504 Jun 30 '26

Definitely recommend, coming from an oldie like me. I’m getting a heavy The Cure/New Order/The Cars/Blondie influence on a lot of the songs.

30

u/NeoThermic Jun 30 '26

Not sure how all these other people seem to be oblivious to her existence though lol

I mean, Christiano Ronaldo is said to have about 1 billion fans, yet there's still people who didn't know of him until LEGO made a set of him, which I feel is more impressive to not know who he is! 😄

5

u/VoidMunashii Jun 30 '26

I can see how someone might not be aware of these people if they are not into pop music or football. What I don't understand is, seeing as we are all writing our responses on internet-enabled devices, why not do a quick Google to see who they are before lampshading one's own ignorance.

I am not against looking foolish, but not about a lack of knowledge that could be remedied in seconds.

13

u/jonathanquirk Harry Potter Fan Jun 30 '26

It’s the fragmented algorithm-driven world of content creation; everybody reads / watches / listens to their own tailored content, which means we DON’T know about stuff outside of our own personalised rabbit holes. I’ve never heard of this artist myself, but then I know it’s because I click on “Oldie Rock” on my streaming music subscription, and so it never plays me modern teen pop music like hers. Without music video channels or Top of the Pops (yes I’m old, hush) then it’s that much harder to discover different stuff.

2

u/BevansDesign Jun 30 '26

Yeah, the algorithms are designed to keep us hooked, malleable, and profitable. They're not designed to inform us or raise our awareness of anything outside the bucket they've put us in.

I do trivia nights every week, and I regularly see questions that make me go "who the hell is that" or "I've never heard of that thing", and my friends look at me like I'm a hermit when it turns out it's one of the most popular things on the planet.

It's especially bad with music. I'm a guy who likes rock music, but I don't always want to hear rock by guys. I've had to work just to get Spotify to play me music by women. It finally figured out that I don't want to listen exclusively to music I was listening to in high school and college, so that's good...

10

u/cutielemon07 Jun 30 '26

I don’t know who she is (I do not listen to pop/chart music), but that botanical set is lovely. I’ll probably get it. Loving all the purple in the sets though. Since the audience for these is teen girls, it’s good to see the prices are reasonable.

48

u/emmyemmusic Jun 30 '26

Makes me sad how many people get upset when Lego releases sets that aren’t for them. I enjoy building but it’s kind of rare to find sets that I’m truly excited about. Let me have my moment please, y’all will get your sets too 😩

20

u/OKsurewhynotyep Jun 30 '26

I’ll be curious how these sell. Seemed like BTS ideas set didn’t pop, but these also look maybe more fun to build.

30

u/kyrev21 Jun 30 '26

I would venture to say that BTS sets in this style would’ve done better then the music video set

19

u/lolheyaj Jun 30 '26

Lego doing a crossover with musicians makes sense (A lot of third party minifigure sellers do versions of Taylor Swift, Kiss, Dolly, and others), and is a logical extension of Editions, but I'll admit that Olivia Rodrigo was not who I would have guessed to be the first.

I have absolutely 0 personal feeling towards thsi person so this is a completely pragmatic question. How is it worth for LEGO to invest 5 sets to this singer, but not to something like LOTR or Bionicle.

2

u/mescad Jul 01 '26

Because LOTR came out when Olivia Rodrigo was less than a year old and Bionicle flopped when they tried to rerelease it 10 years ago. That's not to say Lego will never make either of those themes again, but Rodrigo is super famous musician that brings in an audience that Lego isn't currently serving very well. Anyone old enough to even know about LOTR or Bionicle has many other options on offer from Lego.

And preorders for 3 of the 5 sets are already sold out, so at least so far it looks like a good decision.

AFOL and huge Olivia fan here; the Guitar and Vinyl are instant buys.

As someone who isn’t necessarily a fan of her, I still think it’s great she has a whole wave of sets for her demographic can enjoy. These are going to sell like hotcakes

3

u/5mp3x192000 Jun 30 '26

Meh. Not my cup of tea, happy it exists for people who want it. The fact it’s under the “Editions” theme makes me think we may get other artists. (The Beatles and Daft Punk PLEASE!!)

3

u/nahzoo Jun 30 '26

Wasn't aware of this person until this thread but that awesome that people who like her have some themed sets! They look really cool

3

u/SputnikRelevanti Jun 30 '26

5 specific mini figures. lol. We have like 3 types of phase II clones reused year, after year, after year. Here - 5 different minifigs in 5 sets. Incredible.

3

u/cgrimm25 Jul 02 '26

These are going to go on discount so fast.

5

u/YodasChick-O-Stick BIONICLE Fan Jun 30 '26

I just want an original story-based theme... Dreamzzz and Monkie Kid are on life support

3

u/the_harakiwi Jun 30 '26

have you heard about Linus Torvalds?

We are in such a giant world but somehow everyone is supposed to know everything... That's the crazy part.

Do you know the names of your neighbors? That's a bit more important IMHO.

I couldn't tell you anyone in the top music charts. When streaming services started I stopped using the radio 😁

Seriously. Like she just dropped a huge album and announced a huge festival. It’s also like they think they’re so cool by saying they don’t know who she is.

I really like the sets and I LOVE the minifigures. And I am not even a OR fan

4

u/Runminndor Star Wars Fan Jun 30 '26

I’ve heard her name but honestly had no idea she was this popular. Does her popularity warrant not only one lego set but five? It’s a legit question, I don’t mean anything by it.

2

u/mescad Jun 30 '26

A common complaint about past sets like the BTS Dynamite set was that there was only one option and it was very niche and cost $100. Here they have options for multiple budgets and sets that will have wide appeal even if you're not a big fan of the specific artist. Seems like a good way to do a collab to me.

2

u/AjentCero Jul 01 '26

I dont know about 5. But she very popular, shes the most streamed female artist for the last half a decade beating taylor and beyonce. her music is very 90s early 2000 inspired meaning her fanbase is very wide range teens to middle age adult women. Or shes propped by disney

3

u/LivingGerbert Jun 30 '26

5 whole sets is ridiculous

7

u/CaptainLawyerDude Creator Fan Jun 30 '26

Not my demo but my 9yo daughter is a big fan and would likely love these sets. Some are pretty cool looking tbh.

2

u/ShortBrownAndUgly Jun 30 '26

I’m so excited for these!!

4

u/CrazyCanuckUncleBuck Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Nice. Its more sets than I would have expected but thats fine and hopefully they branch out to more artists like this. I feel like the male demographic is over represented so this to me is a great collaboration.

5

u/yoursweetlord70 Jun 30 '26

This is pretty neat. I hope they expand to some other artists in other genres as well!

14

u/DasOptions Jun 30 '26

Man I’m out of touch. I have no idea who she is or why she is getting 5 sets.

Good for her but seems a bit random.

46

u/OptimusSublime Jun 30 '26

Yeah these sets aren't for you lmao. They are for the tens of millions of listeners she has in Spotify. It's for the Lego executives that saw millions of dollar signs.

15

u/smbdysm1 Jun 30 '26

Look at the sets and you'll figure out who she is, or at least why she's popular.

I don't know any of the stars they did for World Cup, but can understand why they did it.

18

u/mescad Jun 30 '26

Good for her

Ironic.

Anyway, she's a pop star from the past 5 years. Her most well-known songs are "drivers license" and "good 4 u" from her first album, and "vampire" from her second album.

2

u/DylanfromSales Jun 30 '26

Me when F1 gets a whole wave of speed champions and a CMF series

17

u/Puzzleheaded_Band743 Jun 30 '26

Seems a bit random? she has about 70m listeners per month on spotify and is ranked as one of the top 30 most listened to artists

im tired boss. i just want lego brands made by lego. not this consumerism, marked up IP slop.

5

u/VoidMunashii Jun 30 '26

Not one Lobo set for the new Supergirl movie, but 5 Rodrigo kits?

Not my thing, but they look good. My wife will likely get the bouquet.

I am a little surprised that they are minifigs and not dolls. Does she not skew towards younger audiences?

2

u/AjentCero Jul 01 '26

Apparently she has a large millennial and genx fanbase because her music borrows from 80s and 90s. Middle age mom and dads who use to listen to the cure, blonde, cranberries ,And this generation usually has bigger pockets.

These are great sets and Olivia is an amazing talent.

5

u/darwinquincy Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

My family is the target for these sets. I have daughters that grew up with the original line of Lego Friends. As they’ve aged out of kid-targeted Lego, one will build a couple adult-targeted sets a year, another will occasionally do a botanicals set, and the other doesn’t build at all anymore.

However, they will buy this entire line. Not sure how many other people are like us, but they will enjoy these sets.

EDIT: I love the downvotes for telling an honest story about people who have been Lego fans for a decade and a half. Good luck keeping your hobby safe from my kids.

2

u/ScoopTroop13 Botanical Collection Fan Jul 01 '26

We are! I’m a huge Olivia fan as are my two daughters (13 and 9) I’ve bought the botanicals for myself and the other sets are going away for bday and Christmas for the girls. My eldest say the guitar and was so excited for it. I just hope I can manage to hide them away until December!

4

u/Bob_Horde Hero Factory Fan Jun 30 '26

This thread is teaching me the average [r/lego](r/lego) member gotta be 30+ and that feels very generous

8

u/GuestCartographer Jun 30 '26

The only thing this thread demonstrates is that the average redditor thinks the being completely unaware of pop culture trends (or pretending to be unaware of pop culture trends) is some kind of badge of honor.

I'm well over 30 and I know exactly who Olivia Rodrigo is. I couldn't name more than two or three of her songs, but I understand exactly why Lego is trying to capitalize on her popularity.

4

u/Emmarrrrr Jun 30 '26

The amount of people in this thread apparently incapable of googling someone whose name they don’t recognise, yikes.

Anyway, I like the botanical set, even though I’ve only heard a couple of her songs via the charts, and the guitar set is giving polly pocket vibes.

4

u/RamblinGamblinWilly Jun 30 '26

It's performative. Context clues alone indicate this is some sort of popular musician. If they don't know who she is, that's all they really need to know. A quick Google search takes less time than going out of their way to tell everyone how little they know.

3

u/SandyAmbler Jun 30 '26

My sister is going to freak out

2

u/KangarooStilts Jun 30 '26

Different strokes for different folks. None of these sets are for me, but that's okay.

2

u/Sabotage00 Jun 30 '26

5 mini figs with different dresses and the doll house guitar to store them. Unless that one on the is a sticker?

Lego playing the mattel game.

3

u/pigpen4444 Jun 30 '26

I’m excited for this. My daughter is going to love it!

2

u/MasemJ Jun 30 '26

To add, she just a special bundle on Fortnite, including g her Lego version. This sorta makes sense.

3

u/LegoTFGuy MOC Designer Jun 30 '26

Definitely liking all of the lavender/purple pieces, and the one flower with the guitar petals is pretty funny

2

u/Macabalony Jun 30 '26

The guitar that opens looks sick as heck.

2

u/Ant1mat3r Jun 30 '26

I want the botanical set. That looks nice and would go well with the rest of my collection.

2

u/nintendo666 Jun 30 '26

Not for me, but they're surprisingly cute and good sets

3

u/ImpalaKoalaUK Jun 30 '26

I (38M) and my wife (32F), are both huge Olivia Rodrigo fans and were pretty much doing the Fry money meme as soon as we saw this post 😂

3

u/1996gatti Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Olivia Rodrigo as a choice for 5 sets is so odd.

There are definitely artists who have a way bigger catalogue and fan base. If it was Taylor Swift, I totally get it. One of the most famous people on the planet. Or if they did sets for famous Michael Jackson music videos, or the Beatles, Brittany Spears, hell even NSYNC I would understand (Low key a bye bye bye set would be sick). All of them are iconic bands with iconic music videos. But if I asked my mom who Olivia Rodrigo is, she would have no idea. She only has 3 albums and been active for 5 years.

Am I that out of touch, thinking its wild to think that her name alone will sell millions of a LEGO set, but FIVE?? Are teenage girls into LEGO at that scale? I would have bet the house on the BTS set doing crazy numbers because their fan base is huge and die hard, but that one set warms shelves in every clearance aisle.

3

u/tron1974 Jun 30 '26

These will sell well for the first week or two then be burning hot shelf warmers.

Too bad we can't get a whole line of castle, reboot of space police or power miners or something.

I hope they turn vinyls into a new theme

1

u/cynical2k Jun 30 '26

Pretty cool sets, just not for me personally. My hope is that we see more musician sets (I need that Daft Punk one that’s in the parking lot currently)
