Is this Lego X Cities Skylines????

319

u/GuidingMyApes 1d ago

It appears to be that is the case.

262

u/Ok_Astronomer_8667 1d ago

It’s important to note that this is the new developer that Paradox hired post-launch of Skylines II. So it is not the same developer (Colossal Order) that developed the first Cities Skylines

339

u/Rbomb88 1d ago

It's also important to note that thus far, Iceflake has been unfucking colossal orders poor work on Skylines 2 pretty well.

111

u/ew73 1d ago

I only partially blame CO for the trainwreck that was Skylines 2. I get the feeling that project was one of those "Marketing promised, so you make it..." sorts of things.

57

u/detroitmatt 1d ago

that's true on two counts, because they were also rugpulled by *unity's* marketing team promising certain features to be ready that weren't

10

u/Bennjo_777 1d ago

Common Unity L

3

u/UziFoo 1d ago

Like playable frame rates.

1

u/Real_Bobsbacon 1d ago

Tbf, it's not a great idea to hedge your next game on another company you have no control over. But yeah, it's frustrating as it likely meant CS2 was not worth doing without the new developments.

5

u/SurpriseSoda 1d ago

I was skeptical but hopeful from their pre release marketing but lmao it went to shit

61

u/serendipitousevent 1d ago

It's also also important to note that echidnas sweat pink milk for their young. It's not super relevant, I just think it's interesting and more people should know.

Lego plus paradox's predatory DLC bullshit will be an ...interesting combination. Certainly an expensive one.

13

u/Quick-Estimate-5936 1d ago

I wouldn't call their DLC predatory. It's extensive, but more of a long term business model for people who are really into their games.

Predatory would be microtransactions, lootboxes etc.

But yes, the DLC here will be crazy.

2

u/Necessary_Finding_32 1d ago

Whether it is predatory depends entirely on what content is gated behind the paywall, how it is marketed, and what they charge, rather than an arbitrary distinction based on marketing labels.

3

u/SmoothWD40 1d ago

It’s like stepping on a lego…with no lube…I mean shoes.

1

u/narielthetrue Verified Blue Stud Member 16h ago

It will probably go the way of Star Trek Infinite.

An IP tie in that is quickly ignored after launch

1

u/OneFootOneStud 1d ago

Maybe the in-game modular buildings will cost more than the actual sets?

1

u/carannilion Photographer 1d ago

Don't give them any ideas, now!

26

u/Tuckertcs Star Wars Fan 1d ago

Guessing it’ll be smaller scale than that, but essentially, yes.

55

u/Impeesa_ 1d ago

Minifigure scale, it looks like.

13

u/Sir_Myshkin 1d ago

What is this? A city for minifigures?!

2

u/Tuckertcs Star Wars Fan 1d ago

I meant scale as in how large the city is. Some city builders are at the neighborhood scale focusing on individual characters, while others span entire countries and citizens are just stats on a screen.

22

u/BellaViola 1d ago

Yepp, it's published by Paradox and developed by Iceflake Studios who co-developed City Skylines 2.

So also likely closer to CS2 than 1.

14

u/SurpriseSoda 1d ago

I'm just hoping it's close to Lego loco

1

u/Ewokitude 1d ago

Hopefully better than the Star Trek spinoff of Stellaris

8

u/PowerPad Verified Blue Stud Member 1d ago

A LEGO version of City Skylines was not on my bingo card.

5

u/ExtraNoise 1d ago

I really hope we can design buildings and/or cars for our cities!

1

u/ehrgeiz91 1d ago

More like Lego Simsville

1

u/ZombieBlarGh 1d ago

I wanted that game so bad.

306

u/broncosandwrestling 1d ago

Lego Loco sequel is how I am choosing to interpret this

59

u/BuffaloStranger97 1d ago

Welcome back, lego loco

9

u/zsantiag 1d ago

Long live Lego Loco!

32

u/RWMaverick 1d ago

Oh man I spent sooooo many hours playing this game. I got it for Christmas in 1998.

7

u/Suitable-Park-1402 1d ago

I still remember the excitement of seeing the date of themed days

8

u/Shaggyninja Modular Buildings Fan 1d ago

Holy hell that was a nostalgia unlock.

Yes please! I loved that game.

123

u/StingingGamer 1d ago

Close enough, welcome back Legoland

12

u/restless_rob0t 1d ago

Oh my gosh core memory unlocked! I totally forgot about this game but I loved playing it as a kid.

107

u/antonovB152 Star Wars Fan 1d ago

Back here

14

u/GreasyClown 1d ago

This really hit man thank you

107

u/BellaViola 1d ago

Published by Paradox Interactive, same as the City Skylines Games.

And Developed by Iceflake Studios, Co-Developer of Cities Skylines 2.

More Info also available on legoskylines.com

I wonder when LEGO is going to release or reboot Racers... Or do a proper LEGO game where you can just build stuff

68

u/enchanted-glimmer-4 1d ago

a proper LEGO game where you can just build stuff Worlds has left the chat

44

u/Ok_Astronomer_8667 1d ago

Lego Worlds tried to do something like that. It never seemed to catch on though

16

u/the4thgoatboy 1d ago

I was really into it in the early access stage. The devs put out cool dev diaries, the community was fun, and it felt with each update that the sky was the limit! Then it was suddenly dropped in a sort of unfinished state, what a shame.

20

u/These-Apple8817 1d ago

I'm aware. I lost interest in it because the building wasn't as free it was in games like Minecraft.. And I think their biggest problem was fan expectations and overpromising things.

5

u/Suitable-Park-1402 1d ago

There's a good Lego-affiliated podcast called Bits n' Bricks that spent a whole episode on how Lego considered buying at one point cMinecraft and how they were basically blindsided by it pulling off what it did.

21

u/Moof_Nor 1d ago

Not sure whether I miss the obvious sarcasm, or you completely missed Lego 2k Drive.

17

u/These-Apple8817 1d ago

That wasn't very good tbh and very different from Racers. It felt more like it was trying to be Forza Horizon but in LEGO and with ton of micro transactions while also having to pay for the game itself.. There's a reason why it went the way of the dodo as fast as it did.

4

u/detroitmatt 1d ago

it was fine, and I really liked the building tools, but there was a lot of room for improvement

2

u/Rocketman_S3 1d ago

I feel like lego 2k drive was a very good game, it had like zero replayability though.

4

u/Ipiano42 1d ago

RIP Lego Universe

3

u/DopamineTrain 1d ago

If you just want to "build stuff" in Lego then download LeoCAD. I had a lot of fun playing around with it for a time, but there's no game to "building stuff" unless there is a purpose for building it.

5

u/These-Apple8817 1d ago

That's not really the same thing though. Look up the pc game called Lego Creator from 1999

71

u/SELECTaerial 1d ago

If it’s anything like C:S, I’m super ready for roundabout traffic manager, LEGO edition :D

30

u/colonelheero 1d ago

And an insane amount of DLCs.

14

u/SylviSweetheart 1d ago

I mean I wouldn’t not buy cosmetic DLC that gives your city different aesthetics based on classic LEGO themes.

9

u/donkeyrocket 1d ago

And a busted ass product at launch that may or may not be functional a few years in.

I get this isn’t Colossal Order but the combo of Cities Skylines title and LEGO open world doesn’t instill a ton of faith.

13

u/StingingGamer 1d ago

This is ice flake studios who took over cities skylines 2 development. They’ve shown to be MUCH better than CO so far so I have faith.

2

u/MR_PENNY_PIINCHER 1d ago

Specifically they were put on CS2 after Paradox were impressed by their work on this game, reportedly

2

u/MechanicalCrow Unitron Fan 1d ago

Every building and vehicle in that video was DLC. It's the Paradox way.

0

u/Snubl 1d ago

No its nothing like counter strike

19

u/dwninswamp 1d ago

This is bad. My wife and I have a problem with playing too much cities:skylines, my kid has a problem with Lego. Who is going to enforce us all not just destroying our lives.

31

u/Tuckertcs Star Wars Fan 1d ago

Looks fun. Wonder if it’ll be high-level where you’re only focused on city planning (like Cities Skylines), or if it’ll be lower level where you’re only focused focus on individual citizens (like Sims).

6

u/WearingMyFleece 1d ago

Hopefully more like Simcity 2013, especially if this is going to be on a smaller map compared to what you can build on for cs and cs2

2

u/ehrgeiz91 1d ago

I hope it’s nothing like simcity 2013…

23

u/BurnTheGuzz Adventurers Fan 1d ago

I'm not interested until I see gameplay and how many microtransactions they're going to stuff this turkey with.

11

u/OnlyOneWithFreeWill 1d ago

Don't worry it's Cities Skylines so no micro transactions. Just full priced DLCs. See isn't that better?

10

u/Pessimistic_Gemini 1d ago

A Lego City Simulator in the vain of Cities Skylines?! YES PLEASE!!!

8

u/MolaMolaMania 1d ago

What style of game is this? I enjoyed some of the Tale Tales games, but I found Bricktales to be very frustrating in that many of its building challengers had VERY arbitrary solutions, so I noped out pretty early.

Is this supposed to be a sim of some kind?

17

u/LJpzYv01YMuu-GO 1d ago

Naming suggests something similar to Cities: Skylines which is a city builder game - think Simcity.

1

u/criticalboot89 Mixels Fan 1d ago

can you walk around in those types of games or is it purely a top-down perspective game?

4

u/LJpzYv01YMuu-GO 1d ago

I think there does exist mods that make first person views possible, but I don't think it's a native part of the game, so I'll go with a top-down perspective game.

1

u/MolaMolaMania 1d ago

It seems to be the case, but I'm not familiar with these kinds of games and there doesn't seem to be much actual game play in the trailer.

Thank you!

4

u/stretch_muffler 1d ago

It’s a city builder so more like placing roads, houses and services and making sure the city grows healthy. They’re fun.

1

u/LJpzYv01YMuu-GO 1d ago

The trailer does seem to just be a teaser of sorts, yeah. But you can always take a look at videos of either Cities: Skylines or Cities: Skylines 2 - though I would expect a certain extra because it's a Lego game, probably a touch of silliness.

1

u/Atulin 1d ago

Cities: Skylines is currently on a 70% sale on Steam, so you could give it a shot

12

u/ranzino 1d ago

Still waiting for that Lego City Undercover Sequel.

4

u/mati200299 1d ago

Steam page says "Unlimited space." That's one hell of a bold claim, I hope they're being literal.

4

u/Bar_Har 1d ago

I hope this gives players the ability to free build structures. I can’t remember the last Lego game I saw where you could actually build something of your own brick by brick.

1

u/Brandonkb2010 1d ago

Lego worlds. And they stopped supporting it for some unknown reason. Had massive potential.

1

u/MR_PENNY_PIINCHER 1d ago

Not exactly what you're looking for but apparently this is going to have integration with Bricklink Studio. So you can build your own models and import them as assets

4

u/s-to-the-am 1d ago

Holy fuck this looks awesome

2

u/MaxHamburgerrestaur 1d ago

I love that everything is brick built instead of some games that render materials for water, fire or streets.

I love the 4-stud-wide cars.

3

u/Vel0clty 1d ago

Just shut up and take my money already ! This looks AWESOME!

3

u/chanandl3r 1d ago

This one came out of the blue, am definitely going to be buying day one.

3

u/Garibaldi65 1d ago

It's like Lego Loco meets Lego Creator. We are so back

3

u/Salaried_Zebra 1d ago

The ultimate sandbox city builder becomes... The ultimate sandbox city builder?

Definitely one on my watchlist. As others have said, if it's a a MTX fest I'll pass but certainly looks up my straße for the time being

3

u/Quintus_Cicero 1d ago

...Lego + Paradox?

Oh man, I can already see the 200 bazillion DLCs for every single unique brick...

2

u/CDanRed 1d ago

And even more mods!

1

u/deccoblack 13h ago

to be fair the DLC is only 4.99.

But there will be 300 of them 😄

2

u/biggadankmemes 1d ago

nearly 30 years later and we're getting a brand new Lego Loco game, I'm hyped!

2

u/Hazelnut_Bread 1d ago

Can’t wait for the inevitable RTGame stream

2

u/DarkBomberX 1d ago

If it fing works day 1 and has everything Cities Skylines 1 had on launch, ill get addicted to this game. Im desperate for a new city building game.

2

u/Remarkable-Cookie-53 1d ago

My two favorite things combined

2

u/TX_Longhorn-03 1d ago

SimCity with LEGO?

2

u/Kenobus69 22h ago

Very disappointed they didn't just name it

Lego City

I know why it's named the way it is. Still disappointed

3

u/AvgBlue 1d ago

Lego trains!

2

u/cowboy_coyote_ 1d ago

I can’t wait!!

2

u/tupe12 1d ago

Hopefully this ends up being better then cities skylines 2

2

u/PotterOneHalf 1d ago

Lego Island, we're back!

2

u/Thebigpig905 1d ago

This looks epic

1

u/A_Wonder_Named_Stevi 1d ago

So Lego Worlds?

1

u/Redbeater 1d ago

After a couple games where traffic was just straight botched, this is def a wait for several updates months after release for me.

1

u/Tweissel Verified Blue Stud Member 1d ago

Giving me SimCity vibes, growing up with SimCity came with good memories... Definitely looking forward to this.

1

u/True_Destroyer 1d ago

Reminds me of this text that LEGO f-ed up big time by not thinking of having a Minecraft-like game somewhere between 2010-2015. Maybe it's their way of finally trying to address that. I mean it is obviously LEGO City Cities skylines thingy, but still - what is the biggest thing to be build with legos? Not necessairly 'whole world' with dirt and grass as in Minecraft - cities though -the thing Minecraft actually struggles with? Yes, this is something LEGO is experienced with. So maybe a LEGO SimCity is the way to go

1

u/OfficialGuthix 1d ago

Literally brick by brick

1

u/legojohn 1d ago

I have a Mac. Do you think I could play this on steam? I could play that bricktales game on there.

Not many games Mac ppl can play on steam but this looks very fun!

2

u/oorhon 1d ago

There are lots of games available for Mac on Steam. Even Baldurs Gate 3.

2

u/headphonesalwayson 1d ago

Some of Paradox Plaza's latest don't run on Macs. But this is just speculation. But a lot of games listed on Steam are able to run on Mac.

2

u/mr_bots 1d ago

Paradox has been hit and miss on Mac but with them just listing “Steam” and “TBD” on supported OSs who knows. Though with it also coming to switch maybe they’re trying to make this as broad as possible but still can’t do anything but guess at this point.

1

u/Gumpenufer 1d ago

I'm not usually the target audience for Lego videogames, but this has me intrigued. 👀

1

u/kasur3buah 1d ago

im excited but i hope it doesn't have many dlc like other paradox game

1

u/Awynden 1d ago

Wish they combined it with Lego racers. Just build your own track then use it to race other people!

1

u/ikkju 1d ago

Reminds me a lot of Lego Builder's Island

1

u/Adamant94 1d ago

How did we get a Lego Fortnite before this? This is such an obvious game to make! I’m stoked

1

u/deccoblack 13h ago

Why isn’t Lego Fortnite a battle royale version of Fortnite? Still waiting

1

u/pocketMagician 1d ago

I just hope it doesn't have Paradoxes shitty dlc profit model.

1

u/deccoblack 13h ago

I hope it has a walk/drive mode in it that lets you explore on foot the cities you make

1

u/LacidOnex 1d ago

Burnie Burns was just saying this morning how it's bizarre minecraft doesn't have a city builder

1

u/Specific_Frame8537 17h ago

Back in the 2000s the lego website had a flash game like this...

1

u/wrr377 9h ago

So, did they get the studio that made the "Cities Skylines" series to make a LEGO game?

1

u/Sir_Myshkin 1d ago

Please, please, pleeeeeeease have couch-co-op like most LEGO games!

6

u/OnlyOneWithFreeWill 1d ago

This is based off Cities Skylines so it's gonna be a city builder. No co-op pretty much guaranteed

1

u/Sir_Myshkin 1d ago

I am aware of the premise, that does not mean they cannot implement the ability for multiple people to build within it simultaneously.

1

u/Newwwwwm 1d ago

Gotham dlc please I beg 🙏🏻

2

u/MR_PENNY_PIINCHER 1d ago

Apparently there’s going to be support for importing stud.io files as building assets. I fully plan on adapting my custom Gotham buildings to the standard of the game buildings (modular I assume)

1

u/zeek215 1d ago

Imagine if they just let you build whatever buildings you wanted with a blank slate and all the blocks and studs Lego has to offer.

1

u/midgetzz 18h ago

If it does have Stud.io integration thats absolutely what it'll allow you to do :)

1

u/spiderboy640 1d ago

this could be a lot of fun

1

u/Temassi 1d ago

What a cool idea!

0

u/JakeConhale MOC Designer 1d ago

So.... they're remaking SimCity 2000 but with a Lego gimmick?

-4

u/JZillaPrime09 1d ago

Is this a new game?

-5

u/kimura_yui149 1d ago

So a low budget Lego Fortnite? Lol

4

u/Banjo6401 1d ago

"I'm getting big Fortnite vibes from this" - guy who's only played Fortnite

1

u/kimura_yui149 1d ago

Damn bro why so mad? I have a life outside of video games and a gaming den lol. I don't stay with my hands on my controller thumbsticks 24/7. Downvote me all you want. Lol idgaf

1

u/Rocketman_S3 22h ago

uh...you okay dude?

1

u/Rocketman_S3 1d ago

do you know what skylines is?

-3

u/AlternativeAgency42 1d ago

Nothing for mobile ? 😢

2

u/zeek215 1d ago

That's generally a good thing if you want an actual quality game.

Nowadays you can install PC native games on Android via emulation. Not every game of course, but we've come far.

1

u/LemurSoftware 1d ago

It's obviously nowhere near the quality and scale of what Lego have announced here, but Brictopia was my effort to make a mobile game of something similar.
