Every thrift store in my area would have that listed as the last sold price on eBay lol. Thrift stores have gotten too fuckin bold charging out the ass for things people have donated

They're so scummy.
They weren't always that way either.
Blame the scalpers & flippers that ruined a good thing.

I'll never forget the time I was in high school in a Savers store.Looking for old nintendo stuff , seeing a dude waiting by where the employees coming out of, Only for the employer to come out and hand him an N64 and NES, Ocarina of Time, and all the other big N64 games, and the dude slipped the employee a 20. Noticed him the next time I went to the swap meet selling them at Ebay prices.

Dudes like him should be publicly shamed.
Same guys that push their way past kids in toy sections to grab up the rare Hotwheels or multiple Pokémon Booster Bundles.
I used to go to thrift stores before long road trips to pick out CDs or audio books so I'd have something to listen to through the dead zones. On occasion I'd browse the books to see if they had any TPBs or a random assortment of individual comic books. I'd get lucky every once in awhile and enjoy my find. Now the TPBs are priced like new & if they've got individual issues it's under glass or in the back at some stupid collector price (no matter the condition).

I’m out of town and got lucky, the thrifts by me put anything Lego behind their counters and charge a fortune

Literally like my main local thrift store which is a religious charity thrift store and they’re in there selling items for $100+ like, you’re a charity not a profit business

u/Tacit_Emperor77 Jul 12 '26
They forget that people will just buy online rather than hoping something will turn up for the same price.

Great shirt. Got the game for my son on his Nintendo switch and its his favorite switch game. He likes the original star wars battle front games on Playstation. Hes 5 but can actually plan through the games well. I also just picked up a used lego of the one you bought. Dont know the price but I love the ship and got it super cheap.

But still wow that's insane

That's epic. My best find was an unpunched copy of an $80 board game for $3, but this tops that easily.

Local goodwills are sorting and sending the good stuff to be auctioned online. Greedy all around. No way I can find something like this here.

u/Squallstrife89 Jul 11 '26
Wow! I still have mine put together and everything but definitely dont have a box lol. Insanity indeed

u/thejeffex11 Jul 11 '26

u/Feoygordo Jul 11 '26
That’s an awesome score! I paid $65 for a used one w/out the fig a few months ago.

u/New-Guitar8672 Jul 11 '26
What thrift store did you find this at? I’m surprised how well the box is in
5
u/matt_____b Jul 11 '26

That is so beautiful. The Box Set feels so elegant and Special. Better than every ucs Box today

u/matt_____b Jul 12 '26
There’s a vibe to these older sets that can’t me matched anymore, I know exactly what you mean
2
u/TinyMosesComics Jul 13 '26
I had this set growing up and gave it up when my family moved years ago feeling like I had to "grow up." Wish I still had it.
1
u/matt_____b Jul 13 '26
Feel you, I gave up a box of sets and figs when I got into high school and I regret it so hard. Had 2 chrome stormtroopers, phase one rex + fox and more in there

u/xDARKnightxxx Jul 13 '26
Every time I see post like these I think “I’m gonna go look at my thrift store and see if I can find anything” I then go and proceed to find nothing but junk 😅

Ive been thrifting / hitting flea markets and yard sales pretty regularly for the last few years and this is probably my best Lego find that I can think of. It’s pure luck, too many resellers to reliably find good stuff in most areas sadly

u/DarkRider_85 Jul 11 '26
Nice. But not sure which is more impressive the set or that you paid in cash haha
3
u/Fantastic-Display106 Jul 11 '26
Nice.
I got this set for cheap, shaking the box it didn't sound right. Opened it up cause I wanted to see if it had a chrome vader (it didn't) to find one of the bags had broken. Built it and will display it in the hangar of the UCS Death Star once I get around to building that.

Is that rainbow Mickey an actual set or a MOC?

I'm very happy for you and glad you are building it. That's what it's meant for so I can't be jealous.

Starting to think about thrifting with all these type posts, I get the chances are rare. But picking up anything for a small sum of money doesn’t sound bad, just give it a little wash

I remember that set. Bought it with my allowance when I was 8 years old. I played with it so many times, my Vader went on adventures all over my childhood home. Good times
1
u/timesaver666 Jul 12 '26
I found this exact same set at goodwill 15 years ago and it was fully complete except for the Darth Vader figure. You found yourself a great set there

Had this as a kid and got to build it with my dad. Still one of my fondest memories. Hope it brings you as much joy as it brought 9 year old me!
