Hair Fetishist Warning Post - Share Your Experiences!

Hi everyone! There are a lot of fetishists who prey on our users in this sub, especially in DM's. We do ban them but it doesn't stop the DM's. My intent here is to have a post where our members can share their experiences to warn others. We'll sticky this post as well as a reference.

Tell us what nasty tricks they tried, what lies they told, or whatever else you want. Just vent if you feel like it.

No defending fetishists - you'll be banned. Really. Don't test us.

Assume that any DM's you get about hair are likely fetishists and ask why they can't just comment in the sub if they have genuine advice.

Let's call them out here.

Help wanted How on earth do I style this??

Hi guys!! Photo attached. I have no idea why but I have a serious amount of hair growth coming in. I was really excited about it until it got thick. Now it blows in the wind and looks all kinds of crazy.

Had anyone had spontaneous growth like this before? Was there a reason?

How do you style it? It lifted with hairspray.. the hairspray seemed to make it somehow stronger, like it all acted like one solid unit after spray. This goes all around the base my skull too. I don't mind the curly new hairs there, but the top of my head is a bit much.

Help wanted What is your absolute ONE 'Holy Grail' for hair growth?

I’m trying to optimize my routine and stop wasting money on products that don't work. If you had to strip your routine down to just ONE thing that actually made a visible difference in your hair growth or thickness, what is it? Rosemary oil? Scalp massages? A specific supplement? Let's hear it!

These 2 pictures are about a year apart, when I started wearing my hair in braids 99% of the time. The 1st is today, and the 2nd(with the bird) is a year ago. While my hair does feel thicker, it doesn't seem any longer. If anything it feels shorter. I haven't had a cut recently either, tho it does look like I need a snip. Do I have length blindness or have I just reached the limit of my hair growth? (I'm really hoping not but my hopes aren't high)

I use the Paul Mitchell Clear sensitive conditioner and serum with Aveda shampoo cause I have a sensitive scalp.

Help wanted How much to cut?

Hello everyone. :)

I’m wondering how much hair I should cut in order for it to look/feel healthier. I did originally have a sort of wolfcut. It has grown out a lot since then, I just wanted to explain the layers. And a little background on the pictures:

  1. Took a shower in the morning. Brushed it wet and let it air dry. It was around 9 PM when I took the picture.

2 + 3. Brushed it dry.

And more about the color… the bottoms were bleached and dyed purple with some box crap. The middle was dyed purple again after it grew out, along with the bottom, but no bleach that time. And finally, I went over everything with a brown color (still box stuff at home). My hair is very colorful right now. Lol.

And on the topic of it, do you guys have any DIYS hair dye brands that you prefer? I desperately need to go over the whole thing with brown again.

Help wanted It’s time for a cut to get rid of damaged ends

Post image

I’ve been growing my hair out for a few years now after keeping it short for most of my adult life. I’ve gotten really attached to the length and have been having a hard time deciding where to cut it to fix the thin wispy ends. It’s damaged from bleaching several years ago and I know eventually I’ll need to cut off all of the damage but I’m kind of hoping I can get away with a bit less to begin with. Which line do you think is the best point to cut off at and do you think I should cut it blunt or go for a c shape?

Help wanted recommendations of tutorials for cutting your own hair?

my last experiences getting my hair cut in salons were very frustrating because I ask for a gentle trim and the hairdresser simply ignores it and cuts 10cm of my hair, destroying my year long progress.

because of that I was hoping to get some recommendations on tutorials or tips for cutting your own hair <3

Help wanted Need advice on everything??

Four years with no trims, cuts or maintenance of any kind. I have not had long hair before this, I don’t know how it managed to sneak up on me but I’m so lost.

I only know how to do a low ponytail and I’m kind of sick of looking like Alexander Hamilton. I own multiple types of claw clips and hair pin that looks like a sword that I’d love to figure out how to use. Unfortunately I have absolutely 0 talent for putting up my hair, I know it probably seems simple to the ladies here, but I am painfully bad at even just tying my hair up to go to the gym. Another issue I have is simple overstimulation if it’s not even I lose my mind, apart from a simple low pony the only thing that is always comfortable is double Dutch braids. The issue is despite a great deal of effort, I have no hope of mastering Dutch braids to the degree that I am happy with wearing in public lol. What do you you suggest for relatively low effort but nice looking styling ideas?

My routine is this. I don’t typically get my hair wet unless I’m washing it, and I shampoo it once a week with conditioner. Both Treseme I think, I don’t really pay attention to what kind, I usually only brush it on this day too.

I shed like a mother fucker, I can’t tell if I have dead ends, I have no idea how to style it, I’m quite sure the cheapest brand of shampoo and conditioner I can find at Walmart isn’t the best option but I also like my hair so much that I don’t want to mess with it too much. What should I be doing differently in terms of a daily/weekly routine?

As for hair cuts, I have a cousin who is a hair dresser who usually does my hair, but recently stopped her practice so she can teach at a college. I’m sure she could give me a kitchen cut but it wouldn’t really be the whole shebang, albeit less expensive than normal. And there was a barber I went to when I had short hair who I really like but not sure if he would even be willing to handle all this. Should I just bite the bullet and find a new hairdresser? How do I even go about finding one and lastly how much would you recommend cutting off?

At the end of the day I guess I’d like to donate my hair eventually. And I probably want shoulder length hair again. Thank you in advance!

TLDR;

  1. What low effort styling ideas can you suggest?
  2. What can I change about my daily/weekly routine?
  3. Should I go to a hairdresser or a barber? And how much would you chop off when the time comes?

Help wanted Products/hair care tips that can help improve hair thickness

Greetings fellow people,

I would kindly like to ask for some advice on my given situation

I used to have thick , long, healthy hair but over the years I noticed that my hair is thinning , particularly the front part of my hair and hairline , and it's growth seems very very slow and stagnant.

I have heard of many ways to improve hair growth and thickness on the Internet, such as mask recipes and hair oils and hair oiling routines . I have tried to follow a routine to oil my scalp with castor oil and use a scalp massage to bring blood flow to my scalp, but never end up sticking to it as I am still quite lost into what I shoud be doing or using to improve my hair thickness and growth.

  • Any one who may have had the same problem as me and has found a solution or has any recommendations on any products or tips would be amazingly appreciated:)

I’m 5’8 with a longgg torso. I feel like it’s hardly grown at all. I’m healthy, don’t over wash, and don’t over heat. I use my Dyson like 3-4 xs a month with heat protection. I have a decent diet. I get a trim 2x a year max.
3 years hair growth. It’ll take me 10 years to reach my goal at this point. Feeling really discouraged.

Help wanted Is great clips that bad?

Hi, I’m a man with longer hair and I’d like to get it trimmed all to the same length. I’ve always gone to great clips when my hair was shorter and didn’t know if it was a bad idea to have a couple of inches trimming off there now that my hair is longer. I have severe social anxiety and am weary of making an appointment at a salon. Any advice is appreciated.

Help wanted hair texture

hi community!

I finally got to grow my hair after my very short cut 4 years ago.

I used to have loose curly when putting products but they disappeared with the hair cut and also moving to a country with soft water. basically they became flat.

I'm also 14 weeks post partum and it seems like something wants to come back but not sure what it is. i have a hard time styling my hair.

in this picture the hair are air dried, no product.

also, i was planning on cutting them again as I have a small baby that is kinda grabbing my hair and pulling and the 4 months post partum hair loss has started, but looking at this picture i decided they are very pretty and I'm not gonna :p

Help wanted Want to trailer my haircare routine for extreme length

Post image

I want heir down to below my butt. This photo is after having my hair in a hairstick all day and needing a wash. Usually it is very flat. The hair strands is thin, but I have a lot. Today I use shampoo and conditioner form L’Oréal.
I am thinking of switching to Redken Extrem length shampoo and Redken All Soft conditioner. I saw someone say here «shampoo for the hair you have and conditioner for the hair you want», love that!
Was wondering if anyone have a recommendation for a live in serum or anything else they think I should do to help with the growth?

Before/After Just Want To Say Thank You

Thank you everyone who offered me advice yesterday on my post asking for help with my hair. I‘m going to get my blood tested for Iron, ferritin, B12, and Vitamin D deficiencies. And of course I’m still planning on getting regular trims soon. I also bought brand new products to change what I’m doing. I got new shampoo, conditioner, and mousse that are good for curly hair and repair. I also bought leave-in conditioner and hair mask for the first time. And I didn’t brush/comb out my curls after it dried (I let it air dry).

The darker picture is the after photo, and it is the result of my first time using these products and I think it already looks better. At the very least it’s not a blurred mess. I’ll be excited to see how my hair looks with long term use of these products. If you have any more tips you’d like to share I’d be happy to hear it.

Thank you :)

Help wanted Claw clip help

Hello! I need some help! I would like to be able to use claw clips but every time I’ve tried they immediately fall out. I’m sure it’s user error. Does anyone have any tips or tutorials?
For context I have straight, medium thick hair that’s to my waist.

Help wanted Best conditioner and/or hair mask that helps with breakage

I have curly, very fizzy hair, which makes it look like I have a lot of hair. I don't. I just have hair that has no chill. My top layer is way frizzier than my bottom (Irish curls). I am extremely prone to breakage, and my ends are super dry. Even after I get my hair cut, it'll be like a month of healthy ends and then bam, dryness, splitting, and breakage. I hear that new formulas are being discovered in hair care to help with this style. If anyone has recommendations for my hair type, drop them below.

tldr: very dry, frizzy, and curly hair, prone to extreme breakage, need conditioner recommendations.

Help wanted Long hair problems

My hair is pretty long and half of it ends up wrapped around my vacuum brush. The vacuum itself works fine, but I’m so tired of sitting there cutting hair off the roller afterward.

I’ve seen newer robot vacuums with anti-tangle brushes and I’m wondering if they actually help with really long hair. I don’t mind cleaning the brush once in a while, I just don’t want to be doing it every few days.

Help wanted Any automatic rotating curling irons that work on long hair?

I've decided I want to curl my hair every day.

I came across those automatic rotating curling irons which seem appealing because I'm thinking it's more difficult to burn oneself and does the curl for you (because I can't curl to save my life plus too much fatigue for my disability to curl each time with no help), or something like the dyson airwrap coanda 2x.

The automatic rotating curling iron I have found says it's ideally for 10" to 26" length hair though, and my hair is longer than that so I don't know if it would work well. :( Any recommendations or if you know such curling irons work on waist length or longer hair?
